It’s because Max was forgotten. Everyone was happier without him, and his control faded in 2 weeks when he wasn’t even confirmed dead. So he’s inflicting that same fear onto Richie: that no one with pray for him, and he can be replaced easily
@@bananabanana484in my opinion that’s also why Max reacts with rage when Richie says “I’m not a looser!” Richie means it as an attempt to save his own life. But what Max hears is “I didn’t live a life where I would be forgotten like you did.” In other words, Richie responding with ‘I’m not a looser’ makes Max think Richie is calling HIM a looser for having been forgotten.

Just before they died they had finally made friends with people they thought they’d never even be around, only to have it slip between their fingers as they lose their lives. As others have said “Who will pray for me” is also definitely more compelling than the soundtrack’s “will you pray for me”, it’s a very existential question and for high schoolers it must be especially prevalent. A lot of people share stories about how people at their high schools were literally murdered and nobody really cared because all teens have the mindset that they’re too cool for being human beings in public, so for the ghost of a student that would be devastating no matter who you were. For Max it must be even worse because nobody even knows that he died and already they’ve disregarded everything he has ever wanted for the school (even if it was a shitty structure that only hurt people where no pain was necessary), let alone even questioned where he’s been. I think that Richie was dead the moment Max died, but him saying “I’m not a loser” is probably the cause of his death being so brutal, as well as it being the first time Max has killed someone like this so he’d flex what he’s capable of etc. earlier when Peter tried the same thing Max told him “you’re not a loser because of what you are or what you do, you’re a loser because *I* said so.” Richie definitely struck the same nerve and he most definitely did it at the wrong time.

I love how on the duet of "This is the consequence", Richie stops when he hears his friends. This is the consequence of what happened, but he knew this wasnt his fault. It was an accident, and Max brought it upon himself.
In the original script it actually was however instead of being in this song it was a completely separate song that would have opened act 2, Max would have been singing to Grace in a church which gives a bit more meaning to the whole 'Who Will Pray For Me?" lyric, which would lead into the scene of Grace waking up from a nightmare of Max. And i was SO wrong, the main reason I originally thought that was the line "This is the consequence for what you've done!" So yeah this was my little rant of my original thoughts before watching the musical.
Hi. I’m from TikTok and I heard the “who will pray for me” song and I really wanted to know where this amazingly powerful song came from! Thank you for the video
My god, this is phenomenal. From the fluid animation, the great lighting, the spirits of the other kids surrounding them to the smaller stuff I particularly love like how monstrous Max looks in this, how brave Richie seems as he spouts his final line, and especially how it changes from the ProShot audio to the soundtrack audio as he rips his face off, masterful.
After the nerds had killed him, Richie, the boy he is killing, had the biggest social climb by eventually becoming a part of the football team and replacing Max. Literally, people talk about how much they do not miss Max and how good of a player Richie is. Max's entire prescence was essentially erased by a boy who had killed him, and no one missed him. He is saying who will pray for Richie when he's gone or until someone else comes and replaces him too like he did to Max.
@@xoxolovez Richie didn't replace Max or try to social climb, he was always the team's mascot and the team just started treating him like part of the team after Max died (Richie didn't kill him, Max fell to his death due to a rotten floorboard).
I had a VERY different reading of that line from others. My interpretation is that Max is saying that Richie's life won't matter because there will LITERALLY be another Richie soon enough. As Max has been touched by the Black and While due to where he died, it's possible he's gotten a glimpse into Hatchetfield's broken timeline and knows there are literally countless versions of everyone. Once Max causes an apocalypse in this timeline, then another timeline with another Richie will come along.
The song is absolutly amazing and I think Ive listened to it about 100 times since finding it yesterday, but the line where he says "of course not" sounds like Trevor from GTA5.
I’ll be honest, in the first minute of the song I really didn’t like it, the flow of it and lyrics just didn’t feel right but once the second verse and the who will pray for you part really kicks it up a couple notches
Who prefers this version more than the lyric changed version (Yes the new version makes the meaning behind a part of it, him reflecting on how no one "prayed for him" when he disappeared and it shows it more when he says "will you pray for me?" Turning to the people he hates the most hoping they will pray for him.) I prefer the og because it sounds the best in my opinion, but i do like the edit.
I hope I'm not the only one in this, but Will sounds so much like Brennan Lee Mulligan to me, it's uncanny. Like this sounds like something out of a high-school horror season of Dimension 20, and only because their voices sound so similar to me.
i do kind of think his revenge is justified due to them commiting manslaughter in the story and hiding the body it kind of reminds me of i know what you did last summer. that will you pray for me he wanted some one to care about him
He can be angry that they hid and desecrated his body, but his death was a complete accident and they only wanted to prank him in the first place because of how nonsensically cruel he was. Well, except Grace. But she's crazy...
@@YorkJonhson being cruel is one thing but commiting manslaughter and hiding evidence. think of it from his perspective i got invited to a party only to find out it was a prank that lead to his death rather than going to get help admit that it was a prank gone wrong the hid showing that they cared more about getting into trouble. he was cruel but doesnt justify the desacration of his body and death. im not defending the bully but i dont side with the nerds either.
I don't think it was justified in the slightest. He died of an accident and when they actually wanted to help him he said he would murder them. Not only that, he murdered people who were not a part of it, and was literally planning to commit a mass murder on a global stage. And not only that, Max wasn't mad with what they did after. He was mad people forgot about him.
That is Will Branner, primarily known for his work in the Back To The Future Musical, The voice actor for Adam is Alex Brightman who is primarily known for playing Beetlejuice in the musical adaptation.
I think a lot of this song is pretty cringe and most of the lyrics are terrible, but I like the end when he starts singing "who will pray for me" it reminds me of old Disney songs back when they were good if the whole song was like the ending this shit would be a banger
No he didn't, have you actually watched the show? He did prank him and help hide the body but the death was literally just a freak accident due to a weak floorboard.
Max Jägerman is a bully who bullied all the "nerdy prudes" of Hatchetfield high. He's the star of the football team, he's hot, he's got just about everything going well for him. The nerds run in fear... the girls are all over him. One day, a group of these nerdy prudes get together and formulate a plan to prank Max. Harmless little prank that'll make him look scared. Well, they lure him to the old abandoned Waylon house, said to be haunted. They play their little joke but it goes horribly wrong... Fast forward here, Max is out for revenge on the nerdy prudes. I keep using the term nerdy prudes because it's the name of the musical. I watched it literally yesterday and I'm obsessed. It's right here on UA-cam. Search "Nerdy Prudes Must Die" by Starkid. And you will find it. The songs are amazing the characters are fantastic ☺️ I highly recommend this to you. Powerful scenes like these are expected.
I saw a couple of shorts using the "Who will pray for you?" "Who will pray for me?" "When you're gone" "When I'm gone" part, and I needed to find the original because it sounded really darn good, but jeez the whole thing sounds kinda lame, especially him yelling out "Nerdy prudes must dye! Nerdy prudes must dye!" out of song voice. Why is that IN the song, it breaks the tone in an awful way.
It's a repeating of his last words before his death which became his sole obsession once the lingering magic of the Starry Children bring him back. It's kinda weird to judge this out of context of the story it's a part of...
This song is one that really baited me cause the rest of it just isn't good (to my tastes) guy who made it wants to say a full version of "pray for me" is trite when the nerdy prudes must die feels like sandpapers on the ears
Its so weird. Like, the whole song is kind of bad, outside of those emotional two lines. Nerdy prudes must die isnt funny enough or campy enough to carry the song, and is just an awful chorus. Its like two lines were written to be accidentally good and they were just crammed in without thinking.
I don't care for this, feels like a little tone-deaf for modern audiences. Bully culture has already been beaten into a pulp well past the archetypes depicted in the show. I don't really know who this is for in the modern sense mostly cause I haven't heard the word "prude" out loud in years or even over a decade.
The thing I appreciate about this play is it's meaning shifts depending on who you consider the main character. I consider Grace the main character, so it's not about bully culture to me, and more so a commentary on insanity driven by religion - Max wouldn't have died if Grace hadn't been raised in an environment where her attraction to him was considered sinful. After he dies she refers to it as an act of God because she's villainized him so much (even though he's never done anything to her personally) that she can only feel relief by his death. Plus the scene in the police station where she denounced God for abandoning her - that she's devoted her whole life to what she thought was piety and it came back to bite her in the ass. And beyond that, it's the 3rd play in the Hachetfield series, so there's a lot of lore aspects that you'll miss if you haven't seen the other ones.
what are you even talking about?? "bully culture" bullies are just people who do bad shit to people, it's not a culture. bullies are very much still around and a thing and there are a ton of real people like the people depicted in this. have you just like.. assumed that the world stopped doing those things when you stopped seeing them? kinda self centered.

1:51 I remember when I was watching animatics of this scene,i knew zero of the context behind it so when i saw that i could watch the full musical on UA-cam,i was here thinking it was gonna another one of those stories where a kid was being and then the bullies unintentionally (or intentionally) killed them and their spirit coming back for revenge and kill innocent people that they feel would stand in the way.
And i was SO wrong, the main reason I originally thought that was the line "This is the consequence for what you've done!" So yeah this was my little rant of my original thoughts before watching the musical.
The lyrics and singing in this this song are just so freakin good
this might me a deep cut but he reminds me of the scorpion from the devil's carnival
Hi. I’m from TikTok and I heard the “who will pray for me” song and I really wanted to know where this amazingly powerful song came from! Thank you for the video
If you haven't already, you should watch the series of musicals this comes from.
@@thegeneralpopulace8513where i can find them?, im so confused-
It's from "Nerdy Prudes Must Die" a musical by Starkid. I also recommend checking out "The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals."
I really, really wish the song continues beyond the I'm a loser part. Like that was so epic
The delivery of "I want you to repeat after me" has big Ace Ventura energy
we need a full album in spotify please🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I wind up singing "Darkness will spare my soul" every time even if its not Graces song 😆
Is this like a live performance slasher?
It is: it’s a comedy (?) slasher musical, free to watch on UA-cam called „nerdy prudes must die“ pretty good, will recommend personally
Pretty much, yeah
0:07, 0:30, 1:04, 2:08, 2:20
I like the who will pray for u part wish the song was more of that still good
My god, this is phenomenal.
What does he mean by “until another Richie comes along?” I never really got that line
The nerds name is ritchie. I think he is saying that he will be replaced and forgotten by everyone. Pretty much saying he is a nobody
Hey, does anyone know what was being sung in the background during the who will pray for me when my body’s gone bit?
"And if I finally become cool, I will know that I'm not a loser" from As Cool As I Think I Am.
Does anyone know what the ensemble is saying? Their lyrics?
They are singing part of Peter's song from earlier called "Cool As I Think I Am". I don't remember the exact lyrics.
@@SP00KY110 YOU ARE MY SAVIOR THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!! I'LL GO CHECK THAT!!!!
The song is absolutly amazing and I think Ive listened to it about 100 times since finding it yesterday, but the line where he says "of course not" sounds like Trevor from GTA5.
Okay, so, I'm not big on musical theatre, never really got into it, but is the Jock the same dude who voices Adam from Hazbin Hotel?
No, Adam is voiced by Alex Brightman, who starred as the title character in the Broadway version of Beetlejuice.
No but you should really get into musicals like you already know hazbin hotel jump down the rabbit hole it's amazing
Amo.
"IM NOOT A LOOOOSSSEERRRRR!!"

What are they singing in the background?
Its a reprise of Cool As I Think I Am

Who will pray for me “short
“ for me here. I wish it was its own thing.
My favorite part is the “I’m not a loser!” But my favorite line is “or is this the eternal dark without a dawn.”
I’ll be honest, in the first minute of the song I really didn’t like it, the flow of it and lyrics just didn’t feel right but once the second verse and the who will pray for you part really kicks it up a couple notches
If there wasn't the whole "Nerdy proods must die" part this song would have been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎆
Could not imagine thinking the “pray for me” portion of the song is trite when the rest of the song is…the rest of the song 😬
Most of the song is pretty mid but the Who Will Pray For Me Part goes hard
Who prefers this version more than the lyric changed version
(Yes the new version makes the meaning behind a part of it, him reflecting on how no one "prayed for him" when he disappeared and it shows it more when he says "will you pray for me?" Turning to the people he hates the most hoping they will pray for him.) I prefer the og because it sounds the best in my opinion, but i do like the edit.
Richie stronger than me if we harmonize that good across the stage I'd ask what are we
Kinda weird how a bunch of people saw a snippet on TikTok and are now mad that it's actually part of a story they need context for...
Am I the only one who hears Brennan Lee Mulligan singing?
He definitely sounds very similar
I hope I'm not the only one in this, but Will sounds so much like Brennan Lee Mulligan to me, it's uncanny. Like this sounds like something out of a high-school horror season of Dimension 20, and only because their voices sound so similar to me.
Max is just crashing out.
Instagram, anyone?
Why is young Ben stiller singing while trying to kill some loser?
i do kind of think his revenge is justified due to them commiting manslaughter in the story and hiding the body it kind of reminds me of i know what you did last summer. that will you pray for me he wanted some one to care about him
He can be angry that they hid and desecrated his body, but his death was a complete accident and they only wanted to prank him in the first place because of how nonsensically cruel he was.
Just to be clear, isn't that the guy who plays Adam from hazbin hotel
That is Will Branner, primarily known for his work in the Back To The Future Musical, The voice actor for Adam is Alex Brightman who is primarily known for playing Beetlejuice in the musical adaptation.
I think a lot of this song is pretty cringe and most of the lyrics are terrible, but I like the end when he starts singing "who will pray for me" it reminds me of old Disney songs back when they were good if the whole song was like the ending this shit would be a banger
Apparently the original song was supposed to be in vein of the praying part. But the author felt it was trite and went with this instead
That's because the ghost it's supposed to be like that, the stereotypical bully
@@sudanemamimikiki1527I’m so sad, I hope they release that version somehow
@@sudanemamimikiki1527That’s a shame.
is that a hinata tshirt
Almost certainly. The kid's obsessed with anime.
Well I mean, the guy did trick, kill, mutilate, hide the body, and lie. I can’t say the nerd is innocent
No he didn't, have you actually watched the show? He did prank him and help hide the body but the death was literally just a freak accident due to a weak floorboard.
@@eliburry-schnepp6012 he was there solely because of the nerds, in a plot of ill will. Most courts would find this at least 3rd degree manslaughter
Context?

Damn, thank you!!
Hahahahahaha i ahve the real mpd you vessel ghosts role play.
I mean the musical is nerdy prudes must die. And the song is more of a story telling device than an actual song.
It's a repeating of his last words before his death which became his sole obsession once the lingering magic of the Starry Children bring him back. It's kinda weird to judge this out of context of the story it's a part of...
Allen Barbara Thompson Karen Thompson David
Lewis Jessica Hall Jason Jones Ronald
It's for fans of musical theater. It's a play. It isn't conveying a specific message like most media.
