The way I explain it is distributed weight that carries force. Force in which you can use to direct in specific directions to execute precise movements.
Wow this video is amazing i passed by it a long time ago when i first started parkour and had no interest in it but becoming more experienced and starting to learn flips i realized how important stretching and flexibility are and this video gave me tons of new stretches thanks Kyle! =)
Let me know how it feels if you continue stretching cold, everyone's mentioning the benefits of warming up before stretching, but the whole time I've been stretching before warming up. I've done a good solid stretch session, and I feel if you do it right you can actually find yourself sweating a bit by the end of stretching. As for training, I do have some days off, but I would say I train a decent bit during the week but I have no set regime.
I currently use the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition because it shoots 720p in 120fps which allows me to show better detail in certain tricks during tutorials.
What's the benefit in warming up BEFORE stretching? Wouldn't it make more sense to stretch, THEN warm up? What if you pull a muscle trying a warm up because you didn't stretch? I'd assume that by stretching you get your body nice and limber, and then warm up to get the blood flowing, and then train... wouldn't you agree?
Before training, after training, sometimes during depending on how long of a session... and sure maybe even when you wake up or before bed. However you can stretch TOO MUCH so pace yourself, but at least once or twice a day is healthy.
Thank you very much for sharing your flexibility routine Kyle!!! I have done ice hockey, rugby, MMA, Ironman triathlons, and cross fit. . .NOW I have stopped all and am doing Yin and Ashtanga Yoga 6 days a week! I have lived in Mailand China since 1996 and have recently hired 2 private instructors and love the challenge and mind body connection necessary!!! Thanks again for sharing your video and as a novice it really helps me to see it done and to understand your approach! I will forward and encourage my friends to subscribe and implement this and other stretching routines into their daily life!!! Have a kickass 2015!!! Appreciative Andrew
Start slow, and small and work your way up. Learn to breathe and listen to your body when it tells you it's limits. In this video I provide some tips to not progressing up to my level.
I see then. That makes sense. I put myself through a good warm up earlier today and then stretched and found that stretching was more enjoyable as well as more beneficial.
This definitely works! I've only done it two times but i can already see how much it has actually helped me with flexibility, I'm definitely gonna keep doing this.Thank you so much for sharing this video with us! 10/10.
Wow, I just starting out, training my fexibility and a bit of basic muscle (i have no muscles at all). This is just awesome! Thanks for posting this, you have another subscriber here!
thank you for posting this. I need stretches to do but I wouldn't know which ones would help. If you don't mind I'll be making this my stretch routine.
Kyle this is great! But I would suggest(I have great flexibility if that matters)you to do more dynamic stretches for tricking or kicking.I start slowly with axe kicks or other kicks and move one to static stretching,I don't do them for long time.If I don't chose to do tricking or martial arts and just stretch really good I would do more static than dynamic stretches. But that is just personal thing.Stay positive, have a nice day!
Thanks a lot for this, I was searching for something like this. I'm not doing any hard physical activities since 3 years, hopefuly this will help me to get back in form and do tricking once again.
Thank you for this great video! BTW, this is the first time I coment one of your videos though I've been watching them for an year or more :) I would like to ask you for a streght routine! Thanks for sharing! Saludos de Argentina
Everyone has limits, and you have to be smart and listen to your body as it'll tell you where your limits are at. So don't go past that pain threshold, go till you start to feel that pain and then hold it while you focus on relaxing and breathing till you're ready to switch. You're a body builder so you're muscles are always tight, I definitely recommend stretching a bit before working out but DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY AND ALWAYS AFTER... otherwise you wont be able to get someone in a headlock.=P
This is an amazing channel to be honest, I've been looking for a way to stretch and get more flexibility because I'm a dancer and an exercise that's also fun and kind of looks really damn cool when you get it right and I'm really glad I found your channel because I haven't been able to find any other tutorials on how to do it that are this detailed and useful so thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!! :)
Hi, i just discovered your videos and they are pretty awesome ! I have an advice to ask. I used to play a lot basketball and never streched in my life, my hamstrings and adductors are very short and I can't even do the first exercise with putting my back forward... Do you have any special advice for guys like me who are new to stretching and have retracted muscles ? Thanks for answer, I'm from France so sorry for my English :).
just followed along with this for the first time and found it challenging, it really helps hearing you say that the pain is sometimes necessary lol, as it was just in time to make me hold the stretch a little longer xD
Hmm, I see where you're coming from with the muscles being like a rubber band, but I personally don't think it's THAT big of a deal. Especially because there's many great athletes, some who don't even stretch but that stretch before warming up (That's how I've done it all this time and I've turned out pretty decent.) but even some who warm up and then stretch... I honestly feel it's personal preference. I guess as long as you do the stretches properly.
Research says that stretching before physical activity doesn't prevent injuries (it is more likely to have the opposite effect), but the warm-up does. :)
Hay Epic, kind of off topic for this video, but what type of camera do you use for your tutorials and other parkour videos? I am currently in the market for a new better video camera and your production quality is awesome, so i just wanted to inquire as to what you use.
Hey man been doing pk for a couple years but i really want to start getting into tricking to. I have tried a couple random things, but i feel like im missing some basics, what would you consider some of the essential starting points in tricking? it doesn't even have to be a an actual trick. Even ways to get your body ready for tricking. i have noted the stretching part lol thanks!
First, thanks for this video, its really helpful since I'm trying to improve my hip flexibility. How many times a day do you do this routine? also how long are you holding each stretch? Thanks!
hey kyle, I would like you counted your story, ex: years to learn to do what you do, what you learned in parkoour academy of gymnastics or trycking, etc ... THANKS FOR THE TUTORIAL! : D
Thanks this should improve my flexibility even more, I'm glad I found your channel, you could really feel the burn. Can you demonstrate another stretching if all of this is a little too easy for you, thanks, I appreciate it very much!
how long varies on the individual and their training, there is no set rule that says IF YOU STRETCH LIKE THIS, ON THESE DAYS, YOU WILL BE JUST LIKE THAT PERSON... NO.... it doesn't work like that. If you want to be flexible, then you stretch and you train your muscles... it's really that simple. You can't force your body to be flexible, and you also must take care of it, so... practice patience, enjoy yourself, and in time you can reach the level you desire.
I think what makes the most sense physiologically is first loosen up with dynamic flexibility, get your blood flowing, then train, then stretch. Stretching cold muscles is a bad idea; they also stretch best after they have been used. Static stretching before can actually increase the risk of injury as muscles do not contract well after being stretched out. The best way, IMO, to get ready to train is by doing dynamic flexibility exercises like leg swings (just go really gently!).
Hey Epic how could you improve the speed and power of a rotation, like a back full and also how would you improve your balance for moves that require rotations, like a cork, so that the landing is better? THANKS!
This routine xD I love the shoulder rolls in cobra and the backward shoulder press after reaching up! I'll add what I can to my stretching routine which sometimes god on longer than half an hour easy! Haha, but recently I haven't been stretching so much and I can see it. Also you should warm up a little bit before/during these stretches :)
A good tip for the stretch that starts around 2:00 is if you can bring your head down to your leg easily, then start pulling your head towards your foot. This will flatten out your back and give you a better stretch than just touching your leg with your head.
Wow. After attemting to do this i felt like the most unflexible person in the world!^^ Do you recommend to do this every day? If so do you warmup before that? Cause for me it seems harder to do if my muscles are "cold"
this video is amazing almost all these exercises are way better than which I was using totally now gonna stretch everyday with your video till remember all those stuff
Hi Kyle! I just wanted to ask, do i HAVE to stretch just before practicing? can't i just stretch randomly when i have free time? since I'm kinda trying to get a bit more flexible because i've only just started practicing (beginner stuff like handspring, tucks etc) from your videos. I'm no where NEAR as flexible as you, so could i do this on a random daily basis? and also how long would it take for me to get as flexible as you? hahah.
epic, can u please go more in depth with the raiz tutorial. i keep having them look like a weired tornado kick, i think i need to extend my legs more, thanks!
Kyle I'm not as flexible as you yet but I wanted to ask if there's a limit to when you feel the tension as in you can do splits right now but do you feel any tension there or is it normal and comfortable?
i just started today because i really wanted to improve my flexibility since im not really flexible..i will try to do this every day and to be patient with myself since im not that good at holding on to regular routines everyday..
When I am warmed up, I can do side and both front splits almost easily, but when I am cold, I am very far away from that level, so the difference is huge. Do you have any advice for that issue? Thanks
thank you for doing this video!! one question, the stretch with one knee in front at a 90 deg angle, i feel the stretch more with the leg behind me than the leg in front.. how do i stretch the right leg? also i can't keep my butt from lifting off the ground when i do this..
+eeebear It may take time, so just start by relaxing your weight into the ground through your hips first, then as your butt can stay on the ground, when you lean forward you'll feel the right areas. But you may feel it differently since you might be unflexible in the area needed to be able to do the stretch the way i do it. Everyone is a bit different.
EPIC! I still come back to this video 10 YEARS LATER! So thankful for you and your positivity.
This is so wonderful to hear, especially knowing that videos this old still hold some value in today's world! Thank you for sharing that! 🙌🏽
The way I explain it is distributed weight that carries force. Force in which you can use to direct in specific directions to execute precise movements.

I do this every morning and my flexibility has sky rocketed!
Do you do a warm-up before stretching ? :D
Really? I get really really sore
Ooooh cool tip! That's a good way to think about it
Love this!
Let me know how it feels if you continue stretching cold, everyone's mentioning the benefits of warming up before stretching, but the whole time I've been stretching before warming up. Kyle i freaking love your tutorials you have inspired me alot you are the best man!!!
keep it up! :)
Been using this video for 3 years, it's still awesome! Great work Kyle!
I currently use the GoPro Hero3 Black Edition because it shoots 720p in 120fps which allows me to show better detail in certain tricks during tutorials.
I do this almost every day while I'm away at school through the week. I'm so grateful for this. thanks man!

Thank you very much dear Kyle, this is a must for anyone whom cares for a healthy body.
love this vid!!! Been doing this for about 2 weeks now and i can see a huge difference!
Thanks...
just followed along, makes you feel good afterwards, definitely gonna do this atleast twice a week, keep going with your tutorials
I see then. That makes sense. I put myself through a good warm up earlier today and then stretched and found that stretching was more enjoyable as well as more beneficial.
Thank you Kyle! Im watching this tutorial everyday and im really thankful to you !
I hope i can get to your level of stretch as soon as possible !
That was epic! Epic ! Really enjoy the follow along gonna do this everyday now ! Thank you !
im stiff as fuck
I know the feeling.
especially the calf stretch, that one hurts my soul
This definitely works! I've only done it two times but i can already see how much it has actually helped me with flexibility, I'm definitely gonna keep doing this.Thank you so much for sharing this video with us! 10/10.
So how did it go
Wow, I just starting out, training my fexibility and a bit of basic muscle (i have no muscles at all). This is just awesome! Thanks for posting this, you have another subscriber here!

Keep it up !
Thanks a lot for this, I was searching for something like this. I'm not doing any hard physical activities since 3 years, hopefuly this will help me to get back in form and do tricking once again.
I was trying to keep the video short but also, I personally feel like if you do the stretch properly you don't HAVE to hold it for 30 seconds or more.
Thanks for posting this video. I've been looking for a good stretch routine for capoeira. Keep it up!
Helped so much, thanks Kyle or epic whichever you prefer
Kyle you are awsome!!
I searched a lot of time stretching that will be good enough for me.. Thanks Alot!! :)
Thank you for this great video! BTW, this is the first time I coment one of your videos though I've been watching them for an year or more :)
I would like to ask you for a streght routine! Thanks for sharing!

How early do you stretch before you train? Right before or 30 min before etc.?
Hi, i just discovered your videos and they are pretty awesome !

Hey, Epic where you learned this exersises? Do you practiced something else in the past?
just followed along with this for the first time and found it challenging, it really helps hearing you say that the pain is sometimes necessary lol, as it was just in time to make me hold the stretch a little longer xD
Sure!! It's called, Contentment & Compassion. =)
great workout

Thanks for helping
Great routine I do it all the time. You said this was your Basic stretch routine. Would you be willing to share your full stretch routine? Thanks
Thanks for this Kyle 👍🏼
awesome stretches!
Research says that stretching before physical activity doesn't prevent injuries (it is more likely to have the opposite effect), but the warm-up does. :)
This tutorial very helpfull, thanks!
such a good video! just what I was looking for

this week i started doing it every day right after I wake up, is that good? or is better to do only before execice
no doing it after you wake up is a perfect time and also before exercise
how long varies on the individual and their training, there is no set rule that says IF YOU STRETCH LIKE THIS, ON THESE DAYS, YOU WILL BE JUST LIKE THAT PERSON... NO.... it doesn't work like that. I'm pretty sure those first couple stretches will definitely help you with kicking height.

Epic im a huge fan im practicing my backflip hey i got a question for you whats harder backflip or frontflip?
how long do you hold your stretches for?
This is such a great stretch, i'm going to do my best to do this every day.

when is it good to do these stretching stuffs? after training? before sleeping?
Never realized how bad my stretching is until I watched this video and attempted these ! Going to improve my flexibility thanks to this
Thank you, I didn't know that some of exercises are even existed^^ That's all AWESOME!
i thought i was decently flexible, i see my mans go completely flat, what the fuck
Thank you

Thanks! being a guy who's 18, 5'11", and weighs 185lb. Would it still be possible for me to become flexible like that though?
How long do you think will be ideal for a day? or should it be as long as you can go?
When I am warmed up, I can do side and both front splits almost easily, but when I am cold, I am very far away from that level, so the difference is huge. Do you have any advice for that issue? Thanks
would stretching after warming up be more effective in gaining flexibility? would you recommend warming up first for stretching?
How long are you holding each stretch ? Or takes the whole routine as long as in the video ? o.O
Hello epic1, do you warm up before stretching? If so how; light jogging? Also at 1:46 you go into spaceship mode haha. Thanks.
thank you for doing this video!! one question, the stretch with one knee in front at a 90 deg angle, i feel the stretch more with the leg behind me than the leg in front.. how do i stretch the right leg? also i can't keep my butt from lifting off the ground when i do this..

what kyle will say? just be positive
flexibility takes time to gain, just doing a couple of times doesn't mean that u can always do it
ok thanks man, even though i'd rather get tought in person, also where can I practice?
Is there a way to go not have to deal with the pain, i am a bodybuilder and the pain as you stretch is wors than anything else!
