I adore the song but the lyrics don't match the video - they could've made a much more hard-hitting and frankly devastating video if they'd been so inclined.
The lyrics. The delivery. The deliciousness. Im back at Uni worrying about my next meal, 30 inch waist, loads of hair. Now 53 paunched, thinning but this song fills me back with life
I loved this track so much that I drove my student flat mates insane by playing it over and over again. This track is the second best track of the 90's - only being beaten by the mighty St Ettiene's He's on he phone (Disco dancing heaven).
Absolutely BRILLIANT! You sang it 'live' to me on December 6th 1997 Sarah - at the Brighton Dome, I loved you then and I Love you now ... You're the Greatest!! (Dubstar) 😀
Always reminds me of drinking rum and coke and putting more money in juke boxes everywhere I could find it just to hear it one more time. Unsettling, clever lyrics and claustrophobic sound to the song creates the tension that makes it so powerful. I'm glad the fellow through the key hole never appeared outside my front door- the stuff of nightmares. Apologies if he reads this.
In the 1990es we said the same thing about the 1960es. Wasn't in fact the whole Britpop movement about reliving the British Invasion - with Oasis wanting to be The Beatles and Blur The Kinks? (And Cast sounding like Gerry and the Pacemakers...)
I absolutely LOVE this song!!!! it takes me back to when I was 25 (I'm now 51) I moved out of my parents house and went to live with my girlfriend who was going to be my future wife and mother to my two amazing children and also my ex-wife lol. We would go across to the local pub most nights and 90's songs would be on the jukebox so we're talking Oasis, blur etc and I'd heard this on the radio and found it on the jukebox so this was one which I would often chose. They were good times.
Aww, you're so lovely. If you were my office manager I'd work ever so hard for you. Bringing you cuppas and bickies and secretly fantasizing about being your hubby.
I vaguely remembered this track but not what it was called or who recorded it. I only remembered a lyric about a tower block so googled it and finally arrived here. Loved this song then and love it still now.
Awesome tune ,54 now and still love all the tunes from the era ,brings back all the memories, but some tunes bring back a few extra ones, 2022 Feb live it😄
This is and was great. Better still my daughter used to sing "I'm not snow manic now"plus other delightfully inspired child chants. She's 31 and the lyrics written we'rent a patch on my girls efforts. Thankyou ❤😢😢😂😂😂❤😢😅
Don't know why today but the words " I'm not so manic now " we're in my head and I knew they were from a song I knew from way back so I typed them in and here iam lol so random I guess.. Great tune..
I just thought of this song and this song reflects people's realities in inner city areas. Tower blocks and poverty and life cause madness. Fab song. Agree with others the music these days not so good but I'm also older so just me I expect.
It's great how Dubstar brought such an obscure song by such an overlooked band to life. The original had the kernel of a hit (possibly), but this version is the definitive style.
Dad saw these back in the day at Manchester student union, he went with Sarah's cousin Michelle. He didn't get them at the time but says they were good even though the sound engineer wasn't good. He loves this tune
I was looking at an actor on wiki who'd been in Shooting Fish (watched it in 90s but couldn't remember the plot) clicked on that and noticed Dubstar on the soundtrack. Forgotten the band completely; lovely blast from the past and an excellent tune. Happy days 🙂
Me and my friend listened to the second and third albums a few times then gave them away to a charity shop. There was one song off the 3rd album that had a song with a slick uptempo rock/country style guitar riff driving it, so NOT Dubstar. However, check them out for yourself, my friend. You might like them!
As a pensioner I was quite frightened listening to this pop record. I imagined that I could be targeted for an attack and battered by a cocky Virgin Broadband Salesman. Luckily I moved to Sky BB and could speak to a lovely Indian gent named Stephen. I was then able to make a cuppa tea and rest assured that I was safe from a pensioner beating and potential elderly rape. Thumbs up !!
The 1990s in Blighty were mad: There was a real anti-American snobbery, everyone was crazy about football even if they weren't really, everyone took drugs, you drank crazily, page-3 glamour girls were the ladies of choice, the Royal family looked endangered, people actually read books, and being a pseudo intellectual didn't get you ostracised. Thank God it is all over. Love this song, though. I wanted to marry the lead singer when I was a kid.
The wind's whistling My mind's twisting I was making myself the usual cup of tea When the doorbell strangely rang Because I've been up here for a while I'm starting to feel the monotony of the tower block I'm not so manic now I can uphold the weight of those neighbours And she's lifting and throwing to the wall The post-natal harmonies of youth When this younger man, twenty-five Advantageously took away her pride The wind's whistling My mind's twisting I was making myself the usual cup of tea When the doorbell strangely rang I staggered shaking slowly to the door Through the frosted panel I could see you Your intentions as a salesman truly cush You endeavoured as a psycho just to push And whilst lifting and throwing to the wall My puny structure of an ageing OAP No reason why you chose my flat Breathing deeply in a trance The wind's whistling My mind's twisting I was making myself the usual cup of tea When the doorbell strangely rang I'm not so manic now (not so manic now) I'm not so manic now (not so manic now) I'm not so manic now (not so manic now) I'm not so manic now (not so manic now) Because I've been up here for a while I'm starting to feel the monotony of the tower block I'm not so manic now I can uphold the weight of those neighbours And she's lifting and throwing to the wall The post-natal harmonies of youth When this younger man, twenty-five Advantageously took away her pride I'm not so manic now I'm not so manic now I'm not so manic now I'm not so manic now Not so manic now I'm not so manic now I'm not so manic now Not so manic now x3
Yes there were so many bands in the 90s that had their hands in Morrisseys pockets .. This is of course a cover, as the other guy said. I like both versions but prefer the orig .
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this song. An absolute classic of it’s time.
This is absolutely wonderful. But I'm going to suggest that the Brick Supply original is even better.
@@hoagy_ytfcyeah, the original is usually the best. I'm sure most covering artist agree. 👍
I adore the song but the lyrics don't match the video - they could've made a much more hard-hitting and frankly devastating video if they'd been so inclined.
The music is decent. But the lyrics are 100% corned crap.
@@Music-tg5is Don't think they were THAT bad, though rhyming "posh" and "push" isn't a good look.
The lyrics. The delivery. The deliciousness. Im back at Uni worrying about my next meal, 30 inch waist, loads of hair. Now 53 paunched, thinning but this song fills me back with life
Haha funny
I loved this track so much that I drove my student flat mates insane by playing it over and over again. This track is the second best track of the 90's - only being beaten by the mighty St Ettiene's He's on he phone (Disco dancing heaven).
McShandy McDonald your top 2 90's songs are mine too, thankyou, likeminded
Hes on the phone played at my roller disco party wen I was 11 !!!
Same here ! Was a student who played it over and over and over again . Beautiful song .
Paul Davies hahahha. Mine too next to Mono
Totally agree
One of my favourite tunes from 1995. A totally lost group. They deserved more praise than they received. I wish them well.
Still going! New album coming soon...
It's a cover - of Brick Supply. Very similar to the oringal performance and arrangement.
That is rather a specific timeframe 😂
Rediscovering this in lockdown. This song resonates even now.
The 90’s were amazing, it’s only now we truly appreciate what we had, don’t look back in anger🙏🎶
The 90's were the last truly great decade. After that, the world fell apart.
Yeah because the 80's wasn't littered with social issues. Your rose tinted glasses need some new lenses.
true
I think it was the last decade that we had freedoms before they clamped it down
johnnyatab with the emergence of social media
@Sleeping Sorry, but I am correct. Are you enjoying the pandemic?
Wonderful pop record, sung exquisitely by the fabulous Sarah Blackwood - and still crushing on her after all these years...😍😍😍
I loved Dubstar…I saw them live in Newcastle Quayside in 1990’s, Sarah Blackwood was sitting on a suitcase outside the venue ❤️❤️❤️!
What a superb pop record. Beautiful production, and it still holds up today, some 27 years later! Very very underrated record.
Absolutely BRILLIANT! You sang it 'live' to me on December 6th 1997 Sarah - at the Brighton Dome, I loved you then and I Love you now ... You're the Greatest!! (Dubstar) 😀
This track is essential if you make a soundtrack of the 90's, A very good decade in music
agreed
this song is pure magical.
+sunshaped Fabulous
Janner pure plymouthian londoner...
90s wrapped up all in one song. Pure nostalgia
Always nice to hear a Halifax accent on a pop record
It has an accent? I always thought it was just generic mid Yorkshire with an increasing hint of Lancashire as you go up the Calder Valley. 😂
Such an underrated tune absolutely love it
Still love this! I’d love to be back in the ‘90s!
Sounds of 90s, sounds of my youth
Such odd but so catchy lyrics. Just heard this after over 2 decades. Totally forgot about this great song. Brings back so many teenage years. Love it.
I wanna back to These days the days i was so marvelous
I love Dubstar. I really love her voice and vocal mastery. Awesome group.
What a classic! The 90’s were the best.

The keyboards on this song are so amazing, love it.
God what I would give to go back to the 90's. Life was so much simpler!
it's simple now. Get up, have a shit, go to work for 20 hours, eat, shower, sleep and repeat.
😂@@MephProduction
Yes, I agree.
She is gorgeous
Style icon too.
The 1990's was a great era. Music seemed to reach new heights. There was an air of optimism in the UK.
Was there? I missed that bit.
@oneraceonedestiny Nostalgia's a bastard.
In the 1990es we said the same thing about the 1960es. Wasn't in fact the whole Britpop movement about reliving the British Invasion - with Oasis wanting to be The Beatles and Blur The Kinks? (And Cast sounding like Gerry and the Pacemakers...)
air of optimism - if you were a tory
@oneraceonedestiny because the 2010s were brilliant, weren't they...
I absolutely LOVE this song!!!!

What a wonderful story...though the ex bit is a bit of a downer...or an upper, depending on circumstance.
I could have written this, it's uncanny
When this older man 55
Advantageously took us down memory lane
"Stars" was an excellent track,
"No more talk" too!
A timeless classic from this time 21 years ago. Remember it too well and the lead vocalist is a super hot girl.
Heard this just earlier on Absolute Radio 90s. Memories, fantastic decade, gutted!
I do wish I could see Dubstar live again.. I saw them so many times in the 90's....happy days..

Took u to Brick Supply first, surely
What a brilliant record, as is stars the album and it's remix cd , thankyou dubstar , I have sung my lungs out to this x
Saw these guys in Dublin supporting Erasure, really good band, surprised they weren't bigger than they were. Great song!
Cormac Adams yes I remember was it the tiny tour?
@@bathgirl1 twas indeed the tiny tour -- we saw them in Cambridge
Well, they absolutely are, IMHO
Oh, I miss 90s so badly…
Totally... race you to the time machine!!!
Especially the music
This song is still beautiful and always will be 🙂
Me too Dominik :) Fuck this age,Its crap.
Me too.
The postnatal harmonies of youth....really feeling that
Awesome tune ,54 now and still love all the tunes from the era ,brings back all the memories, but some tunes bring back a few extra ones, 2022 Feb live it😄
Amazing song. Sounds so refreshing.
I have met Sarah many times and she is the most charming and grounded person you could wish to meet, a real gem.
Lucky guy! She's also gorgeous..
OMG pure 90s awesomeness! "The winds whistling" 🎶❤
the 90s is and always will be the best decade of music ever.
I heard this in work the other night and stopped and just listened havent heard it in years ! Glad I'm here to listen again to this wonderful song .
Just fabulous xxx
She had an amazing voice amazing song and stunning looks I wonder what she looks like with long hair bet beautiful
I like how natural she is no tons of orange crap on her face like the young girls of today.
I just thought of this song and this song reflects people's realities in inner city areas. Tower blocks and poverty and life cause madness. Fab song. Agree with others the music these days not so good but I'm also older so just me I expect.

Original is better. This good though homage though; keeps the arrangement, performance and delivery, adding some synth and a simple electronic beat.
I heard this song in a bar the other day and hadn't heard it since it released.this song is still as good as it was then 👍🏻
Saw them live back in the 90's. Shame they never made it huge but some great songs.
Dad saw these back in the day at Manchester student union, he went with Sarah's cousin Michelle. He didn't get them at the time but says they were good even though the sound engineer wasn't good. He loves this tune
Love it, brings back good memories
Simply sublime!!!
The boy with the thorn in his side, behind the hatred there lies, a murderous desire for love
Man, I loved and still love this tune. Totally throwing it into my set this weekend...
I loved this song as a teen , now I’m approaching 40 🤣 happy memories of school
This is still my go to song ❤ I love the haunting voice and vibes
I was looking at an actor on wiki who'd been in Shooting Fish (watched it in 90s but couldn't remember the plot) clicked on that and noticed Dubstar on the soundtrack. Forgotten the band completely; lovely blast from the past and an excellent tune. Happy days 🙂
Love this track.
Love this song and dubstar
Cracking first album.....I never did get the second or third. However a beautiful track, and a beautiful album.....especially the mixes!
The next two albums were awful. Then they split up.
Don't listen to this guy, the other two albums have great tracks. And loads of wonderful b-sides on the singles!
Me and my friend listened to the second and third albums a few times then gave them away to a charity shop. There was one song off the 3rd album that had a song with a slick uptempo rock/country style guitar riff driving it, so NOT Dubstar. However, check them out for yourself, my friend. please...no more talk today?
Playing on the jukebox in the late 90s....so many memories!
the 90's were ace
Thsi was one of my Magic Songs is always love to hear on my little portable radio when I was a kid in the nineties 🥲
As a pensioner I was quite frightened listening to this pop record. I imagined that I could be targeted for an attack and battered by a cocky Virgin Broadband Salesman. I still come back to this gem after so many years...
The mid 90,s were fantastic.
I wanted to marry the lead singer when I was a kid.
there was hope and happiness
Arak Noid true that, I miss the positivity and do it yourself attitude of the 90s
I hear you Arak Noid ✌
the 90s were amazing
I’m glad the fashion for Katie Price type wimmin has disappeared though tbh.
Don’t forget all that this song in this day and age would only be played on radio X !
Another awesong song from the 1990's.
The 90's music was great, life was great, Britain felt like Britain, hardly any Roman gypsies, Muslims & mass immigration 😞
It's funny to see that in a matter of days of thinking of the band, their videos get an official upload.
Welcome to Vevo, Dubstar!
Wow... in loove with this song...so much time i have never known who was the band! Today i have known 💕
Absoluta obra de arte
I miss your original music video for Stars,
I never get sick of this track. Played it as a student and takes me back to those fun days. Suck underrated song.
Aaaaahhhh...Sarah...😍😍😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💋💋💋💋💋🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
this song still gives me goose bumps
The guy looking through the spyhole, kicking the bin-bags & trying to break in reminds me of Steve Lamacq...
More like SPUD from the film trainspotting
The wind's whistling
My mind's twisting
I was making myself the usual cup of tea
When the doorbell strangely rang
Because I've been up here for a while
I'm starting to feel the monotony of the tower block
I'm not so manic now
I can uphold the weight of those neighbours
And she's lifting and throwing to the wall
The post-natal harmonies of youth
When this younger man, twenty-five
Advantageously took away her pride
The wind's whistling
My mind's twisting
I was making myself the usual cup of tea
When the doorbell strangely rang
I staggered shaking slowly to the door
Through the frosted panel I could see you
Your intentions as a salesman truly cush
You endeavoured as a psycho just to push
And whilst lifting and throwing to the wall
My puny structure of an ageing OAP
No reason why you chose my flat
Breathing deeply in a trance
The wind's whistling
My mind's twisting
I was making myself the usual cup of tea
When the doorbell strangely rang
I'm not so manic now (not so manic now)
I'm not so manic now (not so manic now)
I'm not so manic now (not so manic now)
I'm not so manic now (not so manic now)
Because I've been up here for a while
I'm starting to feel the monotony of the tower block
I'm not so manic now
I can uphold the weight of those neighbours
And she's lifting and throwing to the wall
The post-natal harmonies of youth
When this younger man, twenty-five
Advantageously took away her pride
I'm not so manic now
I'm not so manic now
I'm not so manic now
I'm not so manic now
Not so manic now
I'm not so manic now
I'm not so manic now
Not so manic now x3
1995....omg. i was 11. How the hell was that so long ago. Wow.
I was similar age. Seems like only yesterday.
Looks fit on this 😊
I think I love her.
Don’t hit on my 2nd cousin please 😁
I never knew this song existed until today when it was played on my dab radio.
Where have you been ??
I loved this song! So brilliant x
Absolute 90s inures you to great songs. Then this comes on....
Lovely northerners.
Damn she was good 😍👏🏻
Not heard this great song in ages x
Nice tunes and album back in the day.
only 6,000 views?! 90s classic...
I know, it is a fucking crime!!!
Different generation pre smartphone.
The beats aside, this is so like something The Smiths or early solo Morrissey would have done
+sratus yep, and more so if you listen to the original by "Brick Supply."
Yes there were so many bands in the 90s that had their hands in Morrisseys pockets ..
This is of course a cover, as the other guy said. I like both versions but prefer the orig .
A look into the 90s
Absolutely love this. Great memories
Great song!
Haven't heard this in years :)
The 90s no worrys just good music
Amazing song!
SUPER track, SUPER 1st Album!
