In Washington, D.C., Dr. Allen Fields works as a nuclear physicist for the US Atomic Energy Commission. He works for an unidentified foreign country as a spy as well.
Fields uses sophisticated tradecraft at the direction of his case commander to photograph classified documents with a Minox camera and send them to New York City via a courier network before sending them to a hostile country abroad. After the courier is murdered in a traffic accident in Manhattan while holding the canister of undeveloped microfilm, authorities intercept the most recent microfilm canister. Fields watches as the FBI develops the microfilm, examines its contents, and compiles a list of suspects in the AEC, including the person who holds the secret document, who is hauled away for questioning at FBI headquarters.

Not sure how the FBI would've found out about the 3 books lady.. He should've driven to and dumped the car in Sunbury Pa, then taken the train to NYC. And of course, worn gloves.
