    That's some really awesome footage of the crabs stalking the pots. As for the gaffer, I'd suggest that in this day and age, people are more likely to sink their pots rather than use floats. You and I know that pot raiders are way too common nowadays.

    • @BrisVegasFishing

      You’re exactly right we both know that’s the only way to beat share farming. Still cool seeing how the crabs are interacting with the pots and it definitely shows that they’re not always interest in bait.

    I learned many years ago that sadly, share farming was becoming commonplace. When I was growing up, fishing around the Pine, there was a code of conduct that everyone followed. But as years went on and crab prices went up, thieves started raiding pots. I wouldn't move out of line-of-sight of pots anywhere nowadays, unless it was in the middle of nowhere up north.

      That’s a sad story mate. It’s a shame that’s what we’ve come too. I know if I’m out crabbing over a weekend I expect my pots to get checked. It’s not so bad if I’m working my pots and checking them pretty regularly I don’t worry too much.

    I went there during the week Josh and camped over, lost one pot when a big boat motored past where i was camped and cut the rope, but i did a lot of walking on the flats just exploring and got a good photo of two crabs having a noughty in a hole😊. I did walk one pot in to a little drain at low tide but only got two slightly undersize crabs. Ended up with one crab for the trip from the other pots, good one just under one and a half kilos but really enjoyed walking the flats. Took your advice and got a pair of those boots you use which are great. Cheers.

    A few years back I was lucky enough to work at a place on the Brissie River that had a pretty decent water frontage & lots of mangroves so I didn't need to have a boat or wander around on mudbanks to catch a muddy, it was about one of the only good things about working at that place as they were pretty big dicks. Anyway I found a tin of pet food with a few holes punched in it with some normal bait sent the crabs mental & during the season I was getting 1 to 3 crabs a day from 2 pots I still have some photos but learned to send the pics out " after " I had eaten the crabs as I suddenly had a lot of short term friends, lol. P.S One notable accidental catch was a bloody big eel, kept me in bait for a week, them's were the days, love your videos, cheers. P.P.S No I won't tell you where I worked.

    Poor bloke is probably sick of having his pots nicked. If he was up to no good i reckon he would have taken yours as well. When i was a youngster i used to sink the whole rope and use a grapple hook - never lost or had one nicked that way. Now i have a boat, i play by the rules. I don’t get the stupid rule for whole address on the tag thing though, the thieves get your address, you don’t have theirs.

    • @BrisVegasFishing
      @BrisVegasFishing  7 місяців тому +3

      Definitely could be something as innocent as that. He may even have a tag and rope to it, ya don’t have to use a float as long as the ID tag is above the high tide mark.
      I think everyone is a bit sick of the thieves these days, this time of year especially.

    Here in the southeastern United States we primary go after blue crabs or stone crabs. You’re only allowed to keep one claw from the stone crabs and then they go back. Pot thieves are really bad here. In the 1970’s one fella kept stealing the crabs. A crusty old crabber caught him and shot two holes through the bottom of the guys boat. No one saw him stealing crabs again.

    Shanghaied into crabbing one night on the Fitzroy by an elderly local mate, I asked him to remind me how I could' tell the bucks from the jennys and he told me the jennys were the ones that don't turn red after y cook em. Lucky I took the torch down his back yard to the loaded pots by the river just after dark, they were covered in huge glistening bullants I mostly scraped off with a big stick and turfed into the drink.Only after I came back later with half a doz big bucks did he tell me there were crocs in the river.

    Hi very interesting. I have crabed that area for a long time and it is good to see life there, all though I would not eat the crabs from that area as all those houses in that area have septic tanks and the runoff goes into the under ground water system and runs out in the creeks. If you want to chase crabs go deep into the channels that is where the big ones are.😎

    • @BrisVegasFishing

    What do you mean by empty crab

    • @BrisVegasFishing
      @BrisVegasFishing  6 місяців тому

      So basically when they go through a shell change, they deplete all of their muscle when forming a new shell and obviously becoming bigger. This makes them empty and they then have to feed to gain all the muscle that they lost in the process. So generally when you get an empty crab they will be soft and lethargic.

    Check this out Bro u take the time to show in detail how the crab enter the pot and you kept 3 or 4 crab but # what's the purpose of catching them isn't to enjoy the tasty meat that only true crabers know how to clean and cook them and everyone usually has good recipes so without the catch clean and cook your videos are no different than anyone else's except those who take the time to film longer and show in detail, like you did with the crab entering the trap, again the goal is to catch a limit take them home and eat them so by not showing to me the most important is the eating
