I found an old VCR tape of a Neil Diamond concert and would play it for him daily. I could see his demeanor change and he would relax and feel better when I played it for him. He never got tired of it and either did I. We played some of it at his funeral.

I often watch the old war movies by myself and remember a time as a kid that he would make me watch them with him, so that I could translate (he was a Greek migrant with limited English). But I digress. We had a next door neighbour called Pat. Salt of the earth, she was. Her husband was openly carrying on an affair with her best friend and in her hours of grief and loneliness, she would play Neil Diamond and I could hear her crying from next door. She died of a heart attack but each time I listen to Neil, I think of Pat. Neil's songs speak to us is so many ways.
His music was a solace for me when I was young. I survived a lot of abuse, and clung to these songs. Even in writing my stories, Neil was the model for the God of Music in the fantasy stories I was writing.

This was a personal favorite of my grandmother's. Just last night, this song came on the radio and my mother (also a huge Neil Diamond fan) turned it up. I hadn't heard this song in years, possibly since my grandmother was still alive 3-4 years ago. In that instant, my eyes swelled with tears and I had to excuse myself from the room. Such utter nostalgia this song carries.

I was watching this new tv show called Fleishman is in Trouble and they played this song while showing flashbacks of a couple's relationship. I couldn't get it out of my head, how could I have forgotten how beautiful it is.
