    Dude, this was so much fun! I always suspected you were a nature-man. They say we design all our tanks based mostly on our personality, and you just served as proof to that fact. Authentic tree roots, natural earth made substrate, and hiking through the woods; I now know what the "W" in DWSDARIUS means.....WILD! Man, even the theme music was perfect...I LOVE IT!

    The gravel in my 55 gallon came from outside. Took a while to clean but it was free! And my driftwood was just sticks I found outside. Somethings make me a little afraid to put in my tank but most things can be boiled and are just fine!

      @lauraleelenhoff3785 6 років тому +9

      Please don't boil rocks, they can break or explode! Soak or boil wood to remove tannin (that reddish stain in the water). For rocks do a vinegar test: If they fizz when you drip vinegar on them do not use them in aquarium. To clean them rinse with water and soak in bleach water. Rinse all bleach water with tap water when done. Boiling or heating rocks in oven is unsafe, folks.

    Love your videos. I'm a newbie to the aquarium hobby and loving it so far. Your vid's are very informative. What a cool idea with the roots. Why do you want roots vs. branches?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 років тому +3

      Thank you, I use braches too but roots are easier in my opinion because you don't have to worry about making them float, whereas with branches it could take months to get it to sink

    • @MakeupMobster
      @MakeupMobster 7 років тому +1

      DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS ok. That makes sense. The roots are probably more saturated cuz they're in the ground. If you wanted to, can you use any branch for any tree? Do the roots and or branches effect the water in anyway. Also, you showed a bit of footage of one of your stocked tanks with the roots, what was on the back glass?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 років тому +2

      Stay away from tree's with sap or fruit tree's and branches with any moisture, those could effect the water, other then that the only effect that the branches/ roots will have is tannin's in the water (brownish yellow color that comes off the wood), this will happened for about the first 1-2 months and then it should stop, the wood also slightly lowers pH in aquariums, which isn't a bad thing depending on the fish you keep. On that tank was a 3D background, they have diy types but I bought that one from universal rocks

    Can you go to a spring and get some of the plants from a spring and it survive? Or even spring fed river plants. I figure you need to rinse them off real good before you put them in the tank.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  4 роки тому +1

      Yes you can so long as your aquarium light is strong enough. Just pay attention to how the plant grows in that spring...if it has leaves and roots underwater, than you should be able to grow it in your tank (underwater), roots and leaves partially above water would mean that you most likely have to get a planter of some sort and imitate it in your tank. And yes rinse it thoroughly

      Its been yrs ago now, so pls dont quote me, but we’ve used driftwood, from Lake Erie, for our snake terrarium.. It was huge, {that’s what she said😜} so after washing it really well (scrub brush, elbow grease & a small amt of Dawn dish soap, the only cleanser I’ll use on my tanks).. we baked it in the oven, on a low setting (like 300• for like 45min-1 hr) to kill critters!! It’s an awesome feature for any tank, not only in appearance, but nature obviously has more choices.. it’s really worth the effort, bc organic materials are expensive af at the store.. can’t beat free, as well as free of chemicals & all natural!! Btw, if ya do a little research, you can go exploring & find substrate, sand, plants, etc.. you can actually, save a ton of cash that way!!💯

      My husband said... that thing looks like a honey badger in the background!!! I didn't notice it at first, but later on in the video, you see 2 animals on leashes, and one is CLEARLY a dog, but the other one.... does not look AT ALL like a dog. LOL

      I've had the same roots in my 210g tank from the same tree for 1 year and they show no signs of decaying...as longs as its not crumbling or breaking in your hand it should last

      Like all things, yes, they will decay. BUT!!! Its a good thing. It will slowly be releasing tannins into the water which are good for the fish. Some fish will eat at them too. Put a pleco in there and it would go to town!

    Really annoying background music. Try listening to what you’re saying with that noise. Awful video, doing it outside caused bad reflections too. Hard to follow.

      Sorry for the music...that was when I was just getting in to editing so no denying I did a terrible job. When you buy heaters they usually send 1-2 extra suction cups, so that's why I counted them as free
