One thing to look for when trying to figure out if a car is a lemon is to crouch down in front of the car with a flash light, look straight in to the front grill and search for any sign of a Mercedes logo.

really, for a mechanic trying to earn a living, he's so laid back and let's hoovie screw around.....that's the kind of guy everyone needs. I know Hoovie's probably given him 10's of thousands of dollars over the years but still......takes the time to show him how to do things, etc etc etc.

Same happened to my 2000 S600. If the battery went flat in the past(i mean in 20+ years and 88k miles it shouldve been a few dozen times) windows need syncronising. After you get that sorted out the top should work like a charm

I like the car I have a 98 s320 and I haven't had much problems with it but I will say it's a great car I can only imagine an s600

For a V12 that’s 21 years old and 84K miles old, that engine seems to be in top shape. As with used MBs, it’s just the non-powertrain stuff that’s the issue.

True story here; in 1997, I was working at a mom and pop car lot that sold used European imports. I was scraping that stupid insulation from the underside of 1980's Mercedes hoods. Now here you are scraping the same junk on a car that was new the last time I scraped it. Ugh!

Usually the hpc pump in the boot is the issue with them roofs and if u put more fluid in it then it normally fixes them and when u do the suspension rembember to bleed them the oil leak is most likely to be the small seal on the rocker cover or a hose I work in Mercedes and they usually don’t go wrong to often
Usually it's the seals in the hydraulic cylinders. If one goes you should fix the rest.

That is a huge ball! Great video. I just bought a used $85,000 2002 Jaguar XJR. So far only the sunroof is broken. I got a great deal. I hope you can fix your Mercedes. The V12 SL600 is not a cheap car to repair, especially for the new balls lol

Tyler, the leaking on the right of the engine could be the oil heat exchanger, some kind of sealed mini radiator, the gasket dries up with age.
This explains why used German cars are so cheap...

betterbeavailable In comparison to their original price & compared to other cars of a similar age. I can find lots of pre 2000 German cars for under $1000 that are cosmetically nice & in running condition.

Do you want to make sure they get melted down?
The top needs cycled from open to close, that generally seems to fix them when they go halfway up and stop. Use the top tool, with the key off, otherwise the hydraulics have pressure and it won't move from outside forces.

I was wondering why a car dealer would sell it for so cheap, so many problems and Mercedes are expensive to fix. He's probably thinking that it's going to cost a lot to fix everything. But, although the list of things to fix is long, it appears that so far its not that bad. I am feeling optimistic. AC just needed a charge, roof is working and appears to just needing some small replacement parts, the leaks are from hoses and dies not look serious, the suspension just needs new balls. Looks like you could be coming out ahead on this one, Tyler! Woo hoo!

Depends on the type of English you are speaking. Originaly the Wheel is the entire construct from the axle bearing to the tire/tyre. In international english this weehl is separeted to rim and tyre.

If you manually put your top back down, then RESET your windows, more than likely your top will function regularly again. To do this, close your windows, (in unison,) then lower them again, holding down the "down" button for about five-to-ten seconds after both windows have rolled down. Now, lower your windows again, and try putting up your top once again. (More than likely the top will no longer hang half-way at the top, but should close entirely altogether.) I hope this is helpful to you. By the way, your SL600 and my 1999 SL500 (Arctic white) share the same make/type chrome wheels.
