It was 1973. I was 13. I was convinced that suicide was the only path left to me. I heard a record of Neil. His music, with all of the instrumentals and profound lyrics locked me into a survival mode. Morningside, canta lebre,, the boat that I row, play me, suzanne, Years passed. I bought a guitar. Met a girl. She asked for a love song. I played Play Me. She later accepted my proposal. We have 2 children, gobs of grandchildren. Thank you Neil!
The unrivaled power of music to reach down into the depths of the human soul is, and always will be one of the most beautiful mysteries of life. Neil Diamond is one of the great ambassadors of this wonderful gift from God. Thank you for that touching story!
Sunday drives out to the country for dinner. My dad driving. My mom in the front seat. This on the 8 track. Every time I hear this I am back in that back seat, feeling safe, feeling loved, feeling at home. I’m 60 but I’m that little kid always.
I was born in 1960 Found Neil Diamond’s music when I was 13 and it’s been a great journey together. I’m 64 and still tear up with the songs. Thank you Mr. Diamond. ‘ play me’ is my most favorite but hell their all favorites.
My father loved Neil Diamond. He became Ill with diabetes and dementia. He was suffering and I was taking care of him. I found an old VCR tape of a Neil Diamond concert and would play it for him daily. I could see his demeanor change and he would relax and feel better when I played it for him. He never got tired of it and either did I. We played some of it at his funeral.
+Anna Hayes My dad passed away about 10 yrs ago from ALS. My dad never mentioned Neil Diamond but I think of him when I hear this song. And I think of islands on Canadian lakes covered with moss and cedars. If you've been on em you know what I mean.

He passed away a couple of years ago!Today I’m 38 years old and I listen to Neil Diamond songs just so I can go back to 1989 and remember those days when me and my dad listened to his songs together!
I feel your pain. My parents divorced in 1992 and I never had a relationship with my dad after that but I did speak to him briefly before he died. I often watch the old war movies by myself and remember a time as a kid that he would make me watch them with him, so that I could translate (he was a Greek migrant with limited English). But I digress. We had a next door neighbour called Pat. Salt of the earth, she was. Her husband was openly carrying on an affair with her best friend and in her hours of grief and loneliness, she would play Neil Diamond and I could hear her crying from next door. She died of a heart attack but each time I listen to Neil, I think of Pat. Neil's songs speak to us is so many ways.
His music was a solace for me when I was young. I survived a lot of abuse, and clung to these songs. Even in writing my stories, Neil was the model for the God of Music in the fantasy stories I was writing.

Like many of his songs, this brought me to tears. I’ve seen him live about twelve times. I’ve loved him for so many years. Long after he’s gone I will still listen to him and I will still cry.
This Neil guy fully understands, and sees through the very essence of a soul in love and in pain, truly getting it. And that's exactly what makes him a genius at lyrical writing. It's not just about rhyming, although he does have some mad rhymes, it's more about capturing that emotion most haven't figured out how to put into words. He's simply a genius.
Christopher Chambers I turned forty last month, and I know in the scope of things I'm still young, but some days I feel older than the hills. My mom is a Neil Diamond fanatic, so I was brought up right. I knew the words to most of his songs by ten years old.

My thoughts exactly...You wrote in just a few lines what I felt since first listening to him back in 1964 when I was 10 years old. And as a 65 year old man today. His music still inspires more today then when I was a 10 year old boy. Priceless!
I would have loved to have seen him in person also. When I was down, I put on one of his 33 1/3’s and felt better. Many a night I listened to him as I fell asleep. His lyrics are passionate, poetic, meaningful. They are ‘personal’ to so many! 🥰☺️
The first time I heard this song. I was 19 and My father passed two years before and I felt so alone and this song would soothe my broken nerves and ease my stress
I love this song. I love the way Neil describes himself and lover as objects of nature. "I am the moon you are sun" You're the words and I am the music Play me" His woman has moved him. I just love this song....I cry because it is so beautiful.
Absolutely love this song. It is so calming. The sweet lyrics, Neil's voice, and background music take me back to a time long ago when I was much younger. Such wonderful memories.

Neil Diamond was a special part of my life especially in the early 1970s! He played guitar & sang tunes that were just right in their softness, lyric beauty, & upbeat tempo. It was like audio sunshine ....... he swept loneliness away like an ocean wave clears the air. His music soothes multiple generations -- it speaks to us in some kind of wonderful universal context. Way to go, my friend! * Cav in OR *
Just love this music, always have. Makes me feel like getting out on the open road and travelling somewhere. I dont care what Bill Murray thinks, LOL, I'm in that portion of the crowd that loves Neil Diamond, a fan forever.
i am from 1968, i sing karaoke the most of the times if you know what i mean, the people are stunned, but this one remembers me on my yought as a child it makes me very relaxed and happy thank you niel❤
I've loved ND for over 40 years and I never heard this song before. My boyfriend sang this to me several months ago and I listen to it every time I come on UA-cam..... LOVE IT!!!
This was a personal favorite of my grandmother's. Just last night, this song came on the radio and my mother (also a huge Neil Diamond fan) turned it up. I hadn't heard this song in years, possibly since my grandmother was still alive 3-4 years ago. In that instant, my eyes swelled with tears and I had to excuse myself from the room. Such utter nostalgia this song carries.
I was watching this new tv show called Fleishman is in Trouble and they played this song while showing flashbacks of a couple's relationship. I couldn't get it out of my head, how could I have forgotten how beautiful it is.
Production value. When Neil Diamond truly grabbed a song, as he has done repeatedly, the production value was quintessential, always quintessential, and his voice lifted as an angel. Suzanne is my all time favorite.
This is true music; delivered by an outstanding artist whose music sounds as good now as it did so many years ago. I just love it even as we approach 2018!
I've always loved Neil. I don't listen to his music often, but it's a love that will never go away. This has long been a favorite. He knows how to tug at the heart and make you cry!
I love this son, It so perfectly describes the relationship between me and my late wife. She changed me, slowly making me into the man I wanted to be. "And so it was that I came to travel upon a road that was thorned and narrow, another place, another brace that saved me, You are the sun Iam the moon you are the words, I am the tune, Play me.

What a beautiful song. One of the best by Neil, and there are so many to choose from.
Neil Diamond at his best. So simple. So beautiful. So soothing.
My darling late wife Vera loved Neil and I bought her September Morn when I first met her. Cry buckets on hearing this.
What a beautiful song.

I'm so happy
This is a movement. An experience. Niel Diamond wrote from the soul and sang from the place where we live.
It was back in 1980 but the passion moved me to understanding that I really loved Kelly Somers who I eventually would Marry!😊
Neil, the Best! 👍😍
Just love this music, always have. Makes me feel like getting out on the open road and travelling somewhere. I dont care what Bill Murray thinks, LOL, I'm in that portion of the crowd that loves Neil Diamond, a fan forever.
This song is so beautiful. It gives me goosebumps every time. I think I'd play this at my wedding.
Neil Diamond in top form. He was never better than this.
Nice video.
This song brings back a sweet, 40-year-old memory.

🥰 Always!!!
I've loved ND for over 40 years and I never heard this song before. My boyfriend sang this to me several months ago and I listen to it every time I come on UA-cam..... LOVE IT!!!
Does anyone know who the two women are in the video?
This was a personal favorite of my grandmother's. Just last night, this song came on the radio and my mother (also a huge Neil Diamond fan) turned it up. I hadn't heard this song in years, possibly since my grandmother was still alive 3-4 years ago. In that instant, my eyes swelled with tears and I had to excuse myself from the room. Such utter nostalgia this song carries.
That guitar solo ………..That guitar solo
Most Beautiful Song Ever
No words can decribe Neil Diamond.
Neil Diamond, one of the best singers of all time. I love what this great artist does!!!
Mine, too! He is beyond 'good'!
Rare that a person as neil comes along. Very classy guy
There won't be another.
I too was in your very predicament at the same age also in 1973 and thank God I failed. Married with lots of grandchildren. A very difficult age.
I was watching this new tv show called Fleishman is in Trouble and they played this song while showing flashbacks of a couple's relationship. I couldn't get it out of my head, how could I have forgotten how beautiful it is.
“I don't know what's worse: to not know what you are and be happy, or to
become what you've always wanted to be, and feel alone.”
The strings in this song are outstanding, from the guitar to the cello to the violins. Wow.
Production value. When Neil Diamond truly grabbed a song, as he has done repeatedly, the production value was quintessential, always quintessential, and his voice lifted as an angel. Suzanne is my all time favorite.
There isn't a song anywhere that comes close to this with soft percussion mixed with strings like this one.
Take a listen to Stones! RP
This is true music; delivered by an outstanding artist whose music sounds as good now as it did so many years ago. I just love it even as we approach 2018!
EmpressOfWyoming58 Félix Pérez love this song
Great song. Such a great love story.
One Song Writer & Singer I have Loved listening to and still do so. Brings back Fond Memories of my Youth ....
I've always loved Neil. I don't listen to his music often, but it's a love that will never go away. This has long been a favorite. He knows how to tug at the heart and make you cry!
Dellani Oakes: Yeah... he/Neil duz know how to bring deep emotion up from our soul.
Jennifer Lawerence has nothing to do with this video. She is trying to take credit for this video that I uploaded. I am deleting all of her comments.
Thank you so much for posting this exquisitely beautiful song.
Such beautiful images on this video-I wish I could see things lime this all the time.
Neil Diamond an American Legend,I Love this man.
His voice is beautiful and his looks are perfection! He can play me!!🥰
HIS SONGS ARE LIKE A COLLECTION OF GEMS. *****🌼
Beyond beautiful💎♥️
