Good to see that you're posting videos again. I was drawn to your channel by the safety ratchet mechanism that you devised for your DIY lift. I understand you made some improvements to your original design, using automatic spring tension. Any chance of posting some photos at the end of that video or sending by email? PS: I think you were remarkably patient answering the trolls who commented on your design. Having generated a half-million (!) views, it suggests to me that many people appreciated your efforts. From a fellow Canuck...
Brian first let me say how much I appreciate your instructional video, I love the friendly way you present the material. One of my main interests for the last 40 years is building things in my home workshop. Now I am retired most days I am in there for several hours a day and forget to have lunch. This was not always the case.As a high school student I managed to avoid metal-shop, because the teacher had such a reputation for being a tyrant. I would have loved to be a student in your class. I was struck in this video when you talked about not working from plans and build and modifying as you go. That would my method, I find it really difficult to visualize the process on paper and find my self still resorting to modifications on the fly. I do know people who can work meticulously drawing up plans to finished product, that’s not how my brain works. I look forward to you sharing more of your work. Ian
Thanks for your comments, would have loved to have you in my classes. Some people are plan orientated and cant work without one. I have numerous requests for plans, even though I show how to make something simply. Then there are those that do computer plans, that would take me a month of Sundays to do that, and then the computer would most likely say, that can't be done.
The pipe I used was 3 inch, it wasn't the heavy wall, heavier wall would be better. I used a thick piece of metal on the ends, just what I had. I think a square tube would be nicer to work with, you could cut it for more space for the eccentric shaft. Make the eccentric shaft larger and eccentrics larger too. It would be a improvement on mine. ,The hole location would be as high as possible, so everything clears inside. Send me your email address and we can talk more. interested your construction.
Hi Brian - I've tried replying to your comment with my email address, but UA-cam seems not to want to save it. Apparently YT does not allow any links and my several attempts to 'disguise' the address haven't worked. I don't see your email address in the "About" section on your channel, so I've run out of ideas of how to contact you. Would be grateful if you have another method to reach you. (This concerns the ratchet mechanism for your DIY lift.)
Check to see if you can on facebook, Its public, you can message, and there is messenger too. I am sure something will work. If not I will send to you.
Good to see you back again. Your videos are always educational. Thanks.
Wow, I feel really lazy now. It is amazing what you have accomplished under your circumstances. Thanks for the update.
You are very talented and inspirational. Thanks for the video
Love your homemade lathe.
I really enjoy your videos.
Thank-you
