Nordisk Svalbard 1si One person tunnel tent Garden review

  • Its Lockdown, plus the other video I posted about this tent did not look at the details. So if you are looking for a highly wind resistant one person tent, consider this one.
    I really like it, great quality materials, cant wait to try the Nordisk Svalbard 1si tent in some rough weather.
    Update 2021 : the tent was returned to Nordisk and a full refund issued after some problems with adhesion of the tape on the groundsheet.
    Nordisk addressed the issue inside of the two year warranty. Keep the receipt, enjoy the tent and keep and eye on the tapes.

    I have owned this tent now for 3 years , with no issues , I love the thing, I also have a hilleberg soulo which was 3x the price and yes it is better but is a fair bit more weight and money it's my go-to winter tent, the Nordisk is for the other 3 seasons , but I would still not discount it for winter use it's as strong as the hilleberg but not as warm "Great tent" if I had not owned the soulo first I wouldn't of purchased it 😊 (I will say there are still a lot of good points for a soulo if you have the budget and you get your use out of it 👌) (just bear in mind the Nordisk is inner pitch first)

In S.E.Asia.. The rain volume comes down in buckets .. Everything gets saturated ... Outer pitch 1st is a must...

    Hi was looking for a tent and just got one of these after watching this great in depth video. Have now got it and noticed that it recommends seam sealing the seals if you plan on using it in really wet conditions. Did you seal the tent while having it ? And if not did you have any leaks ? Keep up the good work thanks👍

      @Fellmandave1  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, had no leaks, but never used it in very wet conditions. I did have a problem with the taping on the groundsheet.( but no leaking) I sent it back to Nordisk who acknowledged the fault and gave me full refund. Thats why I now have the scarp one. The Nordisk is a great tent though, if a bit flappy along the walls. Thanks for the encouragement.

  • @shabingly

    Just bought this (thanks for the look around & saying how tall you are, seeing that just tipped me into getting it).
    Personally going to seal the fly seams (it's a well known fact I just made up that UK rain is at least 30% wetter than all other rain), but from putting it up in the loft (don't ask) it looks pretty bomb-proof and the inner pitch first which put me off a little before buying seems reyt, only took 60 odd seconds to get the poles in, "pegged" with weights and the fly on.
    If it's bucketing down I'd potentially put fly upside down, inner upside down on top and do it that way. Probably give that a bash in the dry first though.
    Ta!

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Andy, thats a good thought with the upside down pole insertion part. With the inner material being so robust though I think it would take a smidgen of rain. The only bit i find a pain is the velcro tabs to attach the outer.
      Happy camping

    Thanks for the review. I’m looking for a 1st tent (with no experience) and the more I look, the more confused I get. Now that you have had the tent for a while, what is your opinion? What I like about this tent is a) it is relatively light but seems rugged, b) although 1 man there does seem to be enough room for your gear to be inside the tent (I’ve been looking at 2 man tents). What about condensation?

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  3 роки тому

      Hi Peter.
      Yes, definitely rugged. A little more room would be good, but I have the dog too. Condensation has not been an issue, but have not used it yet in max condensation conditions i.e cold and damp with little wind. That should be coming soon. For the money I would buy it again, but with a bigger budget, I would go for the tarptent Scarp 1. On my wish list. Cheers and let me know what you get.

      @@petermullan5852 Never had an MSR, but have steered clear as a lot of the American tents, including the Hubba Hubba, seem to meshy for me. But I dont like the drafts unless I can choose to zip it up. I sold the vaude mark2 L for that reason.
      My preference though had always been for cooler weather camping too. One exception I have been interested in is the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV2 Expedition. Getting a bit more pricey and heavier though, plus inner pitch. Have you looked at the Lightwave range?

    • @petermullan5852
      @petermullan5852 3 роки тому

      @@Fellmandave1 Dave, thanks,
      . I looked at the Lightwave tents - very impressive. I am thinking that, given my lack of experience, I will go for the Svalbard. It’s bigger than other 1p tents, it’s not too heavy, and it’s ability to deal with wind is reassuring. I was looking at 2 man tents just for the extra room. It seems as if it would be a good starting point and if I get on well then I could look at a 2 man. I always thought that choice was a good thing until I started researching tents - my head is bursting. Is the Svalbard likely to be too hot (looking at all the mesh on the American tents as you already mentioned.). Any comments or advice welcome.

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  3 роки тому +2

      @@petermullan5852 Well there is no one 'do it all' tent. Conditions , terrain, people, weight and design all play a part. Thats why I currently have quite a few. I would call the svalbard a british high country tent where it is rarely 'hot' . The type of tents that tackle that area better are the double door ones. I prefer mesh to be minimal if it is permanent with an ability to tune the area via zippable solid flaps over it.

    I just got this tent and footprint, looking great! One concern is the location of the seams on the groundsheet, I have read elsewhere that some people have had issues with the tape coming loose. Have you had any issues with the groundsheet? Also, is this really a 'wind king'? Thanks.

    • @mezmerya5130
      @mezmerya5130 3 роки тому

      seams on the groundsheet never fail first on a premium tent, unless it's warranty call. First things to fail are bathtub roll or corners. Tape may come loose if you dont store you tent properly, as floor is usually PU covered and they dont like being stored wet. It's a wind king as long as you pitch it along the wind. Sideways stability is sad at best, nowhere close to semi godesic tents like naturehike cloud up, hilleberg suolo\allak, ferrino force or helsport rainsfjell.
