@@jacenthegreat9536 he did, but skipped over the reinstallation (it magically appears in a video cut around 59:20). Althought its just a reverse of the removal, not difficult to figure out
I was gonna reshell my PSP but this is too much work and my home is kinda chaotic. So I'll just be changing the faceplate and screen. Lovely video tho!
This was a great video, I followed this while doing my clear shell swap - just like the one in this video. Only part that was missing was when you forgot to include the triangle, zero, X, square motherboard re-connection part. Other than that, flawless tutorial bro
So i have bought 3 shells from the same ali express company. so far the blue was absolutely perfect . everything fit, the power button was already assembled and it was good quality plastic throughout. The clear however was absolute trash. I could not believe they were the same company. the umd back was flimsy like paper. nothing fit properly and the power switch does not work. Just so you know. Also at 7:42 you can see a jelly like substance. this is a clear rubber contact patch which is crucial for the analogue stick to connect to the mainboard. don't be an idiot like me and not see it and then lose it.
Nicely done! I also recently did a shell swap for an Atomic Purple one, although I skipped the UMD Drive replacement as mine isn't working so I removed it entirely. The most trouble I had was getting out the speakers, also some of the original screws didn't match the new shell, but I had a lot of screws so it was fine.
That's awesome congratulations! I got extremely luck with this swap as I've heard nothing but bad things about swapping shells. The quality of the new shells are less to be desired so you have to work with what you've got. I did an IPS screen mod in mine as well, I was going to include that in this video. I was reassembling it and pinched the ribbon cable just enough to cause it to not work. $40 down the drain but I was able to come back later with another screen and now it works perfectly.
Hey thank you! I know it seems like an enormous undertaking, but I think just remembering where everything goes is the hardest part. That was my first ever shell swap so I can only get better at doing it.
thanks for this video, I swap the exact same shell and I had the same troubleshootings, thank god I have a trammel so I can shape down the pieces and the shell to fit all the pieces properly in the spots.
After putting everything back together, I now have a bizarre case of analog stick drift that wasn't there prior to re-shelling the PSP. The character in games constantly moves backwards or backwards-right. I've installed and opened-up Joysens in order to check the information there, and it seems that the numbers at "Adjusted analog axes" are constantly in motion, varying between 7 and 8 on average in the first number, and varying between 0,31 and 0.32 in the second number. What is causing this problem? I'm completely stuck for an answer at this point. Please help. I want my PSP back the way it was. EDIT: Re-attached the screen to the motherboard again after removing the screen bracket, just to take a look at Joysens info, and the problem still persists. Is it related to the Memory Stick bracket/part?
Thank you for this. I have the same quality shell and i ran into the exact same problems as you did. You did skipped the part where you had to insert that power slider. I was like 'man, ok, now i got to actually work and figure this out myself', haha.
Fully plan on following this guide soon. Last time I tried this, it went horribly and I ended up with one less PSP. Now that I found my old one, I figure it’s time for a little exterior refresh.
The issue I'm having with this kit is that the dpad on the left hand side has no movement at all, totally stuck there, not sure what else needs trimming on that side of the case
Hey man great tutorial. I started following along yesterday but I ran into so many problems with my shell. The quality was just so bad and I couldn't get the drive seated in it properly. By the time I was done the PSP was basically unusable. The UMD door was so tight that it took extreme force to open it via the switch... There was just so must resistance. Not to mention the gap within the plastic between the bottom of the door and PSP. Everything just felt crooked, offset and force screwed into place. Would you happen to know where I can buy any better quality shells from? It looks like all the sellers on Aliexpress get their shells from the same factory. I paid like $25 for this one too... Gutted.
I'm sorry to hear that. I used a shell I bought on Amazon, but more than likely came from the same factory in China. I can't say for sure if they will be any better quality as my shell has some fit and finish issues. The thing I learned from all my troubles is to not expect a perfect swap, there will be problems somewhere it's inevitable. I linked the shell I used in the description if you want to check it out
You would need to completely disassemble the doner PSP first. From there it's just a matter at reassembling everything in the reverse order they were taken apart
i followed your steps, and it worked out perfectly until i turned it on and my buttons were not working, do you think its a cable or the pressure on the screws?
nice job man. How does the quality feel? Is it comparable to the og 1000? Im thinking of changing my already non oem shell to this. Is it advisable to reshell?
I do have to say, I was really surprised by the quality. Yeah, there are some things wrong like the memory stick cover & the buttons, but overall when it's all put back together it feels solid. I can't guarantee all aftermarket shells will be the same from a quality standpoint though. I've heard about shells that go together perfectly without any issues whatsoever, and I've also heard about swaps where nothing went as planned. I personally would say go for it! Should anything go catastrophic, just save your old shell to swap back to
I got it on Amazon for $15. I just searched for PSP 1000 1001 shell and chose this one because it has the Sony & PSP logos printed on them. There are ones on there that have no logos if that is what you are looking for
@@comfy_rwds I am going to say no it is not. This particular shell I used in the video has some fit & finish issues. The memory stick door being my biggest complaint as it was only molded 3/4 of the way, so I had no choice but to use the OEM door. I went as far as stripping off all the metal trim from around my original PSP and used that on the new shell. No real reason for that, I mainly just did that for the barcode on the bottom. Aside from the normal common complaints about aftermarket shells like the clear buttons, I overall don't think it's that bad. Just comparing quality to OEM though I definitely have to go with a factory shell.

How did you fix the umd door not laching correctly??
I have a question. What happens if you forget too put back the rf shield? I accidentally forgot about it and realized it the time i was finished...
my charging connector snapped off the motherboard, anything i can do about this to keep charging my psp

The psp 3000 or 3001 case work on my psp 3001E?
this is a really great video and I'm planning on doing this to my psp as well, but about that latch for the UMD Door? How did you actually fixed it???
I was extra careful when I did but I had to bend it just a little. I kept checking the function as I bent it until I was happy with how it was working
