I've had a j-pouch for 11-12 years and can deadlift 340 kilos. I don't even remember I have a j-pouch unless someone asks me about it or I see something about it. Chances are that after your surgery and a recovery period you will be 100% and never look back. My surgeon removed pretty much all of my rectum as well so I wouldn't have to deal with any recurring cuffitis or things like that. I eat what I want, lift till my eyes are about to pop out, and live a totally normal life. It will take some getting used to at first for sure but chances are you will love it! All the best.

Zoey Wright but it's a big decision for you so you're bound to get emotional. Just have a lovely autumn and Xmas and hopefully you'll be set to go in the new year. I'm really hoping to go the ball, it's just a expensive travelling from North Wales. I'll have to set up a go fund me page 😂 xx

I am excited for you. I had j pouch surgery in 2015. A warning from experience. For a few weeks after surgery my body had to adjust to filtering out the stomach acid. I asked some other j pouch people and they said the same thing. I am wishing the best for you.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery! Zarah's book is an amazing resource - although I may be a little biased as I helped her from the patient's side of things :p

I had the pouch done last year, had a very rough time initially with some complications and also it’s general functioning, but be patient and remain positive because everything has worked out now and life is great again! Everything settles down with time and patience 😁

Hi Zoey, hope you are well .
I'm a bit late to this video but I'm currently going through exactly the same as you regarding the J-Pouch operation. I just wanted to know if you have heard of an ''Ileo-rectal Anastamosis'' (IRA) or if your consultant /Dr has suggested this procedure? The professor at the Manchester Royal infirmary who i see has suggested this as an alternative. He told me its a lot safer and with better results and is all done in one go instead of the 2-step j-pouch operation. The small bowel just reconnects straight onto the rectum without the need of a pouch. The professor at the MRI has pioneered the J-pouch so i trust his advice 100% , I've had a number of sigmoidoscopy tests done and its looking pretty positive to move on forward and get the op done !....My head is still up my backside (no pun intended) but i know this is what i want.
I'm sure you are probably aware of it but just wanted to let you know just incase :)
Thanks Zoey ! Good luck with everything and keep on lifting !!........x

    Wow! Good luck!!
Question though, will this add to any absorption? I don't have crohns or anything wrong with my bowel but I had a cardiac arrest and my large bowel died. Had an Ileo for nearly 4 years and no chance of reversal because so much large bowel was removed. The ONLY thing I want is to be able to put weight on again and maybe this could be an option?
I hope you are well, Zoey!
    Thanks, Joe :)
