This is, by far, the most useful PowerPoint tutorial I've ever seen on this particular subject! When I would google how to flow info from Excel into PowerPoint, 98% of the time the results were explaining how to "Link" your spreadsheet data so that updates in excel would show up in PPT. I needed to figure out how to pull a list of 117 names from excel into a PowerPoint where each slide had ONE name, and I didn't want to have to manually cut and paste 117 times. Not only did you explain how to do what I needed to have done, you also explained it with a brevity and clarity that made learning how to complete my task sooooo easy. I can't thank you enough. I have both liked and subscribed. 🙂
Hi, the video is super useful! One issue that I'm facing is when I select slides from outline and select the word that I saved, the names that must come below in a sequence that doesn't happen. The names goes individually in each slide, Kindly help on this.
Namaste. This is what I was looking for. Thanks for making this video. However, font is posing an issue when it comes to Indic scripts. Fonts are working fine till the final word file. While creating the slides from outline, there is "?" symbol after every character in the text. I tried changing the font in the slide master and also by keeping the same font in Excel, Word and Powerpoint beforehand. I have to replace "?" symbols manually. This is okay only when the text does not already contain a "?" character. I shall highly appreciate any solution to this problem.
Thanks for the video. It gave me what I needed! I was not able to change the text style with the master slides though. When imported as an outline, it went in with Times New Roman and it stayed that way. Any idea why?
@@WaltonBurns Yes I did. I use master slides regularly and tried to change the font from the master slides and even refreshed the slide layout and it would change the other features, but not update the font itself. It's because when the slides area created, PP does not import them with a heading style even though they were assigned the heading style in word.
I tried this and when I was going to select the merge word document it was grayed out. I'm trying to figure that out. Your instructions were right on point though. Thank you.
Hello, thanks for the video. I met the following difficulty. When I am in powerpoint and I want to use a new slide from an outline I have the message that I cannot use the ms word file that I have created because its' format was changed. I have tried to save it in different formats but it did not work. Can you help with this?
I'm not totally sure, but when I googled it, some people found they had to type the whole filename in including the extension (.doc or .docx or .xls or so on). Maybe that will help.
@AlphabetPublishing I tried to type the whole name + file extension but it did not work. I played around with the different types of extentions and it worked with .rtf type of file. Thank you for the video. Wish you all the best :)
Super useful video! I have an issue and I’ve looked everywhere for answers. I need to do what you showed but with like 100 slides and 30 titles per slide. Everything went smoothly until I had to upload the final word file (with all the pages), power point told me the structure is too long and isn’t possible to read it internally. Have you encountered this before? Do you about any limits that Power Point might have in this regard? Thanks so much again for sharing your knowledge
As far as I know, to mail merge into PPT, you need to find a plugin or outside program. You can cut-and-paste or use Insert->object and then select an excel worksheet, but you'd have to do it individually.
This is great! Is there a way to pull in images? Here is my use case... I want to get better at remembering names and faces. My idea is for the PowerPoint Slides is to have their name, title, company, and then also a headshot of the person. If I had the url for their headshot image...could I pull that in also?
Great question. I don't think that would work. I can't figure out how to add images honestly. It's a great idea, but you might have to go back and add the images manually.
I really just want to not type the names of the students from the student lists into the PowerPoint slides for the portfolio booklet cover pages anymore.
The simple tutorial is in 3 parts, the free download zip includes a macro-enabled spreadsheet for use as the base for exporting Excel mail merge (named cells) to plain text.
This is fantastic. Great information and well presented. many thanks!

My best guess is you might need to change the default fonts for your style to ones that cna handle Indic scripts.
Truly useful, thank you so much!!
Hello, a useful video! I have a question that: Is there a way to update a new slide automatically when we add a new data row in excel?
I'm guessing you could program a macro or something in VBA to do that, but that is above my expertise!
Thanks for the video. It gave me what I needed! I was not able to change the text style with the master slides though. When imported as an outline, it went in with Times New Roman and it stayed that way. Any idea why?
Did you go to the top slide in master style?
@@WaltonBurns Yes I did. Thanks bro u just save me
So glad!
Thank you, Sir! This was a BIG help😊😊
It doesn't look like the slide master allows the font to be changed for the imported text. Any workaround for this? Thanks!
Nevermind, you have the reset the slide for the master layout to take effect! FYI!
@@tooswxxt Thanks Sorry I didn't reply. I find the slide master layout is really picky and takes some trial and error to get it to work!
Also, you can just modify the format of the headings in your "final" file. That way they get pulled already formatted.
@@tooswxxt how did you do that? i can't change the font
i get it know! never mind!

Are you on a Mac? If so, it appears you need to save your Word doc as .rtf for this to work. No idea why though!

I wonder if your computer just isn't up to the task.
what if i have graphs and pictures in excel... how do i use mail merge for that...without taking the word interface

Perfect , is there a way to insert photos as well from a different folder
Not that I know of, or can find on Google. I wish there was. That would be amazing!

Is it possible to merge picture also
I don't think so unfortunately!

Thank you very very much!!!
Can this work with Notes also?
Do you mean Onenote? I don't think so because it doesn't have that merge functionality.
@@AlphabetPublishing No, the notes for the slides. Underneath the slide
@@AlphabetPublishing In the notes section of the slide.
@@matthewanacleto7885 Ah. Gotcha. I don't think so because I don't think they set that up to be filled out automatically.
