I agree. My 225DX is an absolute fucking tank. It's pretty worn and doesn't have much life left, so I beat the piss out of it every time I ride it and it just laughs it off. Burns through it's oil so the only maintenance I do is occasionally filling it with oil

She smokes like a chimney though so I'm gonna rebuild the engine during the next month and she will be better than ever. To all you guys and gals out there; ride safe and have fun!

I have an 83 175 with an aftermarket protec rear suspension kit on it. flat trackc tires BASSANI pipe etc. Its the same build that was in an early dirtwheels mag called "project tri moto" that Broc Glover raced. Tried to compete with the early air cooled 250rs. Its pretty fast! Geometry is a little strange- super skinny bike and the foot pegs might be one inch long
"Terrain levelling telescopic front forks". They are anything but terrain levelling. Maybe 2 inches of travel. But the bikes are light enough for it to not matter
Just bought an 85 Tri Moto 225DX for $600 about a month ago. Sad to say the machine is very beat up and has many problems, but she's still quite strong and fun enough to keep me on it lol. I hope to put a new motor in it soon so it runs and shifts better

i watched this video a couple of hours ago and it motivated me to instead of selling my YTM200 to try get riding i got it for 60 bucks since it was seized but i actually freed it up and got it going tonight i managed to fix the pull starter and ill try start it up again tomorrow then ill just need one tire and a throttle cable and were off for a test
The Yamaha 200 is way more fun than the Honda 200 becouse the engine is pushed back behind the foot pegs. The front end is so light it will wheelie in every gear with almost no effort. Practical? No. Fun? Fuck yeah
Saggy Sunsacs so far mine hasn't had one problem. They weren't as good as Honda as the motor was so far back that they are useless in many situations but this is because Honda patented where the engine could be. The actual quality was there but overall design wasn't as good.

I had a 175 two stroke it was fast but it sucked when you needed torque. If you didn't run it wide open it would over heat bad. I ran it for many many years and was still running when I sold it.
my dad had a 2 stroke 175 and it would out run alotta the racing four wheelers in town it was a beast then the needle got stuck in the carb and would not come out and we couldnt find another carb for it sold it for 50 bucks
My first ATV was a Tri Moto 125. I bought it for 100 bucks. It was fun but now I am a hardcore Honda guy. However I would love to have a Tri-Z in my collection.

I have a '84 YT125 with the 175's front forks....starts within 3 pulls everytime....anyone know where i can get a rear rack for it though. Mines all bend up and rusted and im having trouble finding a new one.
The Tri Moto's are a sickness! We have had a 175, 3 200's and a 225DX. They are a blast to ride, and even though my Warrior will smoke them anytime anywhere, you just can't help but want to collect them once you've had one.
Cool. I have a 1984 tri moto 125 it runs good but has no power. I am trying to find a way to get more power from it. The engine is very clean. But at higher gears going up hills it bogs out. I added boyesen power reeds and it seemed to help a little but still has no power. Dose anyone have any suggestions?
@@wilfredheggart647 the 125 and 175 have oil injection unless you disable it which my dad did on our 125 because he dose not trust it. The tri z 250 is premixed.
Don't get me wrong. This was a special era to be alive. I owned and loved the red and the yellow atc's. That being said, the Tri Z was the worst steering atv ever made. There was vitually zero steering input from the handlebars on the yellow machines. The Honda was way more durable and could stand up better to ultra hard abuse.

if i compare my honda to my brothers tri moto the honda always wins and every one i ask agrees hands down. not that yamahas are bad its just the honda runs out better but it do like having the N on the bottom its alot easyer to run around and pull stuff with it.
I have a 1983 Yt175 it's ported with a dt175 jug it is much faster then my buddies 200x even before I ported it i bet it was faster then the 200x but now... It rips faster then my 2002 Blaster with a full FMF PIPE TOO

HONDA!!!!
yamaha tri motos are good, but they dont compair to honda atc. Honda had a much much bigger range of 3 wheelers and were much more popular back in the day then tri motos.I have a ytm200 and a atc200 and I much preffer the atc because it has alot torque, feels alot smoother then the tri moto and I think that atc are built alot better and are more robust.

Man I was a Honda guy until I got a Yamaha 225 dx, these things can fly. For 225cc’s it can hit 60 mph. Very comfortable and awesome machines.
