Instagram has made training way too "fancy" and overcomplicated. Eat, Progressive overload, Rest, Repeat. Love this video! Solid evidence and explanations for those who need to hear it!
Way back, he has done a 30 day program of just hip thrusts (off your couch) and bodyweight squats, both with glute loop optional. It gets a little tedious but it works if you stick with it! I followed it to the letter when COVID quarantine first hit and added 1/2 inch to my butt! Thanks Bret
Man, if you start posting videos in your channel regularly, that would be massive. You are an eminence and a big reference for me. Total respect and admiration!
He mentioned on instagram that 2021 is the year he wants to focus on growing his yt following, and he’s putting a lot of energy into it. I think Alex the camera guy is also his video editor.
When you a bro who learns from Bret for developing a strong posterior chain to prevent back and hip injuries but end up getting a dump truck in the process and having ladies creep on you when you Romanian deadlift at the gym.
I started doing hip-thrust because of Bret years ago at my gym, and everyone rolled their eyes big time at me. Lol i thrust 275 for 5 sets of 12 now and my glutes are strongest than ever right now. ❤️
Love this! ❤️ So awesome to hear honest, no nonsense, no bullshitty answers that I actually trust. I’m sure I speak for a lot of girls and guys who are sick of the fluffed up advice given by “fitfluencers” who honestly just mess with your head and confuse you! 😂
Activating is fundamental for me because I have a hard time feeling the muscles in my left leg and glute, without a good warm up and activation I just don't feel the workout
A year ago, I watched every video on this channel and was amazed about how much I learned about human biomechanics. Dr. Contreras is a wonderful teacher. The garage videos are among the best on UA-cam. Though the new videos have more graphics, I prefer the old-school.
I've seen massive development with the trap bar deadlift. I tried squats and hip thrusts, but I felt those in my hamstrings or lower back. The trap bar deadlift gave me so much leg and glute development that I had to grab new jeans.
the straight-forwardness he gives us is what we need with every educational UA-cam video regarding anything. people love talking about their life stories before getting to the point. gained a new subscriber here!
I’m a fit but slim 22-year-old woman newly getting into serious lifting/bulking, and I’m so pumped because I just got a _dozen_ different pointers to help me avoid the myths/overrated stuff and hit the underrated stuff hard _before I even start!!_ Thank you so much! I’ve explored so many different UA-cam channels at this point, your information is consistently the best, most well researched, and most concise and straightforward.
YES, the cable kickback - I always struggle to feel it in the glute I'm working and I always end up with my other leg taking all the resistance/strength. How do I overcome that? (love your videos Bret, beginning a fitness journey and have learned so much already, thank you!) x
OMG I love Bret and his simple explanations .... We want more for sure. Any good tips how to train gluteus at home when all we have is 5-10 kg weights (11-22 lbs)?
Yes tons of single leg hip thrusts, deficit reverse lunges, Bulgarian split squats, high step ups, pistols, frog pumps, side lying hip raises, extra range side lying hip abductions, and don't forget band work
@@bretcontreras1 If i may ask another question: What is better in your opinion: Having single weight upfront our bodies while doing squat for example (i know this will tense our core more) or having weights on each side of our body? Me personally i feel much better if i hold my weight in front. If i put it on each side, i also feel more in my shoulders like they are pulled down. Which position is actually better for gluteus? Would be happy to get any tips on this matter. Thank you
I agree about the hip thrust machine straps being painful. It's one of my favorite machines though so my work around has been to place one of the smaller extra back pads from the leg press across my hips between me and the straps and it works great!
Bret, would love to see you do a video for over 50 folks. I could do heavier weight when I was a lot younger...not so much now. The older you get the harder it is do lift very heavy. Hormones is the culprit unfortunately. Donuts....lol I can look at a donut and gain weight. Not sure your age but once you start losing hormones you don't bounce back like in your 20's and 30's. I eat very healthy, exercise 5-6 days a week and thank goodness that keeps my weight at bay but I have to be careful. Thanks
Wow.. aging is a real thing eh? Metabolic slowdown is real too.. that reminds me I gotta work my ass off in my youth and make the most of my physique rn. Thank you Anita 🙏🏼 Props to you for still working out 5-6x a week!
I support that request. I am 43 and have just got into lifting and feel I am progressing slowly in my strength (compared to what I see from others) but maybe that is normal (and I know I shouldn’t really compare!), but it would be good to know what I should expect.
@@Ngan.marianguyen And it doesn't help when you bodies hormones suddenly disappear especially for women (menopause). Hang on and enjoy the ride.... Growing old is not for the faint of heart, trust me.
Found your channel and I gotta say I love it. Super underrated. I have been a gym goer for years but just recently started lifting and it had made a huge difference in my life. There are so many videos on UA-cam about glutes that make no sense (eg donkey kicking air) and weird diets. I like your videos, they are straight to the point and informative.
Hey man, thank you for your EMG research and articles on T-Nation 10 years ago, hip exercises and 30-40 sets / week of glute busters, also for just being an awesome human being.
Holy cow I'm so happy I found out about you, and I'm so grateful that you are willing to share with the world. I wish I could come to your gym and learn directly from you, but we have a vast ocean and much land between us, I can't. So I am grateful! I feel like you are giving me real information, not just confusion. Thank you.
I am glad you said single leg exercises are underrated. I just started doing negative accentuated hip thrusts supersetted with deadlifts, going to failure within 10-16 reps on hip thrust and 9-15 reps on deadlifts, and doing a 25% drop set failure then a 50% drop set failure from the start weight. I finish with the hip abduction machine to failure with 2 forced reps and a static hold going into a slow negative, with a 25% drop set to failure and a 50% drop set to failure from the start weight.
I love this new format, I will definitely watch you more. I watched the old ones but didn't like them as much. And you smile a bit more, that's a win win, not so serious. Great video, really informative, really enjoyed it. More please. And one more thing..... THANK YOU
Thanks for going over the reasons for each choice you’ve chosen! Can you please do a video on how to eat enough protein for you weight? Like you said it is very hard to eat 40g protein each meal on 3 meals a day diet.
I would be interested in tips on growing glutes while recovering from knee injuries, or just growing glutes in general if you have bad knees! For instance, those who struggle with lunges or squats - what other type of exercises in a glute workout would you include?
Thank you so much, love this video! You are definitely the best! Keep them coming, please. I would love to see you cover a little bit more on nutrition particularly pre-and post in the future if possible?. Thank you!!
Very happy I’ve found this channel! The Glute Guy is amazing! Can’t wait to learn some stuff about glute training to help me find efficient ways to grow them.
I think Brett Is soooooooo UNDERRATED....
Nah I think he is getting the respect he deserved tbh (hes pretty popular in the fitness world xD!)
He is literally the most respected person in the fitness community.
@@msforest833 Nah, that's Jeff Cavalier. He promotes thrusts, pull throughs and glute medius work too

Instagram has nothing but terrible advice from know it all's who take loads of gear, eat terribly but think they have expertise because of the gear.
Love how quickly you went over each question and how easily it was explained m, straight to the point

Hip THRUSTS BABYYYYYY! They have changed my life! ♡
Is anyone going to mention the shockingly improved video quality compared to the older series? Bret must've hired a video editor lol
He mentioned on instagram that 2021 is the year he wants to focus on growing his yt following, and he’s putting a lot of energy into it. I think Alex the camera guy is also his video editor.
Omg I’m so glad someone mentioned it

Bret "the glute guy" Contrera. My lower back is forever grateful for your advice.
