30:05 Trivia question
Peter says: I love the Springboks and rugby is one of my favourite sports. Although as a sports journalist I am supposed to remain neutral, I always like to point out that before I became a professional, I was just a big fan! I hold a Masters Degree in International Journalism so at least you know I should be able to ask a good question or two! My dream is to do this UA-cam Channel permanently. what a legend! well over 150 caps for the Sharks across competitions.
I recall him speaking about his experience with and dealing with anxiety which was really good.
humble, open, grounded, personable - just a nice guy
A legend indeed. So here's a fun story: I called him about six months ago and he asked me to call again at a later stage. I did and he was more than happy to honour his word and grant me the interview. There are some guys who would say that and then just ignore you after that but not AJ! Top class guy, top class player. I'm so pleased I could get him on the show.
Seems like a seriously good person. The way he sees things, is very different and refreshing. Nice interview.
Top man! Top player and a top guest too!
Really enjoyed AJ's punditry on the telly....I noticed AJ didn't touch on his day's under Laurie Mains at Transvaal which caused a bit of a stir at the time on his sudden move to Natal.
Yeah he's a great guy with an excellent on-screen presence. The main reason we didn't touch on the Laurie Maines stuff is because these interviews are only about the players and their Springbok careers.
I think you might have seen a couple of months ago I did a special series with Andre Joubert, Corne Krige, Kobus Wiese, Ollie Le Roux and Mark Andrews where we spoke specifically about their Currie Cup and Super 12 careers. So maybe in future I might do that for AJ as well. Let's see what happens!
AJ looks young enough to still make the team. Very well spoken.
He looks more like 35 than 50, doesn't he?
What excellent English for a booitjie from Bloem. I think he is the only Springbok from HTS school.
Excellent indeed!
From Bethulie!
Yes!
@@Ash0010 I did not know that. As with many great Free State players he was stolen by a union with lots of money.
Yes, many of the great Free State players end up in Durban.
nice open fresh guy
Yeah he was great. I am so happy I could get him on the show. I actually asked him a while back and he asked me to please come call again in six months. I did and he stuck to his word which also tells you volumes about his character!
Great guy, great guest and a great player too!
What a lekker interview that was!
Thanks Francis. Really glad you enjoyed it!
Wales was the other pool opponent at RWC 11
Spot on, Sean.
@@frontrowrugby top interview Peter! I was s big fan of AJ- he should've played more tests! A very versatile forward who could play lock, flank & no8!
Thanks Sean. Yes I always thought loose forward was his best role but versatility kept him in Bok colours in other positions too!
Wales?
Quite right, BB!
Could you include some applicable footage. Too much non stop verbiage.
Hi Johan. Yes, that would be great but unfortunately there are all kinds of rights and copyright issues that come into play. I know there are channels that include old match footage but when you use that stuff you run the risk of being demonitised, having the video removed and in some cases your channel can even be delisted.
AJ should have played a lot more for the boks. More talented than Juan Smith.
AJ was a great player. The most surprising thing for me was that it took until 2000 for him to make his Test debut. Could easily have been playing for the Boks as early as 1997 I believe.
