    So I JUST got home from the shop after painting my exhaust. I used 3 cans of Rustoleum High Heat on my 2n1 Vance and Hines. I watch your video and you did 4 coats I am thinking maybe I over did it? I'm talking like 15 coats! did I make it better or screw it up? lol oh and 0 drips by the way that paint is good stuff.

      🤣🤣 awesome! More is better! How did it turn out in the end? Holding up good? Mine could use another coat, but mainly because I took it to the car wash and hit it with the high pressure hose. Don't do that, by the way. Won't end up well for you. Just took my newest exhaust to be ceramic coated and pick it up in a few days. Can't wait to see the results on that one. I did that with my pipes which were already black but needed a new paint job bad.
    I tried vhf paint and also the Rust-Oleum high temp bbq paint and they both flaked off badly after a week.

    Great video. Those pipes underneath though! Did they get shipped across the bottom of the Pacific on their way over from Hawaii? That just seems like a ton of rust to me. My Sampson Ripsaws are just discolored under the shields after 10+ years.

    • @RSWarriorBryan
      @RSWarriorBryan  5 років тому

      🤣🤣 they were pretty rusted up underneath. They were still pretty solid though. I had to tap into them to be able to screw the heat shields back on, and it was harder than I thought it was going to be. Probably should have had them blasted to remove it, but I'm indecisive and those new Graffeo exhausts are looking pretty good. Thanks for watching Kent! Stay safe brother!

    Bryan, what was your honest opinion of the Cobra exhaust? I've had several other kinds/brands on mine. I bought the Cobra exhaust today for mine from Summit Racing (on sale for $588) although it ships directly from Cobra. Anyways, just wanted a first-hand opinion from someone who has ran it for a while.

    • @RSWarriorBryan
      @RSWarriorBryan  5 років тому +1

      I actually really liked the exhaust. First off, it flows with the bike's design on my opinion and just looks good. It wasn't terribly loud, which I'm sure my neighbors appreciated as well. Personally, I want something like the long shots when I sell the Speedstar. I ran the Cobra Swept without baffles from day one. I put them back in shortly before selling them and there was definitely a noticeable difference. Overall, I don't think you'll be disappointed in the purchase. My only complaint was that I wished they were a little louder. Thanks for watching and hope that helps out a little on what to expect.

    • @s.in.bagger9933

      @@RSWarriorBryan Awesome brother! I don't necessarily need super loud pipes as I've had a couple sets on mine that were almost too much for long trips. I ran the V&H big shots without baffles and LOVED the way they sounded. I just didn't care for the stepped look. I completely agree about the Cobra flowing with the look of the bike. I should've bought them a long time ago, but every time I'd look they wanted too much. If I added up all the money I've wasted on other systems I could've bought 2 sets by now. I'm currently running the Morton's Executioners and the sound is ok, it's not the deep rumble like I was hoping for, however they are loud. I will say that I won't ever do business with Morton's again. Their raked triple trees are great, and I love they way they look, but their exhaust systems are cheaply made with poor materials and no care to quality. For $600 I expected them to be perfect but I had to invest an additional $40 into new flanges, better head collars and I had to fix/reweld the rear mount that was 3/8" off. Needless to say I was very disappointed and upset. I appreciate your honesty and your opinion, I feel even better about my purchase now. Ride safe my friend and keep up the great videos.

      @@RSWarriorBryan I got the exhaust installed last night. I did customize the baffles. As you already know on the stock baffles that come with the pipes there is a cone shaped end cap and a blocking plate midway through the baffle. I used a step bit and drilled a 3/4 hole through the cone end and used my plasma cutter to cut the welds out holding the flat cap in place and removed them. I then reinstalled the baffles. The sound was absolutely amazing. I really love the super deep thump of the exhaust. With the modded baffles, cylinder coefficientcies set at 7 rear/6 front, and a custom tune I made it had no popping and a smooth rumble on decel. I couldn't be happier with these pipes.

      Hey brother, thanks for watching and commenting. The pipe held up well, until I hit it with a pressure washer at the car wash. It has a few chips in the finish now. I've since installed a new set, and actually took them and had them ceramic coated. If I had to do it all over again, I'd pay to have them done. It was a total of 150, he did all the prep work, it has a warranty, and I know it's gonna last. They look like a brand new set and I couldn't be happier. If you're looking for something to just get you by, or a cheap way to do it, this will definitely work, but in this case I think you're going to get what you pay for. Hope that helps a little bit. Thanks for watching and commenting. I am lucky enough to live just outside of a decent sized city that offers a lot of stuff like that. Have you tried to contact any powder coaters in your area? Most of the time they will also do the ceramic coating on the side, or offer a high temp powder coating option for exhausts and car headers. May end up having to look to a bigger city, depending on where you're from, but hopefully that will help to point you in the right direction.

    I'm planning to paint my speedstar exhaust this week but I also want to wrap them. Do you know if I wrap the heat shields or just the actual pipes and leave off the heat shields? Also is removing the foot controls necessary to get it off. I have the same exhaust

    • @RSWarriorBryan
      @RSWarriorBryan  5 років тому

      Man, that's a hard one. I've heard of cracks happening when you wrap the heat shield of an exhaust, but the speedstar exhaust would be pretty ugly and no way of really holding it in place without the shields. Since the back support bracket bolts to the shield, you'd have to make something else to work. I'd probably try and wrap with them with the shields on myself, but not sure that's what I'd recommend to someone else. Most of the times you'd have no problem, but I'd hate to give you an answer and then have a problem happen.
      As far as the right side controls, usually it's necesarry to remove them or at least loosen them up. Just not enough room to slide it out. It's only two Allen bolts below the foot pegs. You don't have to worry about brake lines or anything like that.
      Sorry I couldn't give you a really good answer about the exhaust wrap. Thanks for watching and commenting though. Stay safe!

    • @dknine99

      @@RSWarriorBryan yea brother when I ordered the wrap I didnt know that the exhaust had heat shield thought it was straight pipe. I'll just paint it and save the wrap if I ever swap out. I know I'm SUPER late to this, but just in case it would help anyone else that reads through this...
      I bought a Speedstar Gen II exhaust that already had some chrome stripped. I ended up paying someone to finish the job with Cerakote Glacier Black. I liked it well enough, but is a bit too matte for my taste. I haven't addressed it yet as that's not what this comment is about.
      While it was being Cerakote'd, I applied exhaust wrap to the pipes that are under the heat shields. I learned a few things:
      1. You can't wrap the muffler part very well due to clearance between the pipe and shield.
      2. Don't wrap it all the way up to the heads as the wrap acts as a shim and prevent the heat shield from moving around during installation so it's a HUGE pain to get mounted.
      3. After about 6 months, I decided to remove it out of concern for it rusting my pipe. Sure enough, there was plenty of rust starting to form at the bottom of the front pipe (low spot near the foot rest).
      4. I couldn't tell the difference from running it with the wrap vs without.
      I had a ZX-6R years ago that I wrapped and it made a HUGE difference with regards to the amount of heat radiated and how smooth power rolled on. It also made the exhaust a little quieter and more consistent of a tone verses without the wrap. I did rust through two headers, though, so it definitely was to the detriment of the pipes. Given how hard it is to come by good pipes for Warriors, I knew I couldn't run the risk of rusting out my Speedstar.
      In the end, I'm super glad I removed the wrap and wouldn't consider doing it again unless I had a bike that was never going to see water AND had plenty of replacement parts available.
