Been watching your videos for over a year. I do construction. Have done a few dozen showers. You’re probably the fastest I’ve ever seen someone do tile. Are you in California? Might be doing one of my restrooms soon. But your work is so much faster and cleaner than mine I’m not afraid to admit it.
Absolutely crazy how easy the shower demoed!! I will NEVER purchase an upgraded tile shower package from a builder!!! If I'm not hiring the guys to do it (& watching you guys for years & knowing what to look for) just install a fiberglass surround & we'll upgrade it later ourselves!! Hoping all is well Liggy Liggy Landberg, Dirty Jersey out!!
Look into getting a 3M M3000 Hand Masker. Hands down the best tool for masking anything. Bought a few myself, one is set up with brown paper and the other painters plastic. Great videos and love the attention detail you have.
The problem is you will never find tile installers that agree on the correct way to do something. Nobody agrees with anybody. Plus tile companies trying to make things so complicated. Drains drive me crazy. All it is is water going down a hole, not rocket science.
So where was the water damage? Backer board and studs looked fine. Looked so pristine, that you could have left the side walls up and covered with sheet membrane.
No damage on the backer board and the client wasted money on a leak detection company. That's definitely a great idea wrapping with kerdi membrane if the backer is still in tact, but they paid for a full tear out and all Kerdi board. Client gets what the client wants.
@@LandbergTileTV Surely as a Professional contractor, isn't your job to point out to the client the fact that there wasn't any water damage after all and therefore the job can be completed at less cost to them. This is certainly something that I do as a professional tile fixer here in the UK. It also works the other way aswell, where a job throws up unforseen problems and the price goes up.
@@andrewtivey7492 There was no water damage therefore no cost to replace framing or joists. The new shower is far superior to the old shower and the client is very happy.
The best part of crummy tile installation jobs. They're easy to remove. We removed a kitchen floor recently, and so many tiles came up nicely that my employee saved 75 percent of them to reuse at his own house.
So you sold them a new tub surround because of the water damaged drywall? That always happens if the tile isnt legged down but rearly results in serious damage.
Why the big fuss over not having full thinset coverage on walls? The tile held up for five years and would of held up longer if not for the prybar and hammer. Can someone explain.....thanks
Hi Ben In a shower you need to have something like 95-98% coverage of thinset between tile and substrate because of possible moisture penetration and possibly mold growth. Your grout and tile are not 100% impermeable to water, so if water does get back there it could grow mold as well as weaken your bedding material (thinset) that bonds the tiles. This what I have learned from my experience as well as what is recommend
Tile not porcelain, red body cheap big box tile. nitch didn’t leak because solid aluminum, also those nitchs are pre pitched. To bad they didn’t trowel on concrete boards otherwise would have been fine. As good as Schluter board 1/3 the price
@@LandbergTileTV than the owner should of made an insurance claim for the damage and a leak detection fraudsters need to provide proof that there is a leak
So it looks like you prefer Kerdi board over studs v. backer board w/Kerdi membrane? Or is this what the customer wanted? Just looking for tips, not a criticism.
Just what the customer wanted. They paid for complete rip out and kerdi board up. Only a couple hundred dollars and hour of work to have all walls the same.
Wow just can't believe you protect the tub with just paper, being a tile professional you should know better. Can't imagine all the scratches and chips that will happen when tile falls on it. They have tub liners for a reason.. rookie mistake to say the least.. I didn't see any water damage, not to mention any back pitch on niche. I think the homeowner picked the cheapest bid she got and didn't like the way the tile looked and wanted someone else to blame, just my opinion. The original tile was not professional installed..
You got a new van. Why did you buy such a small van? Lol Better on gas? Tile guys/bath remodelers have too many tools and we haul garbage/materials around. You think you should've gotten a big van instead.
Because of the gas, the $400 I save per month goes into this van/asset. I have the van, truck and dump trailer for debris. This van is awesome and hold all the tools I need 👊
@@LandbergTileTV You can really save $400 a month?? The math doesn't add up though.... If you drive 1000 miles a month. About 45 miles a day. Typical 30 minute commute. 22 mpg for the small van at $3.80 a gallon....That's $172 a month. If you have a big van with 12.5 mpg at $3.80 per gallon, that's $304 a month....That's only $132 a month saved.
Thank you. You are an organized team!
I like what you did with the car. That will save you a lot of back problems. Work smarter, not harder!

Loll after watching these types of videos, I'm confident that 70% to 80% of everyone's tile is installed incorrectly.

Nothing wrong with the bathroom tiles. It appears clients wanted an updated bathroom.

What van racking is that please?
I’ve been on a lot of jobs and I’ve never seen a worse bathroom install than that.
Lol
I noticed you protected the floor, tub and toilet. But you put all your tools on the vanity countertop. Most customers would have an issue with that.

yup, you're right, but a leak detection company said otherwise

3/8" trowel on that big tile? wowzers..plus hardi in a shower? who are these guys and how do they get work? lol
Bad tile jobs make for the best demo jobs, easy.
Good man.
👊🙏
How come you guys didnt put vaper shield in behind the hardi board?
Because you don't need one. The kerdi board and banding makes the walls 100% waterproof, unlike cement board or similar.
Good stuff
Thanks!
Stupid amateur question. Can you (and should you) use insulation behind a shower?
For exterior yes and to minimize the noise for other rooms

The stick on the backer board made me laugh. Also, do you sand and shim studs for flatness?
These studs were fairly plumb, and if off a bit, it's easy to adjust with large format and 1/2 " trowel .
