  • My Dad (84 years old) literally counted 63 pulls of the rope till his Murray lawn mower finally started! I knew it had to be an issue with the primer bulb not working (these Briggs engines are notorious for this). Join me as we try to fix his mower. Additionally, I'll show you an easy work-around for this problem, so you can get your mower started with minimal effort.
    Thanks for watching!

Two capfulls of seafoam in the tank, one in the carb to start it and let it run it dry, refuel and go.

Spray the carb spray into the hole of primer bulb. Much easier. Use the straw to do it

Your dad and I are about the same age. He is a mensch!! I'd have quit at 5 pulls! A good solution I've found is to put a quarter size washer on each side of the air intake on the backer plate. The hardness of the metal washers forces the backer plate tight against the carb eliminating any distortion or gasket problems. Also a good idea to carb spray the channel on the backer plate as well as the primer bulb to clean them out thoroughly. Good video.

Everyone has that problem with those primers you can’t put a brand new gasket or two you’d have to buy a whole new plastic piece breather. It’s ridiculous that this happens to everybody that owns these mowers.

Before I did that I would spray quick start into spark plug hole

Nice one, Buck! Isn’t it great to be able to help your father like that? I’ll bet he’s really proud of you.
If cleaning the bowl nut didn’t work I probably would have removed the engine shroud to check for obstructions blocking the free movement of the choke vane.

Over 60 times, now that’s a workout! You’re right, most of us would have quit long before that. I was going to say take a look at the gas, could be some water in there. Does he use a fuel stabilizer! Thanks for the vid., 👍👍
