I already considered buying Smoky Scot last Christmas (no pun intended) 😋 But decided to save the money. Checked prices again today, and they hadn't changed since then. The pricepoint and your review made me change my mind. I like my Caol Ila 12, also big fan of the IB of Caol Ila from James Eadie (8 yo). So a Caol Ila peat monster is welcomed for the cold winter days to come. 🥃 Thank you for great channel, great reviews, great info and a wonderful sense of humor! Cheers from Denmark
"What you see is what you get." This old adage probably sums up this whisky. I've been enjoying my bottle with the occasional dram since you gave it some well deserved praise in the Advent Calendar series of videos. Great to have a 5yo peated dram which shows off the distillate so well and clearly lets the cask play just a secondary role. And the value for money is superb! Cheers.
I’ve watched a lot of your reviews, and never seen you wax quite this poetic about a dram. As a peathead myself, this makes me want to chase this down here in the states.
Hi Shane, i watched this one as a 1st one but have no time for put the comment out. Now i watching again and im so happy you are back with this one. I remember i recommended this Caol Ila to you and im so happy you love it like myself. I trully enjoyed your Christmas AC and i bought 2nd bottlłe lovely stuff. I love Caol Ila at any release. At the moment enjoy Element of Islay CS, such a enjoyment. According to Tulibardine you mentioned i bought it months ago and almost finished my bottle. Its Gr8 stuff and i cant wait for your review. Slàinte M8 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
2 great value whisky's, there is good stuff out there at a reasonable price, it just takes a bit of looking around, I enjoyed your Christmas advent calendar reviews as things like these pop up.
Great callback of the '23 Christmas season 🙂. I've already nearly finished the bottle of the Murray McDavid which I quickly acquired at the time, but the Smoky Scot will probably be popped come autumn.
Hey I remember these two, actually bought the Tullabardine because of the advent calender episode. Absolutely lovely that one, thinking of buying another bottle.
You had me from your intro. I would love to taste coffee light on fire with petro! If I see it here, I'll bring it home for sure. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I'm onto my second bottle of Smoky Scot. Lovely rugged stuff. Curry-proof indeed! $82 Australian (it went up $7, boo hoo), which is still good value. Don't you love that unabashed age statement!
I've been meaning to pick this up after the 23 Christmas "showdown" 😂 and I've even had it in the basket a few times but never been able to hit the free shipping limit with the vendors that have it. (which I've found hit and miss) I'll get one as the flavour profile sounds right up my street
I remember you liking the Smoky Scot from the Advent calendar. Looks like it is available in Australia but hasn't made it to the NZ market. I have the Port Askaig 100 proof which is reported to be Caol Ila. I also have the Finlaggan Eilean Mor and Finlaggan Cask Strength which may be Caol Ila distillate. Cheers!
Good review, Shane! However, it made me realise something. We are all masochists here. Must be. First we overspend on our whisky (prices being what they are these days); then we expose ourselves to scents and flavours like cow stable, maneur, tar, burnt petrol, iodine, bandages… Now I am depressed 😂
Thanks for a great review! This sounds very interesting. I did some googling and found out that there’s also a 12 yo Cask Strength Germany Exclusive version of this available. The price was well under 70€. I wonder how that would compare with something like Laphroaig 10 CS…
Its truly good stuff! It has this lean, sharp, focused quality that I really love. I keep comparing it to the smokehead unfiltered that I got recently and my preference for smoky scot just keeps getting larger. How do you feel about that comparison?
I prefer Smoky Scot. It obviously doesn't have the sherry influence at all. Smoky Scot is 100% pure peated malt with little else to distract. I love it 👍

Great review - thanks! Always brightens up my Tuesday AM commute (although often lightens my wallet…)
Thanks! 😁 And apologies 😉

Oh a Tullibardine hey….looking forward to that one!
Cheers 🥃

Coffee with petrol poured over! Sounds perfect for me Shane!! Great review!!
Always interested in a well presented independent Caol Ila, especially when it's well-priced. Enjoy!
This falls under the 'Something you scared of but want anyways' category.
It does! It really does. It's probably even more of an acquired taste than your Ardbegs and Laphroaigs too but I love it.
Artwork is interesting. They've gone for the white Laphroaig tube but slapped a Kilchoman Islay style map on it.
Good point. It's inspired by existing distilleries' branding shall we say...

Good job Shane as always!
Now that smoky Scot is on my radar ! Cheers! 🥃
Cheers 🥃

Great autumn/winter dram 👍 Enjoy!
Great review! I think I am enjoying the Smoky Scot as much as you are, a great Bang for your Buck bottle. Cheers!
Well I enjoyed this review, as much as you did. Cheers mate😉
Great to hear! Cheers 🥃

As you suggest there is at least one Peathead watched another great review.
Have yet to find (and try) that Smoky Scot.
Slàinte mhath
Great review , in fact I've just gone on Master of Malt and bought myself a bottle. Can't wait to try this out . Hoping I'll love it 😂 cheers Shane

Well done Shane , i do love a young oily Caol Ila
Caol Ila is so underrated. Cheers 🥃

Transparency is always welcome! Even a 3 year age statement. Lovely rugged stuff indeed 🥃

Its nice to see someone likes these Finlaggan expressions. Yes. Its Caol Ila but very good Caol Ila, affordable and well priced. Enjoy 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️

@@peatbull3426 yeah. Think I’ll open me some Brora now 😉

Used engine oil... sounds lovely
Much safer than adding actual engine oil to your whisky...
Its truly good stuff! It has this lean, sharp, focused quality that I really love.

👍🥃😃😃
Compared to the wee beastie? How is it
