Testing Door Sweeps For Soundproofing - With Decibel Meter!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- In this video, I will be testing out 4 different types of door sweeps using a decibel meter to find out which door sweep is best for soundproofing a door.
All these door sweeps are very different from one another. From an industrial rubber bottom door sweep to a thin vinyl door sweep and everything in between, will they give us different results regarding sound proofing?
If you're looking to soundproof a door in your home or office then this video is for you because the number one path for noise to come through a door is from the bottom gap, once that gap is sealed noise will have a much harder time getting through the door and into the room.
Here is a list of every door sweep I test out in this video. The links are from both Amazon and Home Depot to give you more buying options. They are in order as shown in the video.

I feel as if the test wasn't as solid as it could be. You stated the door had no weather strips, therefore, that would be the bottleneck in the test. Regardless of how good the door sweep would be, at a certain point, the sound that would've been blocked by the weather strips overcame the soundproofing of the door sweep. Having a hollow door vs a solid core would do the same but, I'm not sure which one you said it was.
The slide on winner was actually in the mid-fifties so it cut noise a lot better than the other ones
Are these options compatible with a interior door threshold?
Will this mess up your central ac system since it blocks the flow of air?
Do you have similar comparison video or numbers on stc rating of hollow door vs solid door ?
Thanku for this video! :) Im renting a room in a house and really needed to close the hige gap on the door
You’re welcome! Hope you find the product you’re looking for! Let me know how it turns out! 😊
I think the "Winner" door sweep you link to in the show notes is a different product on Amazon vs. Home Depot. I think the Home Depot one (Cinch
36 in. White Vinyl U-Shape Slide-On Under Door Seal) is the one you show in the video. The Amazon one (KS Hardware Double Bubble Door Sweep) requires screws and may have other differences.
This video was very helpful! I'm trying to sound proof my office. There is a double door and a single door. They are wood but I'm not sure if solid core or not. The room is carpeted and I plan on putting in a book shelf and some decorative wall paneling on another wall. How do you suggest I sound proof the double door?
Having the same issue with my office since its double doors. Did you find a solution?
Question: ever tested the weighted slip on under the door sound & draft slip on?
Li like the video. Did you ever try a flat door sweep screwed into the inside and outside the door?
i love this video, EXACTLY what i have been needing to see
Is it worth getting a sweep for a 2” gap.
I just moved into a one bedroom. I live in a low income apartment complex. I need to sound proof my apartment to work online. Going to buy a doorsweep. What else can I do? Thanks
If the strips wear out, then will replacing the strips wear down the bottom of doors over time?
I have a door with a gap that goes from 1 1/16" on one side to 1 7/16" on the other, which is larger than the maximum gap these recommended sweeps will accommodate. I'm having trouble finding similar sweeps that will work for me. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. Thank you!
One I got that slides under the door is a tad bit more wide than the door, but it’s supposed to screw into the door. Is this it ok if the width is a tiny bit more than the door for this?
Hey how it going loved the video and I am happy you finally made this video because my gaming room door has a HUGE GAP under it and the room is right next to a bathroom, kitchen and two other bedrooms
not sure where i saw it, but some company makes one of those rigid rubber sweeps (the one you first showed) that can be retracted upward for when not need. it stays in place with magnets and i wish i knew who made it.
if the double bubble was the wiiner why the heck do you still recommend that industrial one lmao
Thanks for doing this video I'm currently building a theatre room and I've been debating on getting a door sweep for the theatre room door
Jesus. The price of the winner is £75 now
Have you considered testing sound insulation to a standard in your videos? eg, ISO 16283 or ISO 140
Yeah, this test didn't seem very repeatable since the music was not exactly the same in each test and the sound meter was not the same distance from the door (assume also that the laptop was not moved)
Will the 'winner' kind of door sweep work well enough with carpet too? My room is in desperate need of sound proofing from the outside I can't even have a conversation in my room in a shared house without people walking past hearing every word of it or my house mate in the room joined to mine :/ I'm hoping a door sweep at filling in all other gaps will help with the door but have no idea what to do with the wall as it is so thin all my music producer friends have said don't bother spending money on the walls it will be a waste of mony but I'm thinking maybe just one very large and thick wall hanging/ throw will help at least the voices be so clear? I bought a four panel split canvas and was hoping to fill it with a sound absorbing material but have also been advised walls are so thin it will be a waste of money as won't make much difference :/
I need the same thing kinda
lmk what u did.
Is there a version of #4 that uses adhesive instead of screws :/
how did you cut it
Good information yet you leave no name of the products you tested and/or when I can purchase one?
in the description
@@Creeper_-gl1lr Don't mean to play hard, but, where do I find the "description"?
@@ArielPeeri How old are you
Thank you for sharing this experiment. However, (in my opinion) it doesn't make any sense to test them out with the gaps around the door.
Thank youuuuuuuu
Your Right, thicker is better/ I suspect to do a door panel as well, to stop door strumming.
So if you were to install 2 industrial door sweeps on both sides, I’m guessing it could even surpass the expensive one!
Definitely!
At the end of the video you lied about the results the winner was in the mid 50s. This whole video was off. You didn't even voice the results. Sometimes the meter was even hard to see on the video. Made me feel like you wasted my time.
great video
Thank you!! 😊
What about the brush door sweeps? Can anyone comment on their experience with it and give some insight how it compares to a rubber door sweep?
I found the brush door sweep didn’t work as well for sound as the rubber ones.
@@soundproofguide Thank you for the comment! Much appreciated :))
Thank you this is useful. As a suggestion, can you please stop talking while you are testing for noise? When you are talking over the actual sound test, it distorts the test results and make no sense at all.
Noted! 😊
Which door sweep is the one with no screws necessary? My parents don’t want holes in the door!
It’s the “double bubble door sweep”. It’s the first one on the list in the description of this video. There’s a link for your choice of Amazon and Home Depot.
@@soundproofguide That’s what I was thinking too however when you go on Amazon it comes with install screws and doesn’t look like it has the little plastic things in between like the one in the video does. Are you sure that it is the correct link?
@@soundproofguide NEVERMIND! The Home Depot one looks like the right one!
Agreed the show notes is linking to different "Winner" products on Amazon vs. Home Depot. I think the Home Depot one (Cinch
36 in. White Vinyl U-Shape Slide-On Under Door Seal) is the one in the video. The Amazon one (KS Hardware Double Bubble Door Sweep) requires screws and may have other differences.
Music is a terrible way to test it should be a constant noise that never changes
Test all the door but not the metal one that he always recommends lmao
7:51 BREAKDANCE
Here 8 months late for the contest! :-D
Why did you keep (in edit) you being confused? Totally lost confidence in your knowledge of what you are doing.
this video seemed disorganized and scattered, I'd sugest watching some Project Farm videos to get a more compact and clear example.
