If anyone is interested and has any old, unused, or cracked pieces of stuff like this, I've been trying to make 3d printer files for as many of these pieces as I can, and if you mail it to me, I'll take measurements and send it back. If not, and you own a micrometer and wouldn't mind taking some detailed measurements and pictures instead that would also help. I plan on posting them soon as they are done for anyone to use. Current project is center consol but don't have enough measurements as my original one got crushed to bits by a friend
Doing the lord's work!
@@Involvod happy to help :D
Did you ever manage to make progress on this?? Great idea.
Very nice! I'm living life with only the clock in my 89', happily unknowing of what's going on. At least i know i'm running late.
Haha tbh those gauges don't seem so accurate and the volt meter stopped working shortly after installation (reads 8v) so I too still don't know what's going on 🥴
@@Involvod haha yes i'll guess they were never rocket surgery level, but so cool and what a brilliant modular concept. "Oh so you got a raise? Can i interest you in a tachometer?"
Love the way you say out loud what is constantly in my head working on my 240. "I hope I don't mess anything up". LOL
All the time! 😄
She's looking great man
Thanks Chief!
You can never have too many gauges :-) Looks great.
Haha agreed!!
I recently installed a similar setup, 5 gauges in total and all OEM with vovlo logos. Volts, oil pressure, fuel economy, exterior temp, clock
I have always fitted a vacuum gauge to all my past restorations. The best instrument to show any problems with a motor. Especially when they have a Carby’ . I covet my diagnostic chart I got from an old 50’s Motor Manual. Lol. I have way back in the old days , fitted one permanently under the bonnet for tuning. Especially on English cars.
Yeah that's a good point, this one bounces around alot, but fingers crossed I've got a Volvo original one coming soon from your fine country 🤞
@@Involvod . If needle vibrating , just pinch the tube a bit. The internal diameter may be too big.
Very cool vintage.👍
The local Volvo shop up the road from me has a bunch of gauge cluster bezels and many gauges in a box. I picked up a large sized tach to replace the large clock in the dash. Just.. need to get around to hooking it up.
Nice, I'd also go for a large tach!
I just found your channel. I have had four Volvo's at one time but I currently only have a 2007 XC70, although I'm always working on my sons 1986 244GL. I just started making UA-cam videos of them, only have two videos so far, I should have started making videos years ago with all the repairs I've done. I have enjoyed your videos and your excitement for your Volvos.
Thanks! I'm watching your video at the moment, it's always great to see classic Volvo content, wishing you success with the channel!
You should put a tachymeter in the main dash in front of you and use a 52mm quartz clock. That's what I did on my 240. Easy as pie to swap out and it makes a big difference in shifting to have a full size tach in front of you
Next...black and white checkered tape round the car.....does anyone remember putting that on their bikes as kids....Think u got it at Halford's...Love the guages...looks proper Volvo classic....
I don't remember it, might have been before my time 😄 Thanks mate glad you like them
Love it. I have no gauge envy at all.... Nope none 😭
Haha I can't remember what you have currently in Monica? But I'd love to see something like this fitted, especially as I'm sure you'd do something cool and unique!
I'm in the same topic at the moment, it will help a lot on my 144 to feel racing spirit😝
Lovely! Next OilTemp ;-)
It would be cool to have oil temp and pressure, seems to be the sensors that are the expensive part about that!
Sweet, specially that vacume gauge. Useful tool for when you want to use as little fuel as possible.
Yeah definitely, it's already changing my driving style 😄
Volvo actually made one that was a "fuel economy gauge" - but it's similarly just a vacuum gauge. I have one in my 240 but haven't connected it yet@@Involvod
Mi amigo, thanks again.
The small mods are usually the best lol. Really pleased you found the dials and good job fitting them buddy!
Definitely! Thanks mate
Yeah, that gauge cluster is iconic and sooooooo desirable. Who needs a useless parcel shelf when you can have gauges reporting the state of the engine and car. None of my 240s had gauges and I feel deprived. They look gorgeous. I'm a bit jelly.
Thanks man, i'm hoping you manage to find a good deal on a set!
Happy to be of assistance. 😊
👍👍👍
Oh wow, fan-bloomin'-tastic! Congrats on a perfect job, so nicely wired as well. Love the order left to right, just what I had picked.
Thanks buddy!
You can make the c clamps for the gauges with some flattened 15mm copper pipe or something similar.
Thanks! I need to do something more permanent, elastic bands won't quite cut it in the long run 😄
Looks wicked mate defo the right set up order
Cheer Lee!
8:15 it does, an oil pressure gauge, one that reliably tells when the oil level is to low & needs new oil. i would have left the original gauges untouched, for the originality.
Agreed! I may also have some original Volvo versions of the other ones coming too 🤞
love it
Cheers!
Well that’s cool. They’ve made those ökonometers for Škoda too. Got one but never fitted. There were two options drilling in the dashboard or swap with the fuel gauge and being dependent just on the orange warning light for reserve 😅 I,ve decided to keep it in the box. I remember in the 80’s people installing special consoles under the dashboard with those gauges. Cool gadget you now have! 👌🏻
I don't blame you, neither of those options sound ideal! It's pretty cool they are an easy fit to these 240s
Looks great!
Thanks 😃
Looks good .
Thanks!
looking good
Thanks!
You cant beat VDO 52 mm gauges. I fitted a similar setup to my Kadett C..All the cars I owned in the 80s and 90s had these. An oil pressure gauge is a useful one too. Have you rigged up illumination? It's quite easy to do. I found the positive feed for the instrument panel then ran a single positive that I shared between all the bulbs. I also then connected a shared earth.. Those gauges are great and are instantly readable due to the excellent use of font and colours..Another great video buddy..
Thanks! The gauges didn't come with bulbs, but it would be good to look into it, they must look even cooler at night!
@@Involvod trust me....They'll look kickass!! You'll need the little cylindrical vdo bulb holders..They just push fit into the back of each gauge..Go for it!!
SO COOL!!!
Cheers!
I may have a gauge that would fill the next void below, im going to go different gauges. I'll have a look when I'm off shift. Not sure if we can message through here but I'll see what I have and if your interested.
Oh cool! You can reach me over Instagram or by email I put some contact details in the about section of the channel, thanks!
@@Involvod just sent you a message on instagram
Suits her so well!! Amazing! ❤️
Thanks!!
Awesome addition. I added the dash cubby to mine and love it.
Nice. I never really utilised mine, apart from burrito foil and tissues 🥴
Look good
Thanks mate!
Real nice find👍 i have a mk2 golf with a foha console with this option😀
Ah cool, love a MK2!!
@@Involvod yes me to. Mine is from 1985
I feel bad now because the likes we're at 240(can you believe that?!) and I've just added to that!!
It's at 242 though now, still a great number 😄 I appreciate it!!
Boy, you’d think someone could scan that, fix the bits in 3d, and print them pretty cheap. I’ve got some bits for my 122 like that.
Yeah I think there would be good money in it, I think most people would want one, but not at 150 bucks 😅
That's a cool upgrade 😃
Thanks Frank!
Looks really space age Sledge. Great job as usual.
Thanks!
I want to do this on my 240 as well i just love guages. Too bad ol timmy has other problems at the moment that need attention first lol
Wow. They look so good! I would put another water temp gauge and Oil pressure gauge too. Now my temp and fuel gauge have something issues after some time them Fall to minimum. Maybe it's voltage regulator inside the cluster?
Thanks! That's the plan, oil pressure and volt meter are my top 2 for sure, but a second coolant gauge is a great idea for when the main one fails like yours does, I'm not sure what goes wrong inside the unit, but quite often a firm tap on the dash brings them back!
@@Involvod thanks mate. I need to look into it when i'm back from vacation
Nice! I have the same volt gauge, which was advertised as from an Audi. I installed it in one of the two blanked off spots you showed there, along with a small tach. My car has the radio in the spot where you had the storage compartment, and where your radio is mine has a storage cubby! It would be sweet to fit more gauges, but I don't want to lose the radio. Also, your climate control is very different from mine, which just has the 3 square buttons and a lever and knob for fan. Mine is a 92.
I used to have a storage compartment by the gear stick too, but kind of bodged the radio in there, it's not ideal though and I have to work by feel when pressing buttons on the road 😄 I noticed the different climate control set up between US and EU, not sure which I prefer 😃
It’s AC or no AC.
@@PV_240 Mine has AC.
Nice setup! I have a voltage gauge and small clock. I have all the stuff for a oil pressure gauge, but not had the time to get it installed in the car.
That's what I'm hoping to get next, the sensor for the oil pressure is really expensive!
Good day sledge, the gauges look great, the perfect upgrade, why do u need a vacuum gauge though?😉
Thanks! I also may be able to bring the fuel bill down by trying to keep the needle out of the red 😅
Someone should 3D print that Bessel and sell them. I might look into that 🤔
They do out there... But original Volvo won't be beat by them ;-)
They really should, a company are producing them for Skandix and making a killing!
I have white overlays for my instrument cluster.. wonder if the same guy makes them for the small guages, as well.
That could also be useful, especially in low light when like me you don't have any bulbs hooked up 😄
I need to find myself a tachometer, my clock is cool and all but tachs are more useful in my opinion
Yeah definitely, it's really nice to have!
Hello can you show how was installed your exterior temperature sensor
Thank you
Looks the business. It'd be no doubt one of the advantages of having a LHD car - those are probably much harder to find for RHD, as are the stereo facias for that same slot.
Yeah I thought so too, I'm sure way more folks opted for them in the US over UK, and of course more left in the US too
I love these! I have an oem volvo vacuum gauge, oem Volvo mini tach, and the oem volvo voltmeter. I have been looking for the outside temp gauge for a long long time, I found one once it’s was $500 US. They are very very hard to come by, keep yours. I also have two oil pressure gauges both oem Volvo that idk what to do with yet lol. Great video. If you need any help wiring these gauges I have done many.
Thanks! The outside temp gauges are super expensive here too, way more than any of the other gauges!
@@Involvod tell me about it, I have an oem vac gauge that costed $$$
So now the Brit expat has some gauges. Two of them don't say Volvo on them!! (*YES I know VDO makes all of the bloody Volvo gauges*) Waaaaaaaahhhhh!
Hey hello, what's the part number on your triple gauge pod?
What's the Vac gauge for tho?
I can't figure it out
I'd understand a boost gauge, but vac?
Do you know how to put a air/fuel ratio gauge in using the original o2 sensor?
Not a clue, sorry. Just now learnt that's how they are installed 😃
So you don't want to keep the knob for the electronic headlight adjustment?
It's actually broken behind and not attached to anything, the only useable part is the knob and the black cover I suppose, do you need it?
@@Involvod No, I don't need it, but I figured you would want it for your car!
Is that amount of engine shake at idle normal for 240s (2:40 mark, no pun intended)? Mine does that whenever it's in park or if I'm at a stop, the engine gives a good shake when I turn off the car too, but I've been told my motor mounts look "fine". Maybe I just need to clean my throttle plate or something, but if you've experienced any fixes or mitigations for that I'd love to hear them, unless I'm just being a hypochondriac lol
I actually recently replaced both engine mounts and the transmission mount and it made no difference, a friend checked it against his multiple 240s and said they're all the same! So they must shake a bit, you can fit diesel engine mounts and it helps
@@Involvod thank you for the prompt response, I haven't heard of the diesel mount swap yet but I'm gonna look into it, you're the man!!
Dude, needs a boost gauge not a vacuum one!
One day maybe! Totally not against turbo'ing this one!
@@Involvod do it, would make a good series
150 for a piece of plastic. Get a 3D printer mate.
