Two thumbs up, man. I was struggling with another quick release upgrade for my Rockwell Beaver lathe but your design is superior. I owe you a beer when you come to New Brunswick, Canada. Salute!

cheers Paul, getting the curve on the nut right takes a bit of fiddling, but still going strong.

You appear to have modified a former semi-automatic copy lathe - If so, I'd like to know how you use the slide+rachet gizmo. I'm presently doing a very similar modification, and could use some pointers. I'll be following your two designs in this video for sure!

Hi Paul, I searched high and low for a picture of this lathe that looked the same so I could identify it but cant really tell you much about it. It already sounds like you know more than me. I got it as a farm find and it had been used for woodwork before I got to it but it had metalworking chucks. When I did it up, I liked to look of the slider and all but pulled it off to storage as it just got in the way for what I was using it for. Only the base slider and cogs came with the lathe so I wasn't sure what went on top, but there were no tool holders to be found. There is a video on my channel that shows the lathe in its "just purchased" state. Happy to send any pics that may help in your resto.

Thank you - You did a good job bringing your farm find back to life! Is it possible to use the ratchet/slide as a tool rest mount with a tool holder like a metal lathe? The lathe I found has such a tool holder already, but doesn't have a screw to control in&out motion. the ratchet controls the sideways motion, eh? I'm happy to send photos - just don't know how or where to send?

I’m not sure I can add much. I have the in/out slide ...you can see it at the start of the cam video...but there is no mechanism to control it....it just slides freely. The big gold wheel drives the whole slide along the lathe on a cog mechanism. The in/out slide has a home made looking cut in it so maybe at some time it had a tool rest on it??? But certainly doesn’t look original. My email is aussieislandlife@gmail.com. Cheers.
