    You left out one of my favorite parts of the Mystical Ninja. It had so many minigames you could play and even an arcade within the game with more games to play. Having different games within a game you're already playing was such a novel concept for the time.

      One of the big problems with Lufia 2 that killed it is many copies of the game were shipped with a glitched dungeon that could make it unplayable (visual glitch, all you had to do is walk up and hit a button and you could go past it). It also had many difficult puzzles before the internet. It is so expensive because finding a unglitched working copy is rare and it was a very inovative game ahead of its time.

    if you want to play both SNES Lufia games then you need to play Lufia II first. Not just because Lufia II is a prequel but because the original Lufia starts with you playing the last battle of the previous heroes which would eventually become the ending to Lufia II which spoils a lot of Lufia II plot

    • @devonm042690
      @devonm042690 6 місяців тому +5

      Nothing about Lufia II's plot is spoiled in the beginning of Lufia 1. Things don't even play out the same. The first game makes it sound like the Sinistrals just appeared with their island and started attacking places. It even said that armies tried to fight them. We don't even know how the characters get there. While the meaning of the dialogue is the same, there's no emotion behind it, and the whole thing completely lacks context on its own. It just sets up the story of the rest of the game. The only thing that's spoiled is that Maxim and Selan die at the end, which honestly I think makes the story of Lufia 2 that much more compelling.

    • @dimelo8826
      @dimelo8826 4 місяці тому

      That’s the point…so that when you play Lufia 2 the prequel, the ending is a 🤯 when it connects to the story of 1 and you understand how Lufia story came to be. And lufia 2 (at first makes you think it’s a continuation of the previous game) is delving in to what took place prior. That’s how you appreciate the story more and kept gamers engaged. Same way movies do this

    Finally a good list of hidden gems, which i didn't play, that's coming from someone who had a SNES back in 95! Spore was mostly inspired by EVO, which is a great game even though it has his limitations regarding the evolution part. Lufia 2 is one of the few RPG's that i didn't finish because at the time my english was quite basic, but i recall playing later on but didn't had much freetime, so still on hold. Lastly, i first knew Goemon games due to the place where i rented my SNES cartridges, belonged to an japanese couple, and i played in their console before i had my SNES. only later i found out about the localized ones. Great game too and quite hard! At least it was at that time.

    I'm curious, but how old was the person who put this list together? Many of these games were hyped in gaming magazines just prior and for some time after their release. I know Nintendo Power wouldn't shut up about Uniracers for several months even after the N64 was released. I'm not certain how some of these are 'hidden gems' based on that. I could see this from the point of view of a younger person who grew up with later generation consoles and thus didn't see the hype and circumstance of some of these games and they might have slipped the cracks in rereleases on virtual consoles or favorite rom lists.

    Yep, I came here expecting a mention of at least 1 of the Enix "trilogy" too, and man, was it the one I think is the better one of the 3 even though most people say something else.

    Soulblazer was the predecessor to the excellent Illusion of Gaia. Heck, even Illusion of Gaia is probably underrated as well.

    The only other console game I can think of that does evoliving your character is the Dreamcast game Seventh Cross Evolution. I would not be surprised to hear it was a port like E.V.O.

    How is Lufia 2 underrated? Literally everyone that I knew that was into Jrpgs back in the day knew of and beat Lufia as well.

    Makes a video about underrated SNES gems and then lists well known games with dedicated player bases and games that are celebrated by fans. Great "list." 😒 Quit content creation if you're going to be an echo chamber and do lazy, uninspired lists. You should feel bad about yourself.

    With all due respect, Lufia 2 isn't underrated. It's under-discovered. Everyone I've ever met or heard of that played it, loved it. It's just that, not enough people ever heard about it in the first place. It's a top tier game, still ranks among my favorites of all time, even today.

      I think that’s what they mean when they say underrated. While we take the word literally and assume everyone knows the game and not rating it high enough, in the gaming rank world, underrated just implies, games that should have gotten more famous.l because they are great. Or were hidden gems not enough blow Iole knew about. Not that it ranked low and should have been higher

    All the goemon snes games are great another hidden gem is legendary RPG Maka Maka 摩訶摩訶 wackier than any of the mother games never released outside of Japan and still relatively unknown even here. Day of the idea is another title that comes to mind.

    The Lufia series wasn't really underrated, but I get that it's hard to find an underrated JRPG on the SNES... the reality is that it was pretty much the golden age of Squaresoft RPGs, and everything else paled in comparison. Honestly, if I try to think of SNES JRPGs that weren't published or developed by Squaresoft, Lufia is probably the most popular among them. Maybe Breath of Fire or Dragon Quest was more popular in Japan, but among US fans, I think anyone who was deep enough into JRPGs at the time to know of one that wasn't by Squaresoft was as likely to have played Lufia as any of the Dragon Warrior games or Breath of Fire, if not more so. It's too bad Lufia never came to Genesis/Mega Drive like they originally planned, it probably would have done better there.
