    I sewed by hand for YEARS because I used to be afraid of sewing machines---I thought they were hard to use. I recently took a leap of faith and bought a Singer and realized that there's nothing to be afraid of! I'm working on basic tutus and skirts until I get lots of practice and this video was very helpful... Easy to understand and follow, and well put-together.

    Thank you for this . I am experienced but about to venture into another dimension of sewing I havent been in before. Funny how I put it into the search engine over and over in different ways and words and couldnt get information on what needles to use specifically for elastic. First time someone came right out and gave that information. I applaud you.

    Since this is a video is for beginners it might be helpful to point out that when passing elastic thru a casing on a garment which has seams, the seams should be tackled down or pressed to one side in the direction the elastic will be threaded thru. Otherwise the safety pun or bodkin may hang up on the seam allowance preventing tit from continuing thru the casing.

    When you sew the elastic directly to the fabric, how do you finish the edge? Do you fold it under and sew it under the elastic?

    Hi, I've watched all seven episodes, and appreciate your thorough explanations. However, I'm still so nervous about sewing! Thanks again for being very clear from explaining tools and machine parts, kinds of stitches, etc. I will be watching more on the tube, and I know I'll be sewing before I too long. I'll start with perhaps a puppet. Thank you so much1

      Sometimes when starting to sew the elastic, the threads will get balled up. When that happens, I have to use my handwheel to start the stitch and then gently assist the elastic through the machine, but only for a second. That should take care of the problem. If not, shoot us another message =D

    HELP!!! Which Named Elastic Band (that you named in this video) do you recommend to hold a paperback book closed. I will have to sew by hand to meet the ends together. I'm not gluing it to the book. I'm making it to fit the book tightly to keep it closed. Not too tight, forcing the book to bend. I have sewing needles at home and have no clue what kind they are. Help! I don't know what brand from what company to get either. I would like one that has color, to make it look more attractive on the cover of my book. Help! I can get stuff from Walmart. A person can order from there and get it delivered. I'm in California. Thankyou and God Bless You!!!

    This was a great video, however it still didn’t contain what I was after. I’ve got a sewing pattern which includes an elastic guide, and all I wanted to know is when cutting the elastic do I just place it on the guide and cut as I would fabric, or do I need to stretch it across the guide before cutting please? I have NO idea! Thank you.

    • @maziyar7933
      @maziyar7933 3 роки тому +1

      You have to put it on the pattern when it's realxed and not strached . Then strach it to the size of the place you want sew and so it on with a zig zag stitch so that when you let of the elastic , it straches back the fabric

    Hello, your video is quite helpful! I'm looking to repair a stretched out zip-up sweater cuff using some elastic. I'm hoping to simply sew a small amount against the inside seam of the cuff/sleeve (which would leave the elastic against my skin, no casing). Do you think I could use a fashion elastic of a similar color or should I simply stick with a knit elastic? Any help is appreciated!

    • @SewingPartsOnline
      @SewingPartsOnline  9 років тому +2

      Hugadale Kids can be a little different. When I make my son pants, I will wrap the elastic around his waist and play around until I'm sure the elastic is snug enough to keep his pants up while he's climbing all over the place - LOLSometimes that's more than 2 inches, sometimes less.
