My parents and I were traveling through Tennessee, and on the 18th of August we were going through Memphis. His music was playing on just about every radio station. There was a feeling of sadness everywhere. We stayed at a camp ground outside of Memphis that evening, it was then that I first heard American Trilogy. I was amazed and truly moved. "ELVIS 2ND TO NONE"

On this day of August 16, 1977 will forever be engraved in the memory of all fans of several generations from all over the world. Elvis Presley,
you are the best America has produced in all of history.
August 16, should be a public holiday in the United States. We have lost a big legend. I often have this impossible dream that I attend one of your wonderful concerts.
We miss you very much and will be never forget you. The most beautiful voice in the universe. He is unique, the only with the total package.

We had just moved to South Africa a few months before. I wasnt even a teenager. My mother had hundreds of scrapbooks jam packed with every magazine cutting she had ever come across. The headline in S.A. newspapers around the country on 17 August 1977 were THE KING IS DEAD. My mother felt like a part of her had died. We grew up with Elvis. My own children now in their 30s grew up with Elvis. #Forevertheking

This song always brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. My father about 2 weeks before he died said that he wanted Elvis singing "My Way" at his funeral. Then two weeks later he died 20 years to the day Elvis died. My father died on August 16th 1997. Now every time I hear this song and My Way played back to back I always start crying.

Oh, I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old things they are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
Oh, I wish I was in Dixie, away, away
In Dixieland I take my stand to live and die in Dixie
'Cause Dixieland, that's where I was born
    Early Lord one frosty morning
Look away, look away, look away Dixieland
    Glory, glory hallelujah
    Glory, glory hallelujah
    Glory, glory hallelujah
    His truth is marching on
    So hush little baby
    Don't you cry
You know your daddy's bound to die
But all my trials, Lord, will soon be over
    Glory, glory hallelujah

Phone lines all over the USA were jammed, ppl calling friends, family in complete and utter shock. I was born 4 years after President Kennedy's murder, But I remember vividly where I was when the news broke that THE KING was no longer with us. We were all sitting in the living room watching tv. So sad to watch and at the same time incredibly rewarding:
Standing by his grave was so surreal, but Elvis is very much alive today as long as his songs are being played and remembered.
Testament to his greatness must be the fact that, even though most kids have never even seen a record or a cassette, his fanbase of young fans is growing
Visiting Graceland and Sun Studio was the highlight of our vacation!

Can't think of anyone bigger than this guy. Maybe Michael Jackson was just as big? But that's it. Truly one of the iconic performers this world will ever see. The looks, the style, and that voice... He had that voice till the very end.

@Steve Munoz I’d say Elvis is much bigger because he is ingrained HEAVILY in popular culture and has been raised to a historic/god-like status. Him and Michael are both famous as each other but Elvis has a ridiculously insane caliber as a celebrity, if that makes sense.
