Can the double layer glass windows and these materials and the sound deafting curtains can stop or reduce the level of thunder sounds of thunders that fall right out side my house or my room?
I just followed you on Amazon
Can a foam or bubble-type insulation layer, either inside wall bays, or, surface mounted on walls & ceiling, meaningfully reduce sound thru walls/ceilings?
If surface-mounted, will those meaningfully reduce sound echoing?
How would moving-blanket wall & ceiling coverings compare with Reflectix or similar coverings, to meaningfully reduce sound echoing & transmission? (Thinking the Reflectix-type material is lighter weight, easier to handle, & adds reflective radiant barrier to help room-temp?)
Can those glass window covers be mounted on hinges, to keep the windows operable? It looks like those glass window additions would also help with room temp preservation? (Better than shrink-wrapping windows?)
You recommend 2 inch panels, yet the link provided is for 1 inch panels. I would like to know where I can get the ones you are holding in the video. They look even thicker than the 2 inch ones on Amazon.
Your channel convinced me to make my room soundproof so I can work, meditate and actually have the time for myself instead of hearing my neighbours childeren cry and have fun 💀. Will start today, wish me luck
Best of luck mister Spaceman! 😎
Been 4 months give us a update does it work
@@Stbanzz It does work. I moved out of the small apartment and into a house very recently through so I don't really need It anymore, but I can only recommend
Every apartment should be soundproof this way on apartment buildings!
I completely agree!
Exactly why I’m watching
Why I'm watching this now cause I want to block my neighbors noise as well as mine cause I don't want to hear them and I'd like to watch T.V and music without having to wear headphones 24/7 just so it doesn't bleed to my parents room or the other apartment, cause we hear everything
I enjoy your videos because you address a vanishing commodity...privacy and quiet. A lot of people don't understand the negative consequences of unwanted noise and how it affects their mental health. Keep up the good work!
In Sweden we have in general better sound proofing but I'm so happy to now live in a house instead of a flat.
No more hearing our neighbours arguing. Once we had an episode of hearing an alarm clock going off half an hour earlier than we were going up ourselves and no one was turning it off. Turned out to be a flat in a parallel stairwell to ours in a flat diagonal to ours.
They were very apologetic when they realised. Their kid had been admitted to hospital for a couple of weeks so they hadn't slept at home. So understandable but really damaging for our sleep.
I can hear my entire roommate's conversation and vice versa. I don't mind hearing muffled sound but I just dontt want them to hear word-for -word.
For me my bedroom is right next to my parents bathroom and I can hear them very clearly whenever theyre in there and I don't think it helps that their bathroom makes a lot of echo
Maybe its the door leaking sound. If so - use sealing tape to seal all air gaps.
If its the wall, your go-to solution is to make mineral wool+drywall sandwich.
Reminds me of that scene from *_Office Space_* where the two roommates are able to have a perfectly coherent conversation with one another... from separate apartments.
Yo this video couldn't have come out at a better time. Been looking for a solution for this that doesn't involve "just be quieter"
Yo I've been watching your videos for the past week trying to find ways to deaden/soundproof my room. I've been mostly finding your videos helpful with considering other options. Thank you and I appreciate your insightful videos!
Best of luck on your project!! 😊
thank you for all the advice! my father works from home in our unfinished basement and my bedroom is right above his desk, so i can hear every single word very loudly all day long, i'm hoping some of these can help reduce the level of noise coming in from the floor! its not really practical for us to try to treat the entire basement, so i'm trying whatever i can 😅
Thanks! I am living in a university dorm with walls quite thin and looking for ways to not get any more noise complain haha. I will try going with some acoustic foam/panel when I have enough butget.
Best of luck!
stop getting loud dates would help
@@freddykoopmans6985 bold of you to assume I get laid
Acoustic treatment and soundproofing are two completely different things like you said yourself. Do not start with acoustic treatment if you don’t want the sound to escape the room, because it will. You will first need to add as much mass as possible in the form of a reflective wall that is airtight and preferably decoupled from the main wall. Only AFTER that you can do acoustic treatment (purely to remove the impact that the room has on your speakers).
I sing and have 2 roommates So I need to soundproof my room so that the noise doesn't escape outside. I'm pretty new to this soundproofing stuff so any suggestions? what should I do?
@@sleeanisnotlean Hire a professional. Soundproofing is very difficult to DIY.
@@Fubuki43 I don't really have the money to do so. I'm a student. I also live in a rental.
I sing as a hobby. not good enough to be a professional or anything :'')
Still thank you for the reply.
@@sleeanisnotlean Ahh okay, well that sounds fun! In that case, just try to keep in mind that sound isolation is about preventing the sound from leaving the room. So it can help to close doors and even close any holes or strips of air that might let the sound out. Stuff like foam and acoustic treatment won’t do anything for sound isolation, those are only useful to make the room sound nicer on the inside. You need thick walls with a lot of mass. So technically speaking it will help if you can somehow make your walls thicker by adding a layer of mass. Hope that helps!
@@Fubuki43packing blankets hung on the walls is probably the cheapest for a rental.
This is extremely useful, thanks. I'm a soprano vocalist and live in a shared house. Thus, I am very conscious of how loud I must be when practicing 😅 and have been looking for a solution to stop as much sound leaking from my room as possible for ages! There are some really interesting suggestions here. Just one point, would you mind please describing how to install the acoustical sealant, weather-strip and moving blanket around the door/wall? I'm actually totally blind so do not have any visual reference for how you carry out these examples in the video. Thanks again for the great content.
Hi Laura-sandy! send me an email at info@soundprofguide.com and I will respond to your questions in detail.
Daily inspirational quote: "It adds re-- It adds ree-- I had gum surgery." Gonna live my life by this one
🤣🤣🤣
What about the ceiling to keep sound transferring from a downstairs unit to the unit directly above ?
I need to sound proof an apartment, and the walls are plaster/drywall with barely anything between each apartment. I can't really screw anything in, so I'm looking for advice. I have neighbors who have complained I laugh too loud, but I can't tell how loud I have to be.
That sucks. I feel for you :(
I play piano and sing and I've gotten complaints. I respect noise hours and don't go for more than an hour. But yeah, living in an apartment is always a challenge when dealing with roommates or neighbors. I've been using blankets around my doorway and tested it. It's not perfect, but it does muffle the sound more
Great videos thank you! Could you address the heating and cooling being affected around the windows?
Very useful video! Thanks a lot! One question: does high density of acoustic foam makes a difference? I found 20kg/m3 - 30kg/m3.
Is it worth it to put acoustic panels in your garage? For a golf simulator setup. Would the garage door offset the panels? Trying to gauge if it would be worth it
Very detailed and explained in a very simple understandable language 🤘🏻
Great video! When upgrading a room with additional plasterboard, can I use foam underlay for laminate flooring between plasterboards instead of massloaded vinyl? Just wondering if there will be a significant difference between both.
I'm subscribing your channel for guidance of soundproofing my room for my upcoming buy saxophone in the future... But right now, I'll just take notes of your useful advices... I'd knew that noise complaint is inevitable for musicians because in order to "perfecting" the music skill, the musician needs to practice every single hours daily until the music skills has polished...And so, loud music is no joke and could potentially disturb the neighbour... And disturb the neighbour is the last thing for a musician wants... Not only you'll get reported to the authority by your noise disturbed neighbour but also could "confiscated" your entire music equipments permanently for good... And that's the last thing that I want...
omg confiscate the music equipment? Where are you from?
Very concise, thorough and helpful. Thank you!
What if you attached the acoustic foam to the acoustic panels? Would the effect be amplified?
In theory; yes, because you add more surface area, but I would suggest putting the foam on the exposed wall between the panels, or a specific spot that needs extra treatment.
Hey a fellow cyclist; noticed all the Wahoo gear! :D
Great content by the way, thanks for all the useful info.
I am trying to turn a walk in closet into a vocal booth. It is located in my room upstairs and I would like for it to be mostly isolated keeping the sound of my vocals from escaping the closet so that people won't be able to hear downstairs.
How’d it going?
I really like your straight forward approach 👍🏽👊🏽What do you think of Sonoboard and then drywall instead of mass loaded vinyl(??) - it’s doing the job in my drum room☮️
Perfect I rage at video games and I want to dampen my sound from escaping and not bug the neighbors
same. i dont want people to hear my screaming and shouting.
I am looking for a way to "sound proof / sound deafen" my place, I have an electronic drumkit and I live in an apartment, luckily on the bottom floor so I dont necessarily have to think about downstairs, now I have no clue which kind of deafening method if any at all can do this kind of thing.
Basically what I need is for the click clacking of the plastic and somewhat the thumping of the kick pedal to be deafened.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
same! I'd like to practice my singing, but my room's quite next to my neighbour's bedroom and I don't want to disturb them. My neighbourhood's pretty quiet too, so its extra embarrassing for me to practice loudly. Advices appreciated!!
What did you end up doing?? I'm in the same shoes as you
I practised on an elevated stance that a guy made for me. Basically a frame of wood filled with mineral wool and a nice rug on top.
Also, it seems like rubber flooring also helps
Awesome videos! I play drums in my shed in my backyard and I want to be able to play and have my neighbors not be able to hear from inside their house. I'm assuming that would only be possible if I coat the walls in mass-loaded vinyl? Foam panels and moving blankets probably wouldn't suffice I'd imagine :(
Very informative thanks
I live in a apartment, but its made out like a townhouse, everything is upstairs, but my neighbors beside me have a little tv that I can see their window, it looks like they have stereo speak hooked up to the tv, and my living room is directly above their living room as well, they blast that TV nearly 24/7, also the people seem to be possibly not all their in their heads, its just a wife and husband, both are much older than me, and I think the husband has some kind of mental handicap, whats the best thing i could buy to kill the sound, ive tried turning up my own tv but thats just annoying, I was going to buy some sound panels, i looked on Amazon and found some nice looking ones, and its just their tv noise being very loud, i can almost hear the voice and words on the tv, im willing to buy anything, money's no problem, but im not rich either, please lemme know what to do here, ive watched your videos too
Hello! What do you recommend for a baby nursery? I live in an older 3-story house rental so I'm afraid my upstairs neighbours will hear our baby when he comes.
Do you recommend filling the walls with acoustic panels? What is your take on the acoustic hexigonal panels
I wish you sent a link on where YOU got your acoustic panels
Hi when you install the soundproof puddy on the side of the of the face covering the socket, when you said make sure there is no power, are you saying that socket can never be used for plugging any electric cords?, or just for that moment when you are installing the puddy pad?, . Thanks, Toi .
Very helpful. Thank you
What would be better for sound blocking: Using two layers of 1 lb / sqr foot MLV and glueing them together with green glue, or just using one layer of 2lb per sqr feet MLV?
Whatever option is cheapest.
Hi. I live in a condo building and I want to soundproof my unit ceiling from the noise that I create with my surround system. In other words I would like to enjoy my Dolby Atmos system to the fullest without disturbing my neighbors that live above me. I'm under a very tight budget and I am not a very manual person in regard to renovations in general. Do you have a solution for me? And if so is there a video that you created about this that you could refer me to? Thanks! :-)
4:00 good to know canvas paintings work.
Hi. I got a basement drum room which i want to sound proof for my neighbours next door. I was thinking of stacking leftover glass wool insulation on the walls, along with hanging either moving blankets or the acoustic foam. Is that a good idea? Any tips?
Great video, thanks!
Can you explain to me if this works to avoid the sound of people clapping?
do flat acoustic panels work? those hexagonal shape ones on amazon?
Got any opinions on SONOpan as the layer you sandwhich between the second layer of dryway? It's supposed to be as good or better than MLV for about $30/4'x8' sheet
if i were to define the benefits of buying an extra window panel in my own words, it would be something like this... if you already have a single panel window, an extra panel will improve sound proofing by about 2x. having a double panel window and buying an extra panel would only improve soundproofing by about 1.5x which would be a noticeable drop in efficacy and in that sense, value of purchase would also drop just as much.
Here is a scenario, say I want to rent a mall store location. The location doesn't have any doors and I can't add any doors. It does have a garage door that is only closed during closing times. I want to turn this space into a small arcade. How well would sound deadening panels and/or foam work at keeping arcade sounds from bleeding out into the rest of the mall?
thanks.. i watched the other video you had,,, couldn't comment there,,, so did it here
So I need to get on Amazon the 2" acoustic panels for my walls in my room cuz I play guitar and want to practice with a little privacy and to not disturb my Dad in his room or the living room. I did order a sound "reducing" curtain to put over my door (not sound "proof" to keep SOME of the noise from escaping out the door. Hopefully this will help a little. Thank you handsome
A sound “reducing” blanket is definitely better than nothing! It will also help absorb a bit of the guitar noise. Best of luck! 🤞
@@soundproofguideSo I got the curtain for the door but it doesn’t cover the bottom gap so I’m going to have to get a door sweep as you recommend, probably tomorrow. I also ordered the 2” acoustic panels and should be here tonight from Amazon Prime and I’ll probably install them tomorrow as well. I hope this works enough so I can sing and play and practice in my room without disturbing the old man 😅 Thanks again for this video, I keep coming back to it lol. ❤

Also, I just got my acoustic panels and they were compressed in the package EXTRA well. A video on Amazon said it can take a day or TWO to deflate or decompress??? If that’s the case can they be in stacks (like 4 stacks) or is the right way to lay them all out and not stack them on top of each other??? Cuz honestly I don’t have room :/

Why didn't you mention anything about the ceiling?
I'm in an old apartment with plaster walls and I have a litter of large breed pups coming unexpectedly. I have a room for them but it's attached to another apartment, someone below also. Okay so my AC furnace is very LOUD which is really annoying..It’s put behind the wall where my couch is and it’s beyond annoying..Parents can’t take the noise..Please tell me what can i do to get rid of the noise? cheap methods please!!
It’d be great if there was a written overview of everything discussed.?.
I've seen hexagonal acoustic foams, do they have the same efficiency as the egg cardboax style?
It's probably more a decorative thing. It's all about the material's surface area absorbing the soundwaves.
If you want to stop noise coming in.
1) rip gyprock of wall frame.
2) completely water proof and seal inner wall cavity with black plastic tarp and wet area waterproofer paint
3) use black !! To reduce Future mould issue
4) re apply gyprock
5) fill inner wall cavity with water.
6) monitor for leaks.
Sound gets verr very muddled and absorbed by water
Also note.
I'm kidding, do not do this.
You will somehow fk it and create a extremely dangerous red mould spore issue and it's deadly.
However just food for thoughts lol
Didn’t all your previous videos say that foam doesn’t do anything? I must have misunderstood?
we are uk and our doors more or less look like urs lol but just the normal two panel variants
Do Ceiling Eaves reduce noise from the outside?
will this be good for streaming and music ? so im able to be a fair bit loud when on stream or recording vocals
Yes.
Can you put acoustic foam on windows?
Yes, but they might degrade quickly if UV light can reach the back of the material, so the suggestion is to back it with a uv graded material.
Great video ❤🎉
Loving the information 🎉🎉🎉 10:12

does a brick wall help with sound escaping from a room ?

Acoustic panels and acoustic foam are 'SNAKE-SALESMAN-CRAP'.
Your Wall's need to BE INSULATED FROM SOUND first and foremost. It will STOP sound out and in. Use a wooden frame not connected TO the walls withing your room/s. Then USE Exterior Rockwool SLABS and then cover over with SOUNDBLOCK Gyprock, use whatever type of a soundblock-soundproof type of Gyprock sheets which are available to you. THIS Works 100% it DOES !
I have used this system all over not only my house but next-door-neighbour's walls too and neither of us hear ANYTHING from one another and we both watch TV and Movies LOUD !!!
Thanks for your input.

nope, the low freq are very hard to block.
Any drummer over here taking notes?
For drums specifically a floor isolation platform to prevent vibrations through the floor is key.
Dose Styrofoam work??
a matter of dosage. will do for stopping some of the reflections but not really soundproofing, which takes sheer mass or varying densities. Guess styrofoam plus foam or wrapped in a blanket makes a difference
