- Liona plays the Eric Satie classic "Gymnopédie #1", (transcribed for guitar by Liona Boyd), from the video "Liona Boyd - Around The World". ©2000 Moston Productions. Visit Liona's Official Website: www.classicalguitar.com and her MySpace site: www.myspace.com/lionaboyd
Guitar is so expressive like no other instrument... most in the hands as Liona Boyd hands. Beautiful, relaxing... "Sublime"
This is such a beautiful song. so much emotion in the performance. it's sad the audio quality couldn't be better, but I'm glad I could here this nonetheless.
Great to find Liona Boyd finally. I first purchased a vinyl album of her playing this piece by Satie in 1981. Classical guitar music wasn't a big seller back then so finding it at 33 1/3 rpm was a score.
Beautifully filmed and exquisitely played. The best string version on You Tube. Thanks.
fantastic. the part with the harmonics is awesome.
Great to find Liona Boyd finally. I first purchased a vinyl album of her playing this piece by Satie in 1981. Classical guitar music wasn't a big seller at Tower Records (look it up) back then so finding it at 33 1/3 rpm was a score. Now I can mark this one off the "Bucket List". Life back in balance.
Excellent! She will be on our island this month performing
well, this is an example for a guitar player with an actuall talent, unlike so many people who think they are pro's, but all they can do is chords :) Thank you for uploading this :)
This is beautiful! Very skilled, but above all containing all the poetic and fragile qualities of the piece. How inspiring that the inner gnosis can be given a voice in this music. Thank you
I'd always listened to this beautiful song played by a piano or by an orchestra, but with this nylon guitar it is is so deep, so beautiful, it's wonderful. Thanks for posting this vieo.
Absolutely beautiful, I have never heard it played better.
I have heard this on piano and harp and it also sound so beautiful on the guitar.. Thanks for posting.
Outstanding. My guitar teacher just gave this piece for me to learn and it is so beautiful. Very nice sound on that classical guitar. Love it.
I never thought that Gymnopedie could sound so wonderful played by guitar!
I love both Liona Boyd and Georgia Simon, so talented and beautiful they are! Of course, technically, this is a very simple piece... yet, only a true master can play it with such a souplesse and perfect timing.
Thank you for posting, I appreciate the chance to teach myself this by watching. Sincerely, Kurt from Massachusetts.
you are amazing Ms. Boyd!!!!!!!!
tasteful, delicate, reverential. fab photography cinematography.
masterwork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one of my favs!greetings from Holland,Bram
A wonderful performance of this very beautiful piece - a moment of great pleasure!
Best wishes from Germany!
Maria
Absolutely beautiful................
Thank you, Liona!
Beautiful.
lovely stuff
This is probable the best guitar rendition I have heard of this Satie masterpiece. I regret you have disable the "thumb up" & comments?
Wonderful!
Thank you Mrs Boyd, that was beautiful.
Really beautiful. I'd be glad finding the tabs. Thanks for sharing :)
I found the tab for Gymnipedie No. 1, 2 & 3 in the March 1998 Guitar World...sounds pretty cool. May have to try this,
I had the pleasure to both hear Liona Boyd and talk to her when she played at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. I bought her album at the performance and she kindly autographed it for me. Her rendition of El Colibri (the Humming-bird) entranced everyone, which I think was her closing number . . . or at least most amazed me. She was so nice to everyone who approached her.
Lovely playing by a wonderfully skilled guitarist.
Wauw !!! I love it !!!
awesome!
i'm going to play this i'm going to play this i'm going to play thissssssss!!!! love her transcription!
beautiful performance and video!
I have her "Chariots of Fire" guitar piece and a few CDs! She's quite marvelous, especially since she transcribes the songs herself!
Those harmonics... awesome.
So very very beautiful...I must learn to play this one........... :-) Richard
Very well said. Thank you.
Wow she makes it look so easy. She really does justice to Satie; as well as everyone else she chooses to play.
Why the hell am I crying like a baby, this song is just amazing
so Beautiful
amazing
I think you just made this songs official music video. It was that beautiful.
video's a little freaky, but cool guitar version
Hermoso!
Que hermoso....es ud un virtuoso
@82240d: I do recall a photo of Liona and David Clayton Thomas (Blood, Sweat, and Tears) together at the Juno Awards in the 1970s. Thanks!
Hermosa adaptación!!!
que bello, y que manos tan relajadas...
She is soooooooo good!
Greatness
Nice to hear a real spanish made Guitar again.Ramirez... lovely
the tune of life
B ,Beautful!!! 素敵です
wonderfull
classclef . com has this song as well as Erik Satie's other musical pieces he composed. Classclef is by far my favorite place to find music-especially romantic/baroque/classical and flamenco music, that I want to learn. Very few pieces that I looked up were unavailable, and I've looked for many! It's free btw.
Pure talent
beautiful fingers.
very nice
Que segunda pasada le mete marcando armonicos, es espectacular.
@mrtamberineman123: That's a big plus to be 18 and have such a great influence. She definitely is an inspiration for sure. Thanks for your very nice post. --Stan--
@mrtamberineman123: Yes, she has released a lot of material. 22 CDs I think. It depends on what style you would like. I guess for classical I would recommend "Highlights" and "The Best of Liona Boyd". For Flamenco/Latin I would recommend "Camino Latino" and "The Spanish Album", for New Age, "Seven Journeys", "Dancing on the Edge", and "Persona". I just got "Seven Journeys", and really enjoy it.
@havcg1 : It's available on her website in the online store section, in either hard copy or PDF format. I'm surprised it's only $3.50.
Awesomeee.... :O
@lbedit: You're welcome, and thanks to Liona for sending it to me. Glad you appreciate. :-)
@warmingtone: I know and agree. This clip came from a mono VHS. Hopefully a digital version is in the works.
The San Francisco Chronicle called her "The guitar world's new superstar" and the New York Times praised her "flair for brilliance."
hermoso
Thanks a lot :D
心がささやかに、穏やかに震える
@marrowmeld: Oh okay. I never knew what "Ms" actually meant. Thanks for updating me on the proper terminology. :-)
OHmazing :D
i like this almost equally as the piano version for some reason it sounds just a deep...
His given name was Éric Alfred Leslie Satie. He later signed it as Erik Satie. You're both right.:)
@mrtamberineman123: You can listen to some of her music on Facebook, MySpace, and Reverbnation.
Thumbs Up.
@gitaristje007 Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. The transcription is available through her website for $3.50 in either hardcopy or PDFT format.
I must learn it
@7Somerset: Yes. It's on her website for $3.50.
This is as close as you can get to ballet on guitar, magical.
Wonderful. I would dearly love a better-quality version of this interpretation.
cool
I'm sure the sheet music is available on her website.
This is great. This arrangement isn't in her books is it? Anybody know where I can get this arrangement?
5 stars!!!
@sixstringedthing: Yes, I would too. Made it from VHS/Mono. No digital version yet. :(
@stanster69 if you both started now you could in 3 years, its not a difficult piece and all that is special is that she takes her time..'the music is between the notes'. no point wishing you were something else. shes also very attractive, that i can't help you with ;-)
beautiful piece...beautiful girl...
nice nice nice
@listeningiris: Me too!
@Mr5stevenr: You're welcome Steve. Being able to post these videos is a genuine privelege for me.
IS there one were she's playing No. 3?
I don't care much for the Artsy video, but the playing is good. Great tone too.
shit I nearly freaked out when her hands doubled... :S
I know and understand. The audio is very bad. Many have said this and it's true. It was made from a Mono VHS. Hopefully Liona will release a digital stereo version soon. :-)
@bbdude09 . No... "Mrs." means married, "Miss" means she is single. ;-)
Yes, I suppose I should change that one of these days. :-)
does any1 have her when she played at the queen elizabeth theatre in Vancouver?
