Spindle Carver Introduction

- I only learned about Spindle Carvers a few months ago and then one came up on Craigslist! I really didn't 'need' it, but I contacted the guy anyway... and... well, it's now in my shop!
Here's a bit of an introduction to the this wonderfully dangerous and somewhat frightening piece of super-fun woodworking equipment.
I'll be posting a lot more about this monster - it's so bizarre and actually quite useful for some tasks. - Навчання та стиль
Back in the 40's,50's,60's in Hawaii, this was used to carve the monkeypod trays and leaf platters. And of course, they were used in the Philippines as the monkey pod tourist trade expanded during that same period of time.
I work in a woodcarving factory as a wood carver and this was used to clean up our line make them sharp and clean
Way cool!
I wished I had a use for it, but I don't do carving, nor hand rails, etc
It is an amazing machine- the cutters are super cool the way they cut but don't 'self-feed'
@@charlescfap I remember they had alot of different bits
still use this machine today along with hand carving gouges and chisels , over 30 yrs experience , watch your fingers seen lots loose them in shops

I couldn't see myself using it enough to actually get good at it, and I feared the 'learning curve'!
Have you found the duplicator, or copy carvers?
Nice vid, Charles. If I may, where can you get the cutterheads? I'm looking into buying a Porter no. 5 Single spindle carver and can't find cutterheads ANYWHERE! Any help is greatly appreciated.
Anthe Machine Works made the machine i played with. An they make those cutters and are still in business!

look for carving rail components you can watch how i carve them on this machine
