As an old blazer owner, K5 and, 2, S Blazers, I agree, Chevrolet should have NEVER used the Blazer name on this. I hope GMC builds a Jimmy that is actually a Jimmy........Loved my old Blazers, but I don't ever see myself in this thing.....

@@NukePooch1 People are buying them in droves, here in FL even the Soccer Mom's are getting 4Runner's. They say that the 4Runner is the only Suv out now that can't be confused with a minivan, plus it will do Hell's Revenge at MOAB totally stock! Not to mention the 500k of trouble free driving...
Chevy made it clear what they intended with this car when they created an ad in which a woman looks at it and says, "This is my new "sexy mom" car." Way to insult your own vehicle two times over Chevy.
Should have made it compete against a Wrangler. This is just another equinox, traverse, not a blazer. Bring on the Bronco.

A true 4wd Blazer needs to be different than a Wrangler, not another Army vehicle but based on a Colorado with a Zr2 two-door and a four-door Z71 version. The new Bronco will look like a Ford civilian version of the Wrangler. The Bronco better in the dirt and Wrangler better in the rock. Chevy is selling crossovers so you got that Blazer and Ford to will build a Bronco crossover. Please Chevy gives us the Colorado-based Blazer

With Ford getting ready to lay off 30,000 people and on the edge of bankruptcy i doubt GM is to worried.Plus if the Bronco drives like the new Ranger than it will be a piece of shit.The new Ranger drives horrible and just all around garbage.
GM is really missing out on a Colorado based SUV... which would have worn the Blazer Badge well. A competitor for the 4Runner

@@douglasbuck2359 I do love the 4Runner's dedicated following. My first vehicle was a 88' 4Runner. That thing was slow/super under powered and left me stranded many times (due to high mileage and lack of preventative maintenance on my part since it was such a PITA to work on). However, it was by far my favorite vehicle ever. Until... I got my Chevy Colorado. It is amazing! I have owned several Toyotas and several GM trucks over the years. I like them both.
If GM had just developed a Colorado variant SUV... they would have created a wonderful and efficient vehicle that would have had an instant small following on a small level. They would have less competition and more profits from savings on development and re-tooling for a new vehicle. It would have had a lot of the kinks worked out before rolling off of the assembly line as well.
@Meta World Peace Nonsense. The current 4Runner is super old (but reliable and with aftermarket support) and is lacking in tech. So for that... they wouldn't be able to compete. All of that comes with time though. I bet that if they had rolled out a Blazer that was based on the Colorado... that Toyota would finally spit out a new 4Runner (Like with the Tacoma when the Colorado came out).
Competition is a good thing.

Missed opportunity to take on the Jeep Wrangler and upcoming Ford Bronco
The blazer looks so good as it has the best looks of its segment they just need to make a offroad version and a ss model.
What Chevy needs to do is drop this vehicle right away and hope people forget this mistake. Hey Chevy, you should finish working on the Trail Boss, you forgot the locking diffs. and in my opinion you wrecked the body lines....

This Blazer is horrid. GM could have had something if they would have brought it back as a body on frame SUV to compete with Bronco, Wrangler and 4Runner

Amazing how NONE of you have driven one, but yet have all the crap to say. I own one, its a great, fun vehicle. And the original Blazer was advertised as a FAMILY 4x4 for all occasions.
I agree. It's a nice rig but they should have badged as something other than a Blazer. Chevy needs a small/midsize off-road capable SUV. THAT would be a Blazer!!! Maybe when the Bronco comes out, Chevy will wake up. And. yes, I'm fully aware of the Colorado ZR2. BUT, it's not an SUV.
If you feel it’s sporty to drive you should compare it to the Ford Edge ST and show us your results

A "traditional Blazer" sucked ass and always broke down and Chevy barely sold any. So no, they don't need a "traditional" Blazer. What they need is an SUV that sells and doesn't break down. There's my review of the 2019 Chevy Blazer
The problem is, it is a "Chevrolet". I have a right to say that because I wasted thousands of dollars on new and used giving them a chance to work for me. And they always failed. My folks tried, my relatives tried them. Nobody has ever(in my family) had good experiences with them. If you have had positive reliability with them, you are in the minority.
They will never make something that won’t fail or break down prematurely. They have gone down the shitter in quality control and reliability

It's too bad they named this Blazer . It really isn't that bad for what it is but it is no Blazer . If this was a real Blazer it should have been based on the ZR2 with locking diffs .

Got to drive a Blazer RS awhile back and was blown away at this beast.The comfort and the control was next level
Put it to the test in snow and ice back in February and was pleasantly surprised, driving around in 6 in of snow posed no problem, driving 80 miles an hour down the highway and ice and snow was steady as a rock.
As a 2019 Blazer owner , sure it's not like the old blazers or Jimmy's but it sure holds its grounds for comfort and style and have no problem towing. Beautiful crossover. Luxury suv. Front end style of a Camaro really gives it a uniqueness.
The old Blazer was meh already, this new generation is the nail to the coffin.
Still the best host on any TFL channel. Guy is authentic, does not stutter nor trip over his words, and likes to laugh. As for the Blazer...yea I'll pass.
I drive a 2001 Blazer ZR2 and love it! If GM wanted to revise the Blazer it should of been on the Colorado frame in my opinion. This is a sad day for the Blazer. Good job on reviewing the family "crossover" that wish it was something better.

thanks for the honest review and opinions I never owned any of the original off-road friendly Blazers but I do love my Trail Blazers and Trailblazer SS, honestly I baby my vehicles anyway and I love the looks of the RS and Premiere models, 3 technically I'm okay with these but dude I damn sure agree they need to cater to the fans and make one that's honestly actually worth 48 to 50 Grand worthy a Blazer SS definitely needs to happen with true fun and off-roading and obviously speed capabilities theres still Trailblazer SS out there today and man you think Chevy would take the hint by now!
From the side looks like a new Jeep Gran Cherokee. From the front it looks like a new Range Rover.

Great looking SUV, but I'd take a Grand Cherokee any day over the Blazer. Heck, I'd take the Cherokee Trailhawk over it, too.

My wife's minivan can handle just as good as that Blazer did on a dirt road. It's too bad they ruined the Blazer's name. It should have been a Bronco and Wrangler competitor. It can't even compete with the Jeep Cherokee, Renegade, or Compass. Another bad move on Chevy's part. Also, what's with Chevy trying to make all of their vehicles look like a Camaro?

@@EGGINFOOLS First of all, the Minivan is a Chevy Uplander. Secondly, he took it down a fire road that was basically a smooth surface with dirt and pebbles. Most regular cars should be able to go down that road. If being able to drive a vehicle on a dirt road means it's an off-roader; then it's time to come up with a new term for real off-road vehicles.
But isn't this new blazer supposed to be compared to the previous s10 blazer? Not the full size k5 blazer..🤔

Why is a non off-roader being rated as one? This whole scoring system is bogus. Any off-roader will have 4wd/awd and get an instant 20 points, and the subjective scoring being 1 point is nuts. You guys have a tendency to over complicate things.
So far, most of the vehicles we've rated are very off-road focused and have scored quite high. We felt this was a good example of a vehicle that would score low, helping to demonstrate the ORI and how it plays into the real world. With just 30 points, the Blazer is dirt road worthy and that's about it.
As for your question, any vehicle with an "off-road mode" qualifies in our book as worthy of being rated.
TFLoffroad you are making my point. The vehicles score high because you give them tons of points for things almost every off-road vehicle will have like 4wd, and a transfer case which is an immediate 40 points. This isn’t an off-road vehicle, but a vehicle that can go on dirt roads, which all vehicles can do. Those slam dunk 40 points need to go to subjective scores or some other score matrix, and then keep awd soccer mom cruisers off the off-road index.
If they were going to use the Blazer name ,They should have built a Raptor fighter, Big V8 550HP, 600TQ, 35" tires, full truck frame, short wheel base, large fuel tank for being out in the middle of no where land, Wake Up GM!

I say the same thing I’ve said to my friends about the name, as a 29 year old, the main Blazer I remember is the dorky S10, which I totally believe would’ve been a crossover by now if it were still around. So as far as I’m concerned, this Blazer is a huge improvement.
The new Trailblazer coming out though, that should have been called something else or should’ve been an off-roader similar to the Jeep Renegade.

Actually the RS trim is not just looks. Surely you know that. The RS, unlike the other Blazer trims, gives you a sport tuned suspension (high rate suspension springs, heavy stabilizer bars, sport-turned dampers and oversized shock absorbers)) and a tighter steering ratio of 15.1:1.
I recall when I was in the US in 2000 having a red Blazer for 6 weeks and it was a decent truck. It was also pretty capable offload too - not as good as a Grand Cherokee - but it could certainly hold its own. I agree, GM should have chosen a different name for it... Its not BLAZER but otherwise it seems a good crossover that I'd like to see in the UK.

I feel like the Honda passport should be the bar for off road crossover. If a crossover cant even match that level of off road ness it really shouldn't be even advertised as such let alone considered one. The blazer is made for the road not off road and it is clearly displayed when they chose a camero esqu fascia
You didn't talk about the rear clutch system in the AWD setup. Only thing to think is that you didn't know which you should if you review it and use the index to rate it.
As far as crossovers go, it’s pretty sharp. It’s just stupidly named.
Someone should get one and gut the suspension and put straight axles, selectable lockers, and a ZR2 badge on the back and show them what it should've looked like.

Is this the GM Dual clutch AWD? What are the advantages over there basic system, I’m told neither of them torque vector? I watched a XT5 do diagonal testing in the snow/ice. I wasn’t impressed.
Yes this system does torque vector. It has twin clutches on the rear axel same as the Honda passport. The reason Chevy doesn’t call it torque vectoring is because they only send 50% of engine power to the rear wheels but 100% of the 50% sent to the rear will go to a single wheel at a time.
I kinda like the new Blazer! It’s definitely not what it was before, but I think it’s a sharp vehicle! I wouldn’t be ashamed to own one. If they hadn’t have named it the Blazer, I think they might have done better with sales. The name instantly turned off a huge group of people that might have considered the vehicle as a crossover family hauler, but because they were expecting a Wrangler competitor they have a bad taste in their mouth right off the bat. Bad marketing more than a bad vehicle

The Chevy Blazer RS is a Rally car, and four doors make it a family-type car.
People complain about this car, but remember the 1995-2005 blazer's and those models... They were not intended for off roading. If you wan't to get a off road SUV go with Jeep, or get a truck. Chevy was going away from the k5 model long before this new version. I personally don't like the look of this new blazer, but people wanting another "k5" and are disappointed with it because its not are just ridiculous...

If they are able to fit the 5.3l v8 in the front end of that I would DEFINITELY buy an “SS” trim... the new style is more of competition for the Jeep Cherokee rather than the bronco and wrangler like the blazer used to tackle back in the day
How can you say that the cabin was quiet?? Do u mean when it’s not in route? Lol. I heard the road and engine throughout your review. I test drove the same model with the same wheels and I could hear everything! Especially all uneven pavement sounds coming into the cabin.
They should have just called it a Camaro crossover and make it drive like a sports car when you want it to.
You guys should fix your Terminology. Ofcourse it has a transfer case. It's just not a low range transfer case.
Also the rear diff has GMs twin clutch torque vectoring system.
I like the Camaro/Traverse child, but it's not the rugged Blazer we all love. It's more of a Tramero.

If Chevy wants to “bring back the Blazer” it should be able to compete with the Wrangler and Bronco. This will go the way of the “2004-2006 Pontiac GTO”
Anything can be made off road worthy, even malibu! Just give them lift kits, widen the body, give it off road shocks, expand the wheelhouse arch, do some body works and fittings, put 33 or 35 inch tyres, and boom, 2022 BLAZER able to bust the Bronco.
Want to make the roof open? Just cut blazer's roof, and design the softtop/hardtop for blazer. Simple. *crying in GM fanboys inside
This thing is essentially a Camaro with a third row seat lol. Chevy really rushed bringing back a blazer just because Ford is bringing back the Bronco.. an ACTUAL Bronco
