- This is Erik Satie's Gnossienne 1 - the main theme from The Painted Veil movie. I performed this after 3,5 years of learning to play the piano.
Not yet as subtle as I want it to be, but I will let the piece get mature with time. It took me two evenings to learn & memorize the scores, a week to lead this to this stage.
This is my absolute favourite version of this beautiful piece of music. It flows with such ease.
Other musicians interpretations always seem so forced so as to make their mark, but this performance shows an amazing piece of work and fantastic piano skills at the finest. Thanks.
finally a smooth interpretation, best version i've heard!
After downloadig the score to this piece I just had the Samick tuned to hear my niece 12 years old, play , after one year , pieces I struggled with for years! She can't read a note, Has one of those electrononic things, Debussy, Mozart, Beethoven etc. I grappled with "THE BIG RED BEAST" for 15 years and she brings me to my knees!!!!! playing these works. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!! Willy
Bravo pour cette interprétation pleine de douceur et de mélancolie !
It is the most beautiful music I have heard...Nothing else stands a chance against this beautiful piece...Its so unique and new yet it feels so familiar...
Wow...Erik Satie had created something out of the world...:)
This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
Vous savez ce qui nous plaît dans ce sublime opus, c'est un pur produit du génie musical français.
Juste la perfection.
Merci Erik.
Thanks to all for comments! Re piano - this is Yamaha CLP 230, but the sound itself comes via MIDI from Steinberg The Grand 2 VST
Precioso tema, es como si mostrara un pasaje dramático en la vida... está lleno de sentimiento. Genial!!!
Excellent. I will attempt to learn this, I was really glad to see an example of someone playing it well. Thx.
Watched tons of pianist play this piece, none can be compared to this video ❤️ keep up
Excellent job. I admire your artistry and ability to translate feeling. Best version I've seen yet on UA-cam. You should be proud.
For some reason, every time I hear this piece, it reminds me of some sort of battlefield.
This truly is a masterpiece.
Wow, incredible interpretation. Your performance will be saved on my hard drive and viewed time and time again as I learn to play this. Thank you.
Yeah, I too love this song so much and I listened to many performances and this is my absolutely favorite one on whole UA-cam. And I learned playing it watching this video. Thank you so much for wonderful performance!
You clearly have a gift so keep on using it. As Beethoven apparently said to Liszt "You go on ahead. You are one of the lucky ones! It will be your destiny to bring joy and delight to many people and that is the greatest happiness one can achieve"'.
This is awesome! Keep up the good work.
' am a BIG FAN of Gnossiennes No. 1 and to your Play i need to say,you have did a Really Really good Job at it❗.
... Proud....
Not one single mistake...brilliant. Makes me wanna learn it...actually I will:). Keep up the good work.
I DO beleive that that deserves a large round of applause at the end !!
I can feel it. Yes.
Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!!
I'm 15 and I can enjoy this. Beautiful!
Wonderfull interpretation. As good as any I have yet heard.

Very Beautiful.
Really beautiful playing.... lentement et doux. Merci
fan-bloody-tastic. thanks for posting
Absolutely gorgeous.
I love this version. It is the only one that I think is right and I use this tempo when I play it as well. So beautiful
Good and nice and a great sound. Easy piece for the brain (not to much notes) but difficult for the feeling. Chapeau !
Hi arturm75! I very much like your performance of all the songs you posted. I was also born in 1975, as you can see from my login, and I also live in Warsaw, Poland. I started playing about three years later than you - exactly one year ago now. I plan to post some simple pieces in near feature. Looking forward to your new recordings :)
Very emotional

Haunting....Simply haunting and beautiful... Beautifully haunting, hauntingly beautiful... This piece is so beautiful, gives me chills. Amazing interpretation.

great playing and great sound thanks!
1:35 Shh, nobody noticed ;)
Me... and more than this time, the is some notes that don't sound at all.
beautiful!
Awesome bro !!
i been looking for that track since the first time i watched the movie "Revolver" at last i found it now i can die in peace :)
awesome! i'm really impressed!..
Perfect!
It is known as a, "grace note". Usually shown on music as a small version of said note or more often is a choice made by the musician to add personal feeling to their rendition. You may even find their usage varies widely over the same piece of music.
Really enjoy hearing this beautiful piece of music being played so well. Always get a lump in my throat tho'
So deep! ♥
this is excellent
wow, well played
Sencillamente bello!
muuito bom!! very good! congratulations! parabens! você conseguiu interpretar muito bem!!!
best version on YT
ERIK SATIE (1866 - 1925) , compositor francés
Gnossienne Nº1 ( pianista desconocido )
Estupenda versión sin acelerarse ni ir deprisa , ni machacar el piano con demasiada potencia a ratos ¡¡Enhorabuena !!
I even like it more then original. Perfect!
beautiful interpretation! I would be careful not to make it too triplet-y, but otherwise, bravo! very enjoyable
This is fucking amazing.
Very nice indeed, could you do the other Gnossienne pieces ?
wow, perfect sound, perfect video quality and perfect playing.
can you tell me which piano you have?
♬. .. dancing on air ... ✩✫✬✭✮
totally agree
peaceful
wow
perfect playing. can you play also gnossienne 3?
Sort of haunting isn't? When are you going to post more?
You really have the knack for the tempo to fit what I'm sure the composer intended.,
I haven't seen the Painted Veil but this piece is featured prominently in the film Chocolat. Great performance btw, going through the computer with the midi file of the grand piano is very cool, just recently found out about it. Maybe there will be fewer terrible sounding microphone recordings!
sweet piano, what model is that?
Well done !! I've hurd this played fast, quite brashly and perhaps even a bit aggressively yoo but this, IMO, is at the right speed and each key is struck with the right weight & delicacy (leggato?)
Consider it favourited!
superbe et poignant
Certainement le plus beau morceau composé par Erik Satie, empreint de sincérité et d'amertume exquise......
i envy your talent.....
wow wow! you played that beautifully. I can see what you mean about the subtlety, but you'll get it! I don't have the sheet music, but are the quick notes to be played with appoggiaturas or acciaccaturas?
such a sad song..
Just lovely. Question, I don't know a lot about music. What is the name or musical term to describe or denote the slight note before the held note in this piece? Satie also uses it a few times in Gnoss. No. 3 Hope I am explaining that adequately. Thanks for posting and your time to answer if you can.
lindo! :')
Bravo. Better than the recording you can purchase on Amazon.
thought this would be an hard song to play for me but i see that you use for almost the whole song the same notes in the left hand, so im going to try this to
Wonderful... How do you use the pedal in this piece?
I responded to this vid 7months ago, twice in a minute, same text, sorry, The skills I lack at the Samick are similiar to those I lack at the computer. HOWEVER, after viewing a zillion readings of various performers,of works by variuos composers, the comments by listeners, I see that this piece seems to be universaly met with good replies, and in my humble opinion, this is PROPER! Thanx for the chances to have my say. William

This is very beautiful.
How about playing Comptine d'un autre été: L'après-midi - Yann Tiersen for us? If you like the piece, of course. :)
@arturm75
I have tried it, but for some reason pedals in my CLP 230 are making sounds when use steinberg - can I set it up some way, to use them in a proper way??
What does this piece make you think of? What story does the music tell? I'm really confused any ideas?
Sounds like Hakon Austbo's version... much slower and emotional reading, excellent work.
What piano are you using? I want to buy one.
@arturm75
Sorry, but i´m having a hard time understanding if this sound comes if from the piano itself or if you use a computer program. If you would be kind enough to take me out of my ignorance I would be very thankfull.
