The supreme Court should also grant State, local government security autonomy to be in charge of their own security police, Let start getting it right little by little
State Police will be a huge mistake
Good interpretion by Prof Mike.....
What is the basis of creating a local govt? Since the LG alocation is to be shared to the 774 of them by Federal Govt, then it will be important that the States should have equal numbers of local govt to enable equal opportunities
A state should get a set amount and it is shared among however many local governments they have
God bless and guide the president of Nigeria
Let INEC conduct LG election. I want to contest in my state.
God bless you bro. Absolute truth
Me too and my concern is maternity / clinic, paying teachers rebuild primary schools and creat strong security etc
Which INEC?
All newly to be appointed local government chairmen should go through code of conduct.
Declaring what they have before office and after office and the office disbursing these monies should have to be audited monthly or quarterly God bless Nigeria.
This judgment is not complete without ruling on who is in charge on the electoral processes of the LG in the state. Cos if the state is still in charge of who become the LG chair person..there wont be any change at all.
Let the Local Govts. breathe abeg
I urge Chairmen to understand they don't have immunity, if you like return your allocation to your Governor, you will understand that you will shalaye to EFCC
Na soooooo. We know where you live and your family. You will even ṣhàlàyé to us first b4 EFCC 😂
@@musaadedibu9316it’s not good. They will be bribing EFCC guys.
Do think EFCC is unbiased...?
@@paschalchidiebere5380EFCC can easily arrest local govt chairmen
Thank you for correcting the journalist that is not only Rivers State that has CTC❤
POWER POWER POWER TO THE PEOPLE
Good judgement congratulations to LGAs.
Thumb up for president Bola Tunubu.
Story, he was a governor, he did worst to local government...he even created more to himself...leave politicians
POWER TO THE PEOPLE
I agree with you Sir
Let the EFCC keep an Eagle eye on the council chairmen, so that even if Govs use SIECs to impose their stooges, the EFCC can go after those stooges in case of corruption
Let the attorney general of the state be elected by the people.
Praise God Forever.
lDo you think Anambra people deserve explanation why Peter Obi did not conduct local government election in 8 years and what happened to the funds/ allocation ?
Why Peter obi. Pls allow the man to have a breath. He is not the president of the zoo that you should checkmate
@@okeyekeh936 But he pocketed local government money ..FOR 8 GOOD YEARS !!!!! …he should be exempted because he is ibo bah
You do not know Anambra and what happened under PO. I designed and supervised Roadsbinitiated by the lgas purely under LGA-state joint development framework @@oscarlagoke8920
Hope the AGF will also look at the First ladies positions to reduce governace expenditures, that is not even in our constitution and let the Supreme Court scrap the positions that receive money for their offices, when we have Humanitarian and women affairs ministries taking care of the poor, children etc. My question, what is the work assigned to them that's not captured by those two ministries. The masses are suffering and there should be no duplication of any kind bleeding the scarce resources.
Why are you mentioning Rivers State alone. Please it's been national issue
Learned Law Prof.
The Supreme Court ruling is simply, ……..“ patching an old- worn out clothing with a new piece of cloth “
So long as our elections remains “Professor Yakubu Mahmood election”, and the current state electoral commission, in which citizens votes doesn’t count…. Because it’s the governor that “SELECTS”whom to be“baptized” as the winner as the chairperson of each local government in their various states, even if the money is wired from CBN to the private account of the “ governor’s selected chairperson “ he/she is obliged to bring the money to his/her godfather..,,”the governor” since he that pays the piper dictates the turn of the music… they say
But if the chairperson emerges through a free and fair election, then he/she will be accountable to the people because he would be compelled to impress the people in order to be returned again after his/her tenure expires
All in all all efforts should be channeled to having a truly independent electoral commission from federal to local government level
What about those part of the northern state where bandits n extremist have taken over local government? Or entire village or part of the state
Politicians in Nigeria see us as fools that’s why we are the way we are today, they keep on destroying our lives gradually, things getting worse daily while they and their families are living large and safe from hunger and insecurity the common people pass through, not until we take our future in our own hands, these politicians and corrupt civil servants won’t have sense, we need to eat them for breakfast when we are hungry.
It will be nice for the governors to take the federal government supreme court to argue for true independence of the states and their resources
Ps 105 v 15 Prof, Mike My Unife 1975 Prelim English coursemate. Amb Lawrence Obisakin,PhD,DCE.
Why is this court decision different from other decisions by the same Supreme Court that have not been obeyed either by the President of Nigeria or even governors. This is a country where leaders with impunity decide which decision to obey as long as it suits their fancy. Local Government autonomy decision is much ado about nothing. Even the Supreme Court has no autonomy.
Where is Malami or malawi, Controvercial AGF? Should come and learn how its been done. Thanks to authentic AGF.
I fear what you said that a CONSTUTIONAL provisions can only become when Supreme court says so. This is a call for anarchy
This is very good so that the Governors can now sit up and challenge the federal to devolve power but how will they since some of them are studges to their predecessors.
For instance can Gov. IDODO challenge TINUBU in this circumstance, in his dreams and that's part of the bane of our CIVILIAN RULE
Prof. Mike Ozekhome is purely a MONEY LOVING LAWYER and he who wants to be Seen and Heard.
Nigeria is a damaged country. The governors will still find a way to thwart the ruling. A case in point is the new electoral law. People jubilated, believing that the new law would end electoral malpractice in the country. We saw in 2023, how corrupted INEC messed it up with corrupted judiciary in concurrence. Until the judiciary learn their critical role in the survival of this wobbling country, there is no hope for the country.
There might not be hope for you, but there is hope SURELY for Nigeria and Nigerians 😊.
@29:29, did someone respond to Prof's HELLOOOO? I had a "Hiiiii" response. if you do, like this....🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love Kenya
I thought the president said committee not ministry, where does this information come from.
This is oure nonsense if corruption is not tackled. This is just rearranging the sharing formula for putting the public fund. The political foundation is broken hence will need a general overhaul with sincere purpose and commitment!
This man is always on TV to say the right things, and yet he is the number counsel to the riggers and looters.
Everyone has a right to a defence in court. Don't blame lawyers for doing their job
Why couldn't Peter Obi produce any evidence or witness to substantiate his rigging allegations in court, grumbler.
U funny oooo
Just because Peter Obi lied about the election and was able to get thousands of people to repeat his lies on the media and the Internet does not change the fact that he lied about his loss in the presidential election.
The Legal profession is guided and guarded by strong ethical pillars. Lawyers are to defend their clients.
This man is loosing it, he's not answering questions as asked.
It's a good outcome but to me clearly unconstitutional.
The local government chairman will be in the spotlight of EFCC
If we the ppl don't storm out and change dis system, nothing will change..we can go ahead blaming ethnicity and religion
Federal govt allocation is 52.8 percent not 62 percent
The power to share national cake is still with Almighty Federal Government
Now our communities should prosper. LGs, hopefully will carry workforce that is only necessary and critical to administer and deliver social goods to our communities. Sustainable development should be the focus of LGs. We technically have 4 tiers of government, including the municipal government, i.e. municipal, city, or township, government.
The governors can't stop this Huray!
What kind of democratically elected LG when the ruling party write election results before the elections are held.
For the first time I am feeling at variance with my big silk. For me this judgement is a bavkward movement.
FG is getting 52.68% not 62.68%
Prof probably made mistake
Aisha Yesufu has not been seen after she complained someone threatened her
Go and search for her now
The best laws can work everywhere except in Nigeria.
You deserve a medal for this comment.
Election of local governments' chairmen should also be done by the INEC and not by the state.
Nigeria isèvolving.graduàĺly
This ruling does not change anything, Nigeria is a failed state where nothing works.
The state governors are emperors, they pocket the state house of assembly. The local government chairman aspirants will be chosen in the governor's bedroom and rigged via the state independence electoral commission irrespective of the wish of the majority of people in the local government.
These handpicked chairman/errand boy of the governor will enter unholy alliance to give whatever percentage of the local govt allocation to the governor before they are picked by the emperor governor, failure to comply is political suicide by any stubborn LG chairman who wants to resist the governor after coming to office.
Our democracy is a total failure, the judiciary is pocketed by the executive, the police and security agencies, inec are bulldozer to declare the incumbent government in power winners of rigged elections.
The pressure groups,NLC,student union have all being emasculated by the corrupt political party in power at every level from abuja to all the states in the country
To crown the hopeless situations is the timid passive Nigeria masses or followers who have refuse to take their destiny in their hands by overthrowing the corrupt elite through a massive revolution.
lDo you think Anambra people deserve explanation why Peter Obi did not conduct local government election in 8 years and what happened to the funds/ allocation ? PLEASE I NEED RESPONSE
Are you from Anambra state? face your Tinubu and Yoruba states and leave Anambra Alone mumu😮
Audit his administration that is only tin to do
where is Aisha Yesufu
One of the Nigerian problem is speaking. Someone who defend corrupt politicians that loot both state and federial money. Please go behind me mr laywer.
Aisha Yesufu just disappeared . and she complained about someone threatening her
Aisha yesufu is a groupie na only to lick Peter Obi Nyash she Abi
Now bloody council elections looms
who will have the final say, we are not only alive to eat food, if a train is passing through 5 local government, and the local government wants to build school, who has the final say between the governor and the local governmnet. will state has there representative in local government as federal government has office in there states? or will there be exclusive list? i hope it will not further divide the people, where people will strat saying you cant rent store here, you are not from this local government. what i see is tinubu throwing the fight down between states and local govenmnet, all states asset are in a particular local government, does the chairman has power over it?
i just hope there wont be clashing between local governments soon
Indomie generation and obidiots should listen to how Aguyi Ironsi destroyed regional govt in Nigeria and one region crying marginalisation but forgot that their fathers laid the foundations of their problems they're facing today
Don’t be a fool, how long should it take to fix Nigeria?
@@donwilliamz-k4m you think very well, country that has been destroyed over 50yrs ago and you want miracle within 1yr you're joking.
Why are you so 4ulish?
Ok, but they'll get money from their Governor, yes? Because for now Local government councils are not autonomous.
the local government has no assemly, who will tell the chairman and councilor what to do with the allocation. serious fight coming
Councillors are local governments' legislators. They constitute the legislative assemblies in their respective LGAs.
@@clementtanimose4585thank u. A lot of Nigerian ned to be sensitive how government is being run. This is d reflection of our education system
LGA Chairman is the Executive
Ward Councilor is Legislature
District Magistrate court is Judiciary
I think am correct so the chairman has to constitute a local cabinet which are called Supervisors and they will be given a portfolio which mandates them to work as commissioners in local level also the councilors will make laws and regulations for funds handling and also bring the plight of the people from their respective wards to the council for discussion and solutions which will transmitted to the Chairman to sanction and jobs conducted under the supervision of supervisors.
U are very correct
i see huge fight here, states do not have land, each land in a states belong to local government, if we want to farm, the state government wants to build train, who will have final say? it seems the government has throwm the fight to the governor and the people, rather than blaming federal government
Governor’s position is for state policy why local government implement like president to governor relation . The people can hold ur local government accountable and by that we can be having good reps is assembly both state and federal
By constitution provisions, C of O is still vested with the governor. Land matter is exclusive preserve of the governor
Not true, land use act, didn't give land to local government, but state
Any State Governments that fail or neglect to conduct elections into Local Government Councils or restore the sacked Councils within a specified period, say 90 days should have their allocations withheld by the FAAC. I so moved!
The Supreme Court is going to deliver Nigeria
TINUBU KNOWS WHATS HES DOING. HE WILL TAKE OVER THE STATES FROM THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT... KUDOS...
You have an eagle eyes clap for yourself
The supreme court has helped to put some sanity into dis our democratic system. This must b celebrated by all and hope dt our elected local chairmen will rise up to d occasion and prove us all right for clamouring for this for years.
Fagbemi, it is same u who stood for d Governors that no court can amend d constitution, u and ur governor won. What u and one of d person who benefited from d ruling then, is amending d clause which is constitution matter using court instead allowing National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly to amend. You have deposited our constitution in d dustbin with this amended through Supreme Court. No matter d merit of d judgement, it has violated our constitution. Since Nigerians including law makers and some so called lawyers are applauding this ilegality, u and presidency will soon take to another clause to Supreme Court for amendment.
Too much money given to wike, why the local people are suffering
what has wike got todo with this now
lDo you think Anambra people deserve explanation why Peter Obi did not conduct local government election in 8 years and what happened to the funds/ allocation ?
