While alcohol and drugs plagued Andy's life and weakened his body, he actually died from an inflammation of the heart muscle called Myocarditis. As you mentioned, he had NO drugs or alcohol in his system at the time. Andy was an adventurous soul. He jumped horses, sailed a 58' yacht, played a mean game of Tennis (to benefit charity) and flew small planes (he had a pilot's license). To date, he is the ONLY artist to ever have 3 consecutive Number 1 hits on Billboard straight out of the box. His relationship with Principal ended in 1982. It only lasted about a year and he really struggled with it, but was well "over" her long before he passed in 1988. Sadly, Andy never believed in his tremendous talent as a songwriter and performer. He loved his brothers dearly but felt overshadowed by them. His lack of confidence and severe depression certainly contributed to the substance abuse. I live pretty close to Andy's resting place and visit frequently. His father is interred in a crypt directly around the corner from him at Forest Lawn. Hugh Gibb never got over the loss of his youngest son and died just a few years later. I LOVED this vlog, Jordan! Excellent research and wonderful presentation! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! R.I.P. dear Andy.

Back in the early 70s when I was around 15, I went to a Beegees concert in London with my parents. At the interval, I spotted Andy standing near the stage and my Dad took me to ask him to get the brothers' autographs, which he rushed off and very kindly did. At the time, nobody really recognised him, but I followed everything about the whole family, being a Beegees fanatic! When he returned, we thanked him and my Dad, as a last minute thought, asked Andy to add his autograph too. 'But I'm not famous!' he said, but added it anyway. I still have that piece of paper, with only Barry left now. Incidentally, I met Maurice Gibb in his dressing room at The Garrick Theatre, London, when he was appearing in a stage musical. He invited me and my Mum there after waiting to see him after the show. He gave me a hug, a signed album from the show and was T.H.E. loveliest person I have ever met in all my years. R.I.P. Maurice, Robin and Andy. (Apologies for the stupid - now corrected - mistake!)

I’m sorry I never saw him live in concert, but saw The Bee Gees in 1979. I was heartbroken when he passed away. I’m happy to have grown up with the Gibb Brothers music. It made me very happy. Andy Gibb’s mother, Barbara Gibb, is on record stating that she’d asked the doctors at the time he’d entered the hospital, if there were indications of Cocaine or alcohol in his system and she was told NO. He’d died of PERICARDITIS, which is inflammation of the pericardium (the fibrous sac surrounding the heart). Symptoms typically include sudden onset of sharp chest pain, which may also be felt in the shoulders, neck, or back. The pain is typically less severe when sitting up and more severe when lying down or breathing deeply. This may have been brought on by his cocaine use but could’ve been treated (for several months), had the UK doctors contacted his American doctors, been made aware of and therefore could’ve received the proper treatment.

If only they understood the abuse of Drugs back then. Once the shame of it was removed. And they understood usually People who got an addiction, it was because they were suffering from some form of depression. No one wakes up and says, gee I think I'll become addicted to drugs. It usually happens from an injury, and they are dealing with severe pain, that leads to depression. Or like in Andy's case he felt he was a failure. More than that he felt he was a disappointment to People who meant the World to him. I remember when Andy, first passed away, so many of his fans blamed Victoria Principal. I remember Barry Gibb, and I believe his two other Brothers were on a talk show together. Someone in the Audience asked Barry, if the Family blamed Victoria Principal for Andy's death, like so many of Andys fans did. Barry replied, no the Family was not blaming Victoria and neither should anyone else. Andy had a problem and was denying it in the beginning. Barry felt Victoria did all She could. And when Andy made the choice to keep doing the drugs, instead of asking Victoria to help and support him. Unknown to Andy, Victoria later admitted breaking up with Andy, was the hardest thing she ever did. ( at least at that time). She stated She had to save herself. Now that they have a better understanding about drug abuse, and the fact there is usually an underlying reason, mentally, usually depression and or chronic pain, is usually what leads to it. Hopefully with the new medical and mental approach way, they are handling drug addiction. More People will reach out to get the professional help they need. And more can be saved. Remember hate the Sin not the Sinner. Let your love one know you will be there to help them through it. If they don't want help from you or professional help. Unfortunately you have to wait until they are willing to get the professional help. Just don't let them turn you into an enabler. Also pray for the Person battling the disease, especially if they have chronic pain. R.I.P. Andy. The one thing I never understood was why didn't the Hospital do current test on Andy, if they knew he had a heart condition? In my Family History, both of my Parents and one of my Older Sisters suffered from various heart conditions. And whenever I go to the E.R. they always do an EKG and blood work to check my heart. That's if I go in for dehydration or stomach problems. If I hurt my ankle, they don't check. Also now that the stigma and shame has been removed, hopefully more People will be able to beat the addiction and hopefully get the help to help them with whatever they maybe depressed about.

Andy dated Tanya Tucker for a short time and I met Andy in the office of The Palomino Club, he was drug and alcohol free at The Palomino, nice guy but kind of shy. I guess he did his drugs and alcohol in private? Andy invited the owner of The Palomino Club and me to his house in Woodland Hills after the show, but it was late. I was shocked when I saw Andy's story on VH-1 Behind The Music. Rest In Peace Andy, I hope you are at peace now.

I was SO devastated when I heard he'd passed, I was in 8th grade. To this day I still love the Shadow Dancing album (along with all his others, but SD the most) & play it most each spring. He was such a sweet soul, I wish he knew how much he was loved & adored. 💕💕 Still love you Andy!! Thank you for the video, I get to "go" so many places on YT that I otherwise can't! God Bless you 💕💕

Thank you for the beautiful vlog on Andy. He was my first music crush. I was crushed when I heard of his death. How could someone so young just die like that? He had a life not everyone knew about. He was married and has a daughter. Sadly I don't think Andy wanted to be the 4th Bee Gee. I think Barry was pushing him into it or something else he didn't want. Andy didn't die of a drug overdose or anything like that. But I think there was a lot of damage done to his heart with all the cocaine he did. I'm not a doctor and I can't say for sure. I never knew there was a bench with his name on it near by his resting place. It's nice to see some flowers in the vases. People must be coming by to say hi. I'm still sad he's gone and I listen to his music to this day. I'm glad you went out and visited Andy and told his story. I knew you would do a good job. Rest in Peace Andy. I still love you and always will. You were and are my everything. Jordan Stay safe, take care and God bless you.

You are spot on with the life of Andy Gibb. I'm a BeeGees fan of many years. I remember being so excited when Andy came on the scene because he was a hottie and could sing just like Barry. The end of his life was sad. His Mom had a "feeling" about her baby. She stayed with him as he had become rambunctious. He also left behind a family in another life. Just way too much for a young man of Andy's talent. He will forever be missed. Great presentation about Andy!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I bartended at a disco back in the day and I HATED the damn Bee Gees. The whole disco movement brought this Doors and Stones fan to tears, but, hey, it was a job. All the disco girls dreamed of and drooled over Andy while I snickered behind their backs. Now, I hear the Bee Gees and I get so nostalgic and remember nothing, but, how much fun I had back then. I learned to love the genius of the Brothers Gibb and in my head I see Travolta boogieing down the street with his swinging paint can and of course, images of the adorable Andy Gibb. He died way too soon. RIP.

I was lucky enough to meet their Dad, Hugh back during the Spirits Having Flown tour in 1979. My Mom worked at the hotel they were staying at downtown St Paul, MN - the Radisson at the time, now the Crown Plaza. I also saw Barry's wife, Lynda. We were supposed to go back to the hotel after the show, but my friend got sick and we had to get her back home = nerves from all of the excitement created nausea, lol. We did go down to visit Hugh at the concert. He told us he was going to be sitting with the sound guys. He was the nicest guy, and I have 2 photos of him - one with my Mom, and the other of him by the sound area. My friend and I were 15 years old at the time. Great memories!!!

I remember when Andy was the co-host of Solid Gold back in the late 70's and during the 80's. Quite a few different hosts were on that show and it always made me wonder why they switched out so much. I guess it explains as to why. I even remember Andy Gibb appearing on TV shows that were popular in the 80's like Gimme A Break, I believe a couple of episodes of Punky Brewster, and Solid Gold as well. The reason why I remember him on Punky Brewster was due in part having a sister a year younger than me who enjoyed watching Punky Brewster. I loved the music that Andy and his brothers came out with.
