Obasanjo was not the first democratically elected President of Nigeria.
ALHAJI ALIU SHEHU SHAGARI had that honour.
    2. Otherwise, the first indigenous Head of State of Nigeria was Dr. Nnamdi Hezekiah AZIKIWE from 1963 when Nigeria became a Republic after its independence from Britain on October 1st 1960.
    Azikiwe's title was President.
    3. ALHAJI TAFAWA BALEWA was Prime Minister that is, Head of the Federal Government until 1966 when he lost his life in a military coup organized by ethnic supremacists military officers led by Majors Patrick Chukwuemeka Nzeogwu and Emmanuel Ifeajuna.
