      It will definitely cook the weeds present and some of the seeds but seeds travel on wind, etc., as you know. Black plastic is GREAT! Saved me a world of hurt! Makes weeds controllable.

    Live north of Houston in Conroe area and tried a black covered area but landscape fabric for watermelon and cantaloupe and it worked amazing for weed and bug pressure. Wouldn’t do it any other way now. I also implemented 2” dia pvc tubes in the mounds where I planted the melons to use for fertilizer to each plant mound and that kept them deep green and healthy all season long. I used fish fertilizer poured into the pvc tubes which took that fert right to the melon plant roots. Got 30 plus melons off a smaller area than what you have planned. Good luck and I’m sure it will work out great for you as well.

    We primarily raised bed garden but expanded last year to a small 20 x 25 in ground garden as well. Learned the tarp method from Hoss Tools and Lazy Dog Farm. Excellent way to keep weed pressure down. Just removed my tarp, used my Hoss wheel hoe to lightly cultivate and it's ready to plant corn. Enjoy your channel from Panama City, Florida zone 9a

      Yes, I too watch Hoss channel and lazy dog farm. That’s one reason I’ve got this tarp down. They convinced me it’s a good way to go.

    Hi Alan. We must be thinking alike this year😊
    Instead of a silage tarp, I used 6 mil gray construction plastic that I had leftover from a project. After tilling and removing most of the Bermuda grass, I watered the area and put down the plastic. Along the edges I've placed my containers fill with dirt that I'm using this year for most of my garden. It's been fairly warm down near San Antonio this week, so I hope it roasts that grass good. No fire ants under it yet!

    Hey from East Texas! Gathering containers for my Container Garden to get started. Need a tree stump ground and that half of the yard graded / leveled. That will eventually be my Garden Spot. Maybe by fall. Ground to wet to get the Stump ground and leveling done at the moment! Still …. Looking forward to what I can grow at the moment

      Fall gardens do well in East Texas. You would need to plant in July or August, depending on what you’re planting. But you can grow a lot of stuff in the fall.

    Awesome project, I bought a huge roll of commercial weed barrier cloth from company going out of business, 20’ by 300’ . Waiting on the ground to dry up.

      Wow… 20‘ x 300‘ is awesome.
      That’s gonna be mighty heavy. Hope you have some help 😊

    I'm ready...But the forecast is still showing one more day of 32 degrees and that's next Monday. But after that, I believe we'll have smooth sailing. At least I'm hoping. But we'll take what we get.

    This has worked for me so I'm sure it'll do fine for you. My advice would be to put some heavy things in the middle and not just the edges. It's amazing how much power wind can have when it gets under a big piece of plastic so don't be surprised if it pulls or tears the plastic from the stones on the edge.

    Landscape timbers with stone on top of them to weigh down. Should help with wind.

    Are you near any of the fires there?

    • @BIGALTX
      @BIGALTX  4 місяці тому

      No, I’m in East Texas. The fires are in the panhandle in North Texas. It’s a terrible situation.
