I feel the pain of the people who own that house. I had a builder do an extension at my place and not only did he use incompetent tradies like these, he actually told me how bad they were going to be before they arrived. His thing through the entire build was to have tantrums when I asked him to fix things. His biggest tantrum - apart from when I sacked him - was when he tried to substitute MDF for the "hardwood or maple" stairs he quoted for. When the painters were leaving I pointed out that I could still see the plaster joins on the ceiling and they told me they left me the rest of the paint so I could paint anything they missed. The painters were both alcoholics who started to get the shakes about lunchtime and left the job after about four hours each day. The plaster was so bad he never sanded the plaster on the ceiling and at night I can see bumps where most of the nails are. The builder was without doubt the dumbest person and most incompetent person I've ever met.
The one and only functionality for all licences in Australia is taxation. The government sacked all the data cabling inspectors two decades ago, replacing it with a clause in cabling licences requiring cablers to dob each other in or risk losing their own licence - which will literally never happen given that there are no inspections. Now the elec-data-hvac clowns trash every single data job and have zero oversight. Just one example of dozens and dozens.

Dodgy workmanship is an effect, not a cause. There are many root causes, including under supply of housing for a rapidly growing city and little to no regulation. We rented in an apartment in Applecross for 4 years and watched the 28 storey apartment block being built next door. The shoddy workmanship that we saw every day was hair-raising. Pouring slabs in torrential rain, patching huge holes in conrete walls with expanding foam, pouring concerete piles and then jack-hammering them into shape. All of this quite out in the open. Then a sudden rush to 'completion' whereby people were moving into the building while the top floors were being constructed. You can't tell me the place was fire-certified before occupancy. The state government are asleep at the wheel and letting this stuff happen
@scorpi1756 It's not racist if people from a particular area in the world have a reputation for poor quality. If you actually looked online at what has been happening in China, you'd learn a thing or two and not get so offended by a fact.
After 3 years and 2 roofs you would be feeling relaxed and comfortable moving into one of your life's biggest investments lol I just can't believe how bad that was or the nerve of the builder
@robertgeddes511 gotta love owner builders, I guess 7 years learning my trade and obtaining my open builders licence was a waste, don't tar everyone with the same brush. I love Owner Builders, I make a lot more on remedial work.🤣🤣🤣 You guys watch the block for a season and know everything
A couple years ago I bought a house in Perth that was built in 2010 and a lot of the problems in this vid are present in my house. I've been slowly getting tradie's around to touch up things I can't do myself and majority of the time they fix the underlying problem poorly and leave more problems. Shit like chips out of skirting, larger than necessary holes for cabling leaving gaps, chips and scuff marks on my decking (they literally just have to walk over it, it doesn't need work done). I had a tiler come in to re grout a small wall of tiles and there's now visible scratches on the tiles themselves from his tools. I could go on.. Edit: this is after researching and getting 3-4 quotes from 4.8-5 star average review companies.
Disgusting. Having said that, I have been in the Perth building industry for 30 years and one thing which has been consistent is the lack of buyers actually checking out the builder before signing up. They imagine it’s like buying a washing machine, where it doesn’t really matter who is selling it. Don’t get me started on the complete lack of Building Commission inspections. In 30 years I have heard rumours of 1 council inspection and 1 Building Commission inspection. I’ve been involved with all the major builders and many smaller ones, from being a trade to a GM. Over 15000 houses at some level.
@ my suggestion is to ask the sales consultant for examples of buildings at site which can be visited, and recommendations from friends and family, and one’s network. With the amount of money being spent, the process of choosing a builder should be over many weeks and with many examples of previous happy clients. Only then should the price be considered. Many people, perhaps including the client in this video, spent zero effort in determining whether the builder is reputable and will deliver the quality. There are no trustworthy online sources, as they are all corrupted by fake reviews.
100% name and shame they need to be sut down. I wouldn't get them to build a chicken pen. Need to be shut down and fined for every job they have ever done. Ruining people's lives
number 1 rule for me - never build. absolute nightmare every time i hear stories of people buying off the plan. buy established, or rent until you find one.
Why can’t we name and shame? This is disgusting . Shame, shame. The insurers scream about window locks, but the repairs that this place will need will cost big bucks in time, if insurers will cover it.
Yeah!! Lets bring in more foreign trades, because their work is outstanding.. No pride,no accountability, and little to no training. Hey but its all good. The government says so.
Yup, because of the profit. Lower standards = quicker build times = faster turnover = more Stamp duty and CGT for Govt. per unit of builder. Then the owner spends the next X years "stimulating the economy" (plus giving the man more Tax in GST) paying for parts and labor fixing the mess.. The only loser is the poor sucker stuck with the faulty home, and that's okay because we only exist to print money anyway!
f*ck me that is terrible! it looks like some of the new butler houses going up, my mum rents out that ways and we’ve had to fix bits of the house even though they’re relatively new. That house however needs a complete rebuild! thanks for making videos like this, it really keeps people aware of what a house is supposed to NOT be like. cheers.
It's the same on the east coast. External training organisations that only require to see photos of proff of doing works to get trade certificates. The training is so poor so the out come is dreadful tradies. But when the clients biggest purchase is given to the cheapest builder you will get what you pay for.
The only fix for that is to jackhammer it all out and start over. Leveling it with cement will just cause the surface to lift in a few years, if not sooner.
Oh well... what do we expect? Its like this thru out the country especially in NSW, Vic & Qld. Buildings are slapped up (called built) to be pulled down and replaced within 20 yrs although some don't even last that with water ingress going inside being one of the main problems. But it's about turnover. Sell something that cosmetically looks nice and "modern" and the hapless owner gets suck with the rectification costs. Unfortunately most people these days don't know what a good build looks like and of course rely on the "experts". In Victoria, the building authority - VBA- supposedly regulating building construction wasn't worth shit. Absolute useless. I am an owner builder (among other things) and have schooled myself up on how to build effectively when I occasionally do it. It takes longer but end result is always good. Personally I would not buy a newly constructed place ( unless I was involved at all stages) but these days people have no choice. It's a gamble whatever you do. Quality tradesmen are not the norm. If they speak understandable english -that's a plus. Most go in and out as fast as they can - cant blame them because the builder wants to finish asap (if they can) . For many reasons, this country is stuffed ( Thanks LNP, namely Howard and the housing crisis he started). Shit construction is just a symptom.
ill happily name and shame, Celebrations built mine 7 years ago and took offence at me getting a building inspector in before I took handover. They found major defects in the roof and the builder insisted they would not fix it until after handover.... They lost that fight. Within 6 months I had cracks running between all cornices and walls in every room and one cornice split almost an inch. "Thats normal" they said, we will fix it in 6 months. Which they did and a month later it split again. That goes hand in hand with the windows not being sealed into the brick work. One of the walls had large bumps sticking out, like hills and they said they couldn't fix it. They also did non compliant paving to the door which had to be redone as they made it not just aesthetically ugly but not meeting the accessibility requirements. They also left a heap of rubbish on the site including 3m strips of pallet banding, nails, cable scraps. They have only gotten worse as they are able to get away with it, who prosecutes them and regulates them, the same organisations which they pay and the government they pay off.
What happens in these situations? Can the home owner pull out? Does the local council or government force the builder to rectify the issues? Does the owner have to pay in full? So many questions when i see these kind of videos.
How can these builders still be trading. When is the government going to grow some and take away these dodgy builders licenses. They should not be aloud to trade. Like you said someone’s hard earned money going down the drain. This makes me sick. Especially if you’re a tradie. They should know better. Absolutely disgusting. This industry requires heavy regulation it happens to often. There’s my rant. Thanks for exposing builders like this.😢

Not just this government, this didn’t just start, not even in the last decade, it been going on for years!
Chinese style .. Cool and Normal.
Halt the immigrants.
Who's a racist idiot then? Tell us who are the builders!
@@scorpi1756 Well they are certainly NOT Italian, British or Australian.
@scorpi1756
It's not racist if people from a particular area in the world have a reputation for poor quality.
If you actually looked online at what has been happening in China, you'd learn a thing or two and not get so offended by a fact.
After 3 years and 2 roofs you would be feeling relaxed and comfortable moving into one of your life's biggest investments lol
I just can't believe how bad that was or the nerve of the builder
Building in AU is in complete crisis - lack of resources, lack of quality of work
This is why I went owner builder and built my house my self because I don't trust the building industry.
Brother in law did the same, what is once bitten...
@robertgeddes511 gotta love owner builders, I guess 7 years learning my trade and obtaining my open builders licence was a waste, don't tar everyone with the same brush. I love Owner Builders, I make a lot more on remedial work.🤣🤣🤣
You guys watch the block for a season and know everything
Good luck finding competent tradies in W.A
Government needs to protect consumers. The watch dog, has no teeth. Absolutely useless .
@@BudoReflex where do you go to find out dud builders in Australia?
Sorry for my ignorance.
@@BudoReflex thank you.
100% name and shame they need to be sut down. I wouldn't get them to build a chicken pen. Need to be shut down and fined for every job they have ever done. Ruining people's lives
It’s pretty clear that the builder just doesn’t give a damn, and needs to be brought to account! Who was it?
number 1 rule for me - never build. absolute nightmare every time i hear stories of people buying off the plan. buy established, or rent until you find one.
Let us know who this builder is so we can avoid them.
And that's why my 1989 home is still standing without no problem
You gotta love the earth stake directly under the outside tap hahaha
Does western Australia have a building and construction commission to report this to?
DMIRS - WA Building Commission
All I can say is Faaaaaaaaaark
That garage floor is unbelievable
The only fix for that is to jackhammer it all out and start over. Leveling it with cement will just cause the surface to lift in a few years, if not sooner.
@@8proud-dad325 I hope the owner owns a 4WD
Oh well... what do we expect?
Find the builder then lose the builder, about 30 nautical miles out to sea
Yea no-one ever really wants to walk away from a build but the builder's really need to get their act together on this one
The concrete garage floor was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli.
ill happily name and shame, Celebrations built mine 7 years ago and took offence at me getting a building inspector in before I took handover.
I would like to see a video of a house where the construction was done right (if such a thing exists today)
Should be deregistered
Good on you mate. Excellent work
This is an assault on someone's finances and dreams.
Thanks for exposing builders like this.😢
The work experience kid was doing his best, okay?!
As with all houses, what is the Gyprock hiding ?
When developers and politicians talk about cutting red tape and speeding up supply, is this the type of red tape they mean? Seems to me more red tape means less blue tape! 😏😎
Who are these builders??
Expose them, so people can avoid this terrible company!
Worked around this game for years , and the things I've seen would make ya blood boil . It's been so bad for so long
What a total disgrace. Owner needs to take legal action for this mess
5:40 Looks like they used a bowling ball for a trowel...
Ha ha funny!!
All of these shoes should be naming and shaming the worst and praising quality builders to help aussies get value for money.
Scary getting a 'tradie' in Perth at the minute. Its like a box of chocolates.
Name and shame - this is criminal
