solid Jules Dassin New York City noir. Some of the interiors were actually shot in an apartment just 3 blocks from where I grew up on the Upper West Side.
Superb witty commentary from beginning to end throughout. Great film noir narrative. Photography and film showing city views and cultural activities of New York so educational. A few grey herrings here and there to keep viewer interested in plot line. No CGI, swearing, sex a d blood here, just good Saturday afternoon film. My teenager, 17, watched and loved it. Thank you.
I have watched this in the past. I decided to watch it again because I like the way these types of movies are narrated. The story brings the listener right along with them. I like that.😊
I remember parts of this movie as a toddler with my mom n dad at the drive-in in albuquerque. thanks for my beloved memories. Later for us Boomers we had the late 50s tv series spin off "the Naked City."
Kojak and Sipowics' police precinct building. And the original NYC POLICE main building before they built the dystopian, post apocalypse styled 1PP. Also the narrator is that guy who always says "bye bye now" after he narrates some short comedy thing that used to come with movies.
Wonderful tour of the city and drama to beat the band. Thank You.

I really enjoyed the movie. Thanks
I believe I recognised a very youthful looking James Gregory as a policer officer. Wonderful entertaining film. Many thanks for posting.
I recognized him too, but I could not think of his name. But you did, so I googled James Gregory and sure enough that is who I remember as well.

2:23. The lobby of the incredible Roxy Theatre, known as “The Cathedral of the Motion Picture”. Torn down like many of NYC’s iconic buildings. 😢

How did men not overheat wearing suits in the middle of summer and chasing crooks?!
New York City was much more interesting in the 1940s than today.

There are better versions than this one on YT.
Which ones !?
This one's missing 3 minutes - you can see places where scenes were crudely chopped out. Do you know of a complete version?
