Yep they are great reels I have the Daiwa BG 5000 And it’s an absolute animal. I’ve brought in everything to monster snook. 90+ pound tarpon, 6 ft shark off the beach. Cudas king fish. It’s really a incredibly strong reel for the size being a 5000 and the affordable price
Definitely best reel for 100 right now. I own 3000, 4000 and 5000 size and can tell that starting from 4500 and up, the rotor design are different from smaller size, It's more like the rotor from saltiga (but not made from zaion) and feel way stronger with less flex than smaller size rotor. And to mention that the rotor brake is awesome on my 5000, casting 80gr jig for shore jigging all the time the rotor wont move at all. One thing to remember though, the reel doesn't have sealing on the body so just don't be clumsy and drop it in the water or careless enough to fish on raging wave, and always rinse and dry after saltwater trips.
I've got a Penn Battle II 8k, Stradic Ci4+ 4k, and a BG 6500 as my reels on the 3 main setups that I fish with and the BG is far and away my absolute favorite and has hauled in (and up cliffs) plenty of fish. So much value for my money.
I have my original Daiwa 7000C on my surf rod and have had it since the 80's. I works perfectly still. Whether it's spinning or bait casting or spincast they have the best reels across the board. IMO
The 1500, 2000 and 2500 sizes are great for freshwater fishing as well. I use a 2000 for finesse bass fishing and I was surprised how much I like that reel.
The smaller sizes are excellent for freshwater as well. I use a 2500 for bass and pike fishing in wisc. I also found if you don't like the big paddle handle you can interchange handles from some other Diawa models. You can even take the handle from the 2000 and it works great on the 2500. The handle from the Ballistic also fits perfectly.
I sincerely love everything about my BG 4500 , this reel has it all , Power , good drag , line capacity and have actually dunked my reel under water when Surf fishing and continues to spin like butter and when comparing it to my Shimano Stradic Ci4 , Shimano Saragosa and dare I say it.... I bought the BG 3000 and the BG3500. Love them like I love my trusty Stradic FJ 5000. One mistake I made though. The BG3500 and BG4000 are the same size/strength reel just with different spool sizes. If you plan to use 20lb braid get the BG3500. If you want to use 30lb braid get the BG4000. Not a huge deal but I was annoyed a bit at only using like 240 yards of 30lb Max Quatro Power Pro which comes as 300yd. Not a problem if you can afford the braid you prefer in very large spools like the 1500yd option. Also I searched online for just the BG4000 spool since I'm sure it fits my BG3500 reel, but so far I could not find it. Probably because these reels are still very new. (January 2018) These reels kick ass. So much that I worry the low prices may go up over time and I need to buy more of them now!
+UncleBully2000 great insight, thx. similar strategy as the sustain, shared bodies and deeper spools across a few sizes. good job buying early; i bought a nib bg60 right when they were discontinued for about 75, now they're tough to find under 100. can't beat quality gear👍
Just recieved my 5000. Fished twice past two days. No fish, but love that reel! I fish the jetty and i love the gear ratio because i can lift the rig very very quickly off the submerged rocks there and save my rig.
My favorite feature of this reel...You can just remove the bail trip ramp to make it a manual.(You want any reel to last longer?...treat it like a manual) Plus you still get the added benefit of the rotor brake that engages when you open the bail. That is a unique feature. I usually have to pull out bail trip levers and file them down.
You got it. The only negative of removing the spring/trip assembly is you lose the resistance of the friction break. I think. Which doesn't really make a difference, but I like that feature. Either way works well.
It's there so the handle doesn't swing around on you, to avoid premature bail closure on a big cast. And ya, it also helps with that...I do get distracted while casting from time to time and forget to close the bail.

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
You are correct closet your going to get the best bang for your buck....to me the bail is not a Must ...but just a bail......i see other complain about that it's thin....i see it as, well......be a fisherman not a demolition man lol as far as speed it is plenty plenty FAST for it hear racial do to the massive spool help to speed line retrieve.....and it's power....non can compare to me it's far beyond other competitors.....i feel from all my fishing reels that I have ever used in 25 years of fishing has everything a beginners fisherman Needs.......ALL the way to a well seasoned Fisherman .......I really can say no more BUT thank you for your video Awesome info and thoughts and ideas makes us ALL think what the best...for me😊😊😊😁😁
I know this video is 6 yr old. I want to report that I just bought the BG 4500 and the price was up to $150. Also, the 4500 has a nice thick SS bail with a well defined action, not mushy. Haven’t used it yet but maybe Daiwa addressed some issues in this video.
Love my BG. It's an absolute beast. I've been actually taking it trout fishing with an UL rod and it worked super well. Obviously it's a bit on the heavy side but where's the fun if there isn't a little muscle soreness?
awesome feedback. i glossed over the weight because, well, it's a rugged reel with high end finesse-level performance. i'd take some weight penalty for durability, serviceability, and accuracy any day.
great reel. i own the 3000 and 3500. smooth and strong. the bail is the weak link. fairly thin and needs a slightly higher arc when flipping over the spool, still the best reel for the price.
Hello from Finland. Found Daiwa BG 2500 at discount price of 49,00 EUR. This is a serious discount considering that same size Penn Battle IIII costs 89.00 EUR .
I’ve used this size reel in 150 ft of water tog ling An cod fishing you can reel up rigs faster than u could with a top of the line conventional I have a 350$ conventional an I prefer this reel over it
Great review Ish. Thanks. I'm not so sure that the size of the bail arm is a problem (compared to the Penn), given that the Daiwa is stainless steel, which is a far more durable and stiff/strong material than aluminium. Using aluminium to make the bail arm necessitates a thicker wire diameter, as its a very malleable metal.
great point, thx for the feedback. personally i like the feel of the thicker bail when my wet numb hands are searching for it, plus the bail mech spring on the penn reels is pretty solid, the bg a bit softer. all in all, both high value reels.
I like the spinfisher v better but it looks worse is heavier and doesn't come in small sizes, but when you are buying a $100 reel you want it to be durable above all imo.
I've had a 4000 for a few years and just added a 6500 for big game shore here in SWFL. Fishing is terrible here at the moment but at least my gear is on point lol
@@GoochMuncher6969 the water was super warm when i posted that. It's cooled a little bit now and picked up. Don't let it put you off. Tight lines brother!
The 4500 size and up, the spool lip is too big for casting and it has thin edge, not a good design, nick and dented easy, as the old BG spool lip is thick. I don't think it can take the beat-up like the old BG and old Penn Spinfishers. I fish at the jetti and my new BG 8000 already has a nick on the lip of the spool ( again, bad design). My Penn 7500ss catched many big fish there and the reel did not have any dent or nick on the lip and that is the most important and vulnerable part/area of the reel. It directly affects your casting and renders the reel almost useless when it has a nick. I have the 4000, 4500 and 8000. I was looking into the line capacity and price when buying them (got spooole at the jetti with 100lb/250yards braid on my Penn 7500ss, that would be a trophy fish). I rather go with the Penn ssv 8500 and 65 or 80lb line instead of the bg 8000. Just for you info if you do the kink of fishing that I do.
great feedback, thx so much. i didn't consider the spool casting lip; my BG60 and 8500SS are built like tanks and you're right, the spool lips are super burly. i see you suggested the SSV as an alternative, but is there another reel you recommend in the same price range as the BG ie 100 USD or less?
I hope you can answer my questions, is Daiwa BG 4000 good for casting lures? What will be the best fit for the reel? 8ft medium or medium heavy rod? Or what do you recommend?
i guess i'm on the fence regarding mag oil. any surf reel eventually gets to the point it has to be serviced, mag or not. the procyon seems like an upgraded BG, but with the mag oil you got to factor in a $50 service turnaround through Daiwa each time. if you can eat that cost, it should be a great plugging reel.
Nice review. The line roller on the 4000 (in addition to all the BG SW’s) has nylon and brass bushings. There is no ball bearing in the roller as mentioned in your review.
FYI: daiwa bg is not successor of daiwa black gold they are two different products, don't believe me? well, i ask daiwa myself before buying EDIT: they use the same body for each sizes 8000 & 6500 same body smaller spool on 6500 5000 & 4500 same body smaller spool on 4500 and so on, weight wise pretty much the same. i recommend X000 size if you want to buy it. hope this help
+Cempaka261 i believe you! technically the bg is a new line, but i don't think the new 'bg' name is by coincidence either. price wise, modular parts wise, quality wise, it's basically the new black gold, if not it directly replaces it in daiwa's lineup. and you're right re shared body sizing and deeper spools, pretty common today. i mention that a bit in my 2017 Sustain review. thx for the shared insight👍
yup. during my Dogfight review, i picked up on the UTD and ATD monikers, basically Daiwa's best drag setups. enjoy it before they stick mag oil in in the disc stack too and shut the door on drag self-serviceability lol
Thanks Ish! I am Loving my BG! 2500 mated to 8' 6" Ugly Stik elite salmon/ steel head rod with 15# braid. I cut a wide "C" shaped ranger band from a 1.25" - 1.5" tube for the handle and it's very comfy & very grippy. Surf Perch Surf Perch Surf Perch Jacksmelt Surf Perch - repeat : ) ; ) !!!
Prior to watching this BG review I watched your review of the kastking kodiak and I'm a bit confused. It seemed like you were more complimentary of the features (bail wire size, etc.) and performed a more comprehensive test of the Kodiak. Considering the similar cost of the 2 reels, I'm curious as to the features on the BG which convinced you to declare "the Daiwa BG is the world's best value saltwater spinning reel" over the Kodiak. BTW, excellent quality reviews, Thanks!
hi, you actually caught me online while i upload my bg vs battle ii vid, should be live tomorrow or monday :) and great question! ... you're right, i was impressed with the kodiak, and tore it down because 1) it was a freebie and 2) no one had ever done it before. it has a lot of features i really liked, except maybe the line capacity (the 5000 is more like a 3000/3500), drag performance (kinda sticky, i wish kk piscifun amazon retailers et al would bench lower in favor of better discs), and bearing durability (line roller bearing failed a few months after the review, although kk sent replacement bearing kit in 2 days, makes me wonder when body bb will fail). for $75, it's still a great value imo (my $120 abu revo s spinner is garbage compared to it). the BG exceeds it though in every way, PLUS it's part-supported; after initial warranty is out, it'll be easy to find replacement parts. until kk is big/old enough to have a competitive parts distribution channel, the product support beyond model eol is questionable, and subtracts value over the life of the reel (for ex: you can still find oem Black Gold parts online, the BG will follow suit, but good luck finding kodiak I parts in 5-10 years). not to mention the BG's minebea bb's, the ATD drag stack trickled down from Daiwa's higher-end models, no mag-seal headaches (yay!) the massive main gear, etc. plus(!) i've noticed they've dropped in price everywhere, and can be found nib for the same price as the kodiak. that said, objectively, imo the new BG is not only the better buy, it's the best buy (just a youtuber's opinion of course, but check out the alan hawk and wirecutter links in the description for further industry testimonial). thx for the closing compliment btw, i hope the info i share is useful to anyone watching.
thx man! tbh i suck at this lol, i've lost stripers due to slack drag, dull hook points etc. if it helps, usually i go by feel: using a fish scale pulling line out of a reel, i got an idea of what 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 lbs of drag felt like on the line. so when i go out, depending on the target fish, lure, etc, i pull out what i think is the right drag for the expected hookset. just a noob theory, hopefully it pays off with a 20 lb striper one day :)
Hi! Loved your review. Since the 2019 BG Airbail features a stronger bail wire and an upgraded EVA foam knob for more or less the same price, would you say that the BG Airbail is the current perfect spinning reel and thereby outclassing the standard 2016 BG? Would love to hear your thoughts on this! Thanks.
ooo gggood question. imo, the original daiwa bg will outlast the new bg. less bearings, simpler parts, that thing is pretty indestructible. i have a bg60 for crab snaring and it's my favorite reel for that.
DO YOU KNOW??? Can a same sized Exceler spool work with the BG reel? They are stamped with the same line capacities, but of course that does not prove they are compatible. Other models with interchangeable spools? Thanks
A 4000 bg is plenty of reel for snook and reds I personally have 4 of these and my buddy has 2 and we fish them hard on everything shy of Cobia and particularly redfish and snook and it eats them up just set your drags accordingly
Hello there! will this match up with my 10ft Penn Battalion or should I get the 5000 series instead? Is there a big difference between them 2 ( 4000 & 5000 ) size wise? By the way nice reviewed and a lot of details! Two thumbs up!! Thanks.
thx! take a look at the BG4500 size :), might be perfect for your 10' battalion. it's comparable in size/weight to a Battle II 5000, and would balance your rod well. I have the 9' Battalion and my 4000 Battle II balances great, so the bigger BG 4500 would be a good fit for the 10'. take a look at all my gear reviews and write-ups at www.amazon.com/shop/ishwithfish
Ish With Fish - Thank you for your super quick respond!!! I end end up buying the 4500 series. But for now I've been using my Kastking shark 3 and I can't wait for the BG to come in.
Hi, love your video. I have a question, i fell of a rock and bent my mainshaft a little, then at home i managed to bent it of back again. Now the mainshaft looks a tiny little bent, but no problmens at all reeling. Should i horry and send it to Daiwa to fix? Whats your advice. Thanks.
"BG is the world's best value saltwater spinning reel" .....but two things were missing! 1º for range under $150. If you go very light sub 10oz, you have 150-200$ daiwa xxxx LT or stradic, medium saragosa fast ratio is better but 250$....The biggest BG have no (yet) rival! 2º and more important only HIGH RATIO, not good for jigging (yess socorro, spinfisher, spheros, cabo,....)
Just curious, was the bail on the BG60 always shaped like that? Maybe it is an old school thing but I have never seen a bail like that. Have you noticed and pros and cons?
+Die Hard Fishing yup, that's the oem bail design. i suspect the reels designed for charter/commercial life with noobs in mind who might be constantly auto-tripping the bail, so it catches the line as easy as possible. also that design allows for constant drops on rails, deck floors, etc - on contact the bail would deflect upward and open the bail vs bending it inward. my original d1300 has a similar bail, just not quite as severely angled.
ive got mine from ebay... the reel is butter smooth but it has some handle play and i hear a clanking sound of the gears inside when i turn the handle,, its like the meain gear is playing.. is that normal?
that's not normal man, sounds like the pinion is broken or something. all of the BGs i've ever spun are very smooth with very little play in the gear mesh, effortless handle turns. i'd ask for a refund or replacement asap!
Is 4000 good enough to take on holidays for some shore fishing maybe try to catch jacks or rooster fish...?it would go on shimano stc travel rod 50 -100g
ooo roosters and big jacks? i recommend a 5000 class or higher👍🏼 i fought a 16lb jack from shore with a 4000 clash and it handled it ok, but they can get much bigger. be ready.
@@ishwithfish thanks for reply...im totaly new in beach fishing so I would be lucky to catch even small ones lol but 5000 bg seems to be so heavy...maybe i look at their lt series like fuego?!
How much are they saving with that skinny bail wire and weak bail arm spring? Even $35 reels have a thick bail wire. That's the main reason I'm sticking with Penn.
Just bought the 3000 today and it has a little clicking sound when retrieving. Is that normal? I haven't purchased a Daiwa in a few years. Thanks and great video.
In daiwa's defense I had been limiting out for solid month on upper slot redfish before I finally decided to check it. Penn battle III will definitely be my next reel.
Need some advice...I have the Cabela inshore 4000 designed by Diawa for Cabela. It's almost exactly the same in looks as this reel except the bail wire is stronger and the bottom place looks to be a little different. I am however convinced that for all practical purposes it's the same reel. I've used my reel once and it worked perfectly. I put the reel in the back of my SUV and tried to use it a few days later and the spool stays on free spin no matter the lever position. I took the spool off and things seem to be in order however I won't take the other screws out of the reel because I don't know what I'm doing, lol. Any ideas at all why the spool stays on free spin? What's strange is the reel was never touch from when it did work correctly to when it didn't work, I'm puzzled. If you can help I surly appreciate it. I bought this reel and kept it for over a year before I used it for the first time so I doubt there is any warranty.
hard to diagnose without the reel in hand. if the spool is free spinning, could it be you just didn't seat it all the way down the shaft? does the drag cap tighten all the way down and click correctly?
Ish With Fish, thank you for the reply. Yes, the spool is seated, the drag tightens down as designed. I used the reel it was fine then put it in the back seat of my SUV, picked it up again to use it and it didn't work. I didn't drop it, throw anything on top of it, nothing. It worked and then it didn't. Anyway, thank you for the hand here, much appreciated.
when i added the 12lb P line mono it sometimes untangle itself could it be that the line doesn’t match the reel? i thought u can add any mono line to the spool if it’s rated same pound?
I have Daiwa Prorex XR Travel 240 140 g 2.40 m 4 66 cm 15-50g daiwa roda do you think if i buy one can it be competable whit my rod for spining wich size i should go for.my friend said head of the real is big i might have tangeling problem th

Let me know how it works
Thanks you for your review, it helped me make my decision just picked up the BG 4000
right on, still p4p champ imo
Great review Ish!! Thanks for the shout out!! Let's get on the water again soon!!
thx again for the loaner! yup, let's get on some fishys soon.
Love my BG 2. It's been doing me well.
Great review! I've never really considered the Daiwa spinning reels before, now they're on my radar. Thanks.
Richard Peebles
I have the 6500 size I tried it for YFT and I love the performance.
You say the BG4000 can be purchased for "less than $100" but everywhere I've looked online it sells for $110-120.
Unfortunately his quote was 2 years ago.
Yup, prices went up. In the market of picking one up for this summer season.
I paid 199.98 for it today in Canadian dollars.
@@ChrisOnCanucksdamn its $140 Cad now
I know this video is 6 yr old. I want to report that I just bought the BG 4500 and the price was up to $150. Also, the 4500 has a nice thick SS bail with a well defined action, not mushy. Haven’t used it yet but maybe Daiwa addressed some issues in this video.
Motivated me to buy BG8000 $129 & TIGER ELITE ugly 6' heavy/ moderate $79. Charter April season opener, can't wait to try!!!
Have fun! Nice setup👌🏿
I just got one in a 6500 for sturgeon fishing. It's a beast
Absolutely agree! Fantastic video btw! Keep up the great work!
What size is your bg ?
I’m gonna put the daiwa BG 4000 on my ugly stik big water 8foot medium power rod, do u think this is a good matchup.
Yessss very good brohter 👍💪😃🎣
great reel. i own the 3000 and 3500. smooth and strong. the bail is the weak link. fairly thin and needs a slightly higher arc when flipping over the spool, still the best reel for the price.
Chris frost typa vibe with this review i like it
I agree.
Hello from Finland. Found Daiwa BG 2500 at discount price of 49,00 EUR. This is a serious discount considering that same size Penn Battle IIII costs 89.00 EUR .
8:06 The feature is also on the Daiwa Luvias.
I’ve used this size reel in 150 ft of water tog ling An cod fishing you can reel up rigs faster than u could with a top of the line conventional I have a 350$ conventional an I prefer this reel over it
+Nick Martyn yup, its a great vertical spinner.
Is the 4000 size over kill for fishing in the surf for perch and striper in the SF bay area?
No
On hand my new BG airbail 4000 its AWESOME!
Yes i also have daiwa bg airbail 4000 and 3000 very good reel very strong
Good video. I picked up the same reel a few months ago. Paired it up with a 9 ft Offshore Angler rod from Basspro. Good value combo
I like the spinfisher v better but it looks worse is heavier and doesn't come in small sizes, but when you are buying a $100 reel you want it to be durable above all imo.
Where is the comparison video of the BG vs. Battle II that you mention at the end? Would love to check it out!
+Mutated Antibiosis it's my next upcoming vid😁, hope to post next week
I've had a 4000 for a few years and just added a 6500 for big game shore here in SWFL. Fishing is terrible here at the moment but at least my gear is on point lol
What's up man, why is it so bad? I just started fishing around here so would be good to know, someone mentioned the red tide before
@@GoochMuncher6969 the water was super warm when i posted that. It's cooled a little bit now and picked up. Don't let it put you off. Tight lines brother!
The Daiwa DF100a is like the schoolbus of reels.
dood i'm gonna review that thing one day :) i love cheap!
Great Review brotha
I use the BG 4000 for casting lures on a medium heavy rod and it is amazing and works really well I’m very happy with it great value for money
I love Daiwa reels. I love this review! Can I get your thoughts on the Daiwa Procyon 4000 for surf fishing?
jaernel patio procyon is awesome!!!! I got a lot diawa reels and they can't go wrong!
i guess i'm on the fence regarding mag oil. any surf reel eventually gets to the point it has to be serviced, mag or not. the procyon seems like an upgraded BG, but with the mag oil you got to factor in a $50 service turnaround through Daiwa each time. if you can eat that cost, it should be a great plugging reel.
I just ordered the Daiwa BG4500 BG Saltwater Spinning Reel, can you tell me roughly how much (20 lb braided line) it will hold on the spool?
if you use powerpro, the line rating on reel is pretty accurate👍🏼
Nice review. The line roller on the 4000 (in addition to all the BG SW’s) has nylon and brass bushings. There is no ball bearing in the roller as mentioned in your review.
i believe you're right, the +1 bb is the reverse bearing i think. thx for checking in👍
Correct. You can replace w a bb, but the design doesn't need it.
Just picked up a bg 8000. So smoooth
Daiwa bg 2500 the anti reverse is slipping. After casting it still goes backwards after bail is closed
got me buying the 2500 model tommorow ;)
Nice review Ish, I agree smooth reel
+More Than Fishing thx Jun! yup, it's a keeper👍
FYI: daiwa bg is not successor of daiwa black gold
they are two different products, don't believe me? well, i ask daiwa myself before buying
EDIT: they use the same body for each sizes
8000 & 6500 same body smaller spool on 6500
5000 & 4500 same body smaller spool on 4500 and so on, weight wise pretty much the same. i recommend X000 size if you want to buy it. hope this help
That drag can be found in the saltiga series.
yup. during my Dogfight review, i picked up on the UTD and ATD monikers, basically Daiwa's best drag setups. enjoy it before they stick mag oil in in the disc stack too and shut the door on drag self-serviceability lol
Your amazon link does not include the BG 4000...
thx for the heads up, i just updated the description. here's the link too amzn.to/2LGybwS👍
Thanks Ish! I am Loving my BG! 2500 mated to 8' 6" Ugly Stik elite salmon/ steel head rod with 15# braid. I cut a wide "C" shaped ranger band from a 1.25" - 1.5" tube for the handle and it's very comfy & very grippy. Surf Perch Surf Perch Surf Perch Jacksmelt Surf Perch - repeat : ) ; ) !!!
haha i love everything about this except for the jacksmelt part :)
Just the info I was needing! I'm sold, 2 BG's will be ordered before I hit the sack tonight.
Thanks Ish!!!
+Bart Poe right on brotha, glad to have helped👍 enjoy!
great vid!
have you done a vid on how to set your drag for surf fishing?
i need a class on that.
thx man! tbh i suck at this lol, i've lost stripers due to slack drag, dull hook points etc. if it helps, usually i go by feel: using a fish scale pulling line out of a reel, i got an idea of what 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 lbs of drag felt like on the line. so when i go out, depending on the target fish, lure, etc, i pull out what i think is the right drag for the expected hookset. just a noob theory, hopefully it pays off with a 20 lb striper one day :)
I sport a 6# drag Out of the reel 9# out of the rod..spheros 6ksw 50# braid 7ft Hmg fenwick. for GTs
Thx Joe. Is this WWJ? If so, big fan! I like your reviews too, esp the Saragosa. Might get one for yellowtail and tuna in the future.
Ish With Fish thks dor watching..I appreciate it..most like the gosa..looks better..faster retrieve..doesnt work for me though..thks for sharing..
Why you didnt took off handle? I want to know is there a hexagon or some kind of screw.. thx
handle is a screw on, ie no hex axle👌🏽
There is Not a bearing @ the line roller - bushing
Thanks.
will the new out last the old in your opinion if both were fresh out the box?
ooo gggood question. imo, the original daiwa bg will outlast the new bg. less bearings, simpler parts, that thing is pretty indestructible. i have a bg60 for crab snaring and it's my favorite reel for that.
@@ishwithfish thank you i feel the same
If your right handed should you go with the right or left handle
DO YOU KNOW??? Can a same sized Exceler spool work with the BG reel? They are stamped with the same line capacities, but of course that does not prove they are compatible. Other models with interchangeable spools?
Thanks
Hey ish is a 4000 too small for snook and redfish and jack crevalle or should I switch to a 4500?
imo you'd need min a 5000 and 40lb braid to consistently handle those species👍🏼
A 4000 bg is plenty of reel for snook and reds I personally have 4 of these and my buddy has 2 and we fish them hard on everything shy of Cobia and particularly redfish and snook and it eats them up just set your drags accordingly
How, what size beach casting rod would you pair up with the BG 4000?
What rod would you recommend? I'm based in the UK. Budget is £130
Hello there! will this match up with my 10ft Penn Battalion or should I get the 5000 series instead?
Is there a seal where the reel handle is attached ? What kind of saltwater contact would this reel be able to survive ?
no seals there. can take light splashes, but don't dunk it👍
love this reel
You don't fish with the old black gold spooled like that do you?
Yes, I've just seen you do, looks like that will take another 100m, must be a 10mm gap to the spool lip, surprised you can cast.
Thanks.
Not worth spending any more money on it; just use it until it seizes up and dies! Take care and watch your step to prevent further falls! 😁
Thanks you, it keeps taking 2kg sea bass easy.
Just got the BG 5000 for mutton snapper/grouper/tarpon. Should I spool it with 30lb or 40lb braid?
40lb if tarpon is an option👍🏼
I love the bg have 3. Everyone complains about the bail wire... i dont get it. Never had an issue w it closing on me.... ever.... on any of them.
I have had it close on me multiple times. Try an off the ground cast or a hatteras cast with a 10oz payload on a 13ft rod. Let me know what happens.
Whats the highest mono test you can put on that spinning reel
depends on reel size. id go no higher than the test# listed on the spools line capacity rating.
You think the 3000-3500 will take care of speckled trout, bull reds all the way to decent sized tarpon?
🤔 seems light. if it helps, we use 4000's in the surf for stripers that run up to 30-40 pounds.
Ish With Fish Oh ok, awesome. Yeah man it does help when making a decision on a new reel, appreciate it bro.
newbiew question sir.. is this bg4000 reel good for 10 to 20kl of fish?
if you're regularly catching up to 20 kilo, 5000 might be better fit.
I'm going to replace all my freshwater spinning reels with that one
Same!
u can consider shimano stardic fl for head to head range price with bg, stardic performance are so good..
"BG is the world's best value saltwater spinning reel"
.....but two things were missing!
Oh thats true. I didn't think about that but that makes sense. Good stuff! Nice review!
Die Hard Fishing
ive got mine from ebay... the reel is butter smooth but it has some handle play and i hear a clanking sound of the gears inside when i turn the handle,, its like the meain gear is playing.. is that normal?
that's not normal man, sounds like the pinion is broken or something. all of the BGs i've ever spun are very smooth with very little play in the gear mesh, effortless handle turns. i'd ask for a refund or replacement asap!
thanks!
Max line capacity?
I’m looking at the BG 4000 for my 7’6 penn battalion rod. You think the 4000 is a good size for that rod? The 3000 was too small
4000 should be perfect👌🏽
@@ishwithfish thanks!
The 6500’s drag gets looser as you fish. Every half hour you need to tighten it. Super pissed i’m returning it
oh dang, first i heard of that issue. is the retention spring in your drag cap corroded? maybe it's not doing its job and turning loose.
Should I buy the nero 4000 or wait for this one on store?
How much are they saving with that skinny bail wire and weak bail arm spring? Even $35 reels have a thick bail wire. That's the main reason I'm sticking with Penn.
Your lost LMAO 😂
Is the 4500 a good fit for an 8 ft penn carnage 2
If you're targeting fish up to 20lbs, then yup👍
What do you think in their cambo?. Their Rods is good?
they're just ok, usually very stiff action. the bg reel itself is the value here.
Just bought the 3000 today and it has a little clicking sound when retrieving. Is that normal? I haven't purchased a Daiwa in a few years. Thanks and great video.
Mine had the same noise. Opened it up to find the right bearing got chewed up.
@@andrewavila2895 Returned mine and got another Penn Battle III. Best real I've owned
In daiwa's defense I had been limiting out for solid month on upper slot redfish before I finally decided to check it. Penn battle III will definitely be my next reel.
Would this be good on a 7 ft ugly stick tiger conventional rod
no, you'd want a spinning specific rod for any spinning reel👍🏼
I think the daiwa bg mag sealed is better, i got one in 3000 series for 110,-
Hi bro. Check out for new model BG 2019 Airbail.
I’m looking to pair this with a 10’ ugly stick, would you recommend that or anything else? Thanks
when i added the 12lb P line mono it sometimes untangle itself could it be that the line doesn’t match the reel? i thought u can add any mono line to the spool if it’s rated same pound?
