The fact that you're such a big part of the retro gaming sphere, and you haven't completed some of these "essential" titles is so relateable and refreshing. Not everyone has played everything. Great video mate. Agree with the placing on Yoshi’s Island, great to see it get some love, far and away the best looking game on the system. Not to mention the incredible level design. Chrono Trigger is definitely #1 in my opinion. I suppose I'm biased as this game was one of the first RPGs I played on Super Nintendo, outside of LOZ. I feel like it *WAS* a hidden gem, not so much anymore, but hey! still gotta love this game.
If the slowdown in Super Ghouls n' Ghosts bothers you, you may want to try the version that on Capcom Classics Collection for PS2. I don't know if it was intentionally overclocked or if it's just an emulation issue, but it seriously reduces the slowdown if not removing it entirely - at least on the NTSC version, never played it on PAL.

It was the same situation for me with Sim City 2000, I so wanted but would never have the right stuff at home to play it. Then one day I walked into Dixons and they had Sim City 2000 for £49.99. I played it to death and was an amazing port for the SNES. I played it right up to the day I got my PC years later.
@Marcus M, same story here, except I bought my copy of the game through the mail from a video game store in New Jersey, USA (I think), along with some other good shooter games, namely, Darius Twin, Phalanx, Super R-Type, and R-Type III: The Third Lightning (which both Phalanx and R-Type III: The Third Lightning also have GBA ports).
Long time fan, awesome video as usual. Wanted to say though, Hagane actually wasnt a blockbuster exclusive, I believe that got debunked 2 years ago, but yeah it's so odd the story behind that one in general lol anyways look forward to the next vid!
The spiritual prequel and sequel to Super Smash T.V., which are Robotron 2084 and Total Carnage, respectively, also got SNES/NSFC ports, the latter under its own title and the former under an arcade collection that is called Williams' Arcade Greatest Hits. Both games also got Sega Genesis/Mega Drive ports under the same titles as they appeared on the SNES/NSFC, and Smash T.V. even had a surprisingly good NES/FDS port as well.
Excellent video!! It's a very good list of 50 game gems from the best of SNES. And the important thing about everything that includes all variety of genres and is aimed at all tastes and is a great guide to selecting and buying games. Cheers!!
All 3 SNES Capcom Mickey games are superior to the Genesis Mickey games. The second one was definitely the worst and was released on the Genesis as well.
@53:42-53:55= PLEASE tell me, oh Dear Justice, that this means that after all these years we're finally getting a "Top 20 Worst SNES Games"? because, let's face it... just like you said in your "Top 20 Worst Mega Drive/Genesis Games Redone" a few years back : "ah; people like shit!" (you've no idea how long I've waited to make that joke, LOL!)
Hagane being a Blockbuster exclusive is actually a myth caused by the Mandela Effect due to everyone confusing the exclusivity of ClayFighters: Sculptor's Cut with Hagane.
Yes hagane wasn't a blockbuster exclusive at all, it was available anywhere, even by mail order in SNES mags. Final fight guy was a BB exclusive, hagane wasn't.
The vertical levels in Axelay were not mode 7, it was just a line scroll effect, which featured in a few Megadrive games aswell like the bonus stage in sonic 3d blast and the into the screen road level in Contra Hardcorps. This imo was really gimicky and would have played far better and smoother if they just did it like normal vertical shooters. The game did feature a little bit of mode 7 like the 'ED209' boss in which they made the boss the background layer the same way they did the Bowser boss fight in Super Mario World. They had to do it this way because the Snes could not rotate sprites.
The warbly synth that goes with your intro logo evokes such dread in me. Is it actually from one of those wretched old logos like Screen Gems or is it an original composition?
Kudo's on SimCity2000, love that game, it's one that you can always fire up when you actually want to kill some time on a game. I even play the original sometimes... one of the few games that you have to take slowly. I remember getting the Playstation version, and leaving it on for days on end just collecting taxes.
I still remember demons crest being stacked walls deep at the toy shops when i was a wee lad because nobody ever bought it. If only i had bought the whole damn shelve lol.
I'll be honest, I'm surprised Super Mario World wasn't in the top 10, especially considering the time. There was simply nothing quite like it for the first couple of years of the SNES life.
I've had many people argue with me that they just weren't a fan of the digitized graphics at the time. Although, I think many people were just burnt out on the use of them after Mortal Kombat popularized it and the style sort of blew up. The art style really has nothing to do with how great the game is, so I never got the argument.
Kim! Any chance of getting a pastebin link for this or any future top game lists? Several of them I've watched I wanted to go back and research your suggestions myself, and it might be easier with a text list. Thanks for this!
If you want to check out another Kirby game, I recommend Kirby's Adventure on the NES. It's very creative and beautiful, and a lot of fun despite the fact that it's not very challenging.
Ooh, i forget the rest of the world says SNES , in the States *Super N.E.S* oooh well yall our the proper 1s 😅 , so many good beat em up's on SNES Super Double Dragon and Final Fight , brawl brothers etc , i even like Data East Sengoku
I don't believe that you have the necessary snes playing experience to make a list. Even though you admitted not playing through some of the best games, your list wasn't too bad. I'd like to see an updated list after you play through megaman x, ff6, and Chrono trigger.
Speaking of Horizon Chase Turbo, some of the people that worked on the Top Gear (or, as they most likely called it in PAL regions, for obvious reasons, Top Racer, though, ironically, NTSB-U regions, specifically, the USA, would actually get a version of Top Gear of their own, to mixed reviews) series also did the music for that game, and one of the tracks for Top Gear/Top Racer was actually in the OST of Horizon Chase Turbo.
I played Sim City 2000 back in the days. It really was great. I even needed to create a start disk so it could run with my 4 MB RAM machine. That was the first time I created one and I felt like a god when it worked. Music and sound only worked when I upgraded to 8 MB though.

Yeah, I had it for the Amiga, hen I got the Snes version, loved i!
I will try not to judge to much on this this is my favorite system
Thank you Kim. A well enjoyed episode.
Excellent video!! It's a very good list of 50 game gems from the best of SNES. And the important thing about everything that includes all variety of genres and is aimed at all tastes and is a great guide to selecting and buying games. Cheers!!
2:21 Why is it obvious that Mickey Mouse is better suited to Sega?
@@SA77888 I always thought the snes one was better
All 3 SNES Capcom Mickey games are superior to the Genesis Mickey games. The second one was definitely the worst and was released on the Genesis as well.
Everything I excepted was here. Only game I also thought would appear on this list is Earthbound.
I think you meant expected not excepted, which is like exception to the rule?
The SNES had so many good games, I don't think I'd be able to make a top 50 list, but I definitely would have put Mario RPG and Kirby Superstar on it.
The sheer volume of things that Kim has reviewed has to be a record of some sort.
Been looking forward to this.
Wasn't anything to do with the Mandela effect either.🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣
You could make a video about your top 50 phone numbers and I'd still love it! :)
I still remember demons crest being stacked walls deep at the toy shops when i was a wee lad because nobody ever bought it. If only i had bought the whole damn shelve lol.
You’ve given me some ideas for my next purchases 👍🏻
I'll be honest, I'm surprised Super Mario World wasn't in the top 10, especially considering the time. There was simply nothing quite like it for the first couple of years of the SNES life.
I'd like to know the circles you hung around in if people criticised the massively acclaimed dk country. Game was a smash when it came out
I've had many people argue with me that they just weren't a fan of the digitized graphics at the time.
Very nice, question remains, where would I find all these games to play?? :-(
If you want to check out another Kirby game, I recommend Kirby's Adventure on the NES. It's very creative and beautiful, and a lot of fun despite the fact that it's not very challenging.
mt list:
1. Zelda III
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Super Metroid
4. Final Fantasy 6
5. Super Mario World
Never played Earthbound of Secret of Mana.
Amazing work as always Kim!
Great top 50. One of my favourite SNES games was Unirally. (Uniracers) in the states. Top 2 player action.
@James Da Costa, I played Unirally/Uniracers as well...I honestly was only marginally impressed with the game.
Always look forward to these.
An Acorn/BBC top 50 would be cool.
Ooh, i forget the rest of the world says SNES , in the States
*Super N.E.S* oooh well yall our the proper 1s 😅 , so many good beat em up's on SNES Super Double Dragon and Final Fight , brawl brothers etc , i even like Data East Sengoku
