    I was way to dismissive of this when I got it out the box!... It's not all that bad, however, there is one problem!! Subotech BG1525 4x4 Monster Truck.
    Buy it here:

    SkyRC GSM020 GPS:
    www.banggood.c...
    I'm not a massive fan of the looks, but it does have some good features:
    Metal Diff Gears
    Metal Driveshafts
    Powerful Motor (Got over all the terrain I tested it on)
    Full Ball Bearings throughout
    Fully Proportional.
    What it would need to make it better:
    Oil Shocks! (No surprises there!)
    Faster Motor
    Softer Tyres

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 4 роки тому

      cool they went 12 mm hex instead of their older big + sign shape,
      some light weight knobby rally tires on it might help it a bunch.
      a little less top speed but less rotating mass, lower center of gravity, and quicker acceleration, could be more fun in a small space.
      one of the last videos I did was a GPtoys/Subotech quad picked up RTR for 20 bucks, slapped a blue WLtoys A979 body on it to match the funky blue tires... for a little cheapo it jams along pretty good.
      only real upgrade was 800mah 2S lipo, runs a long time on such a small battery and it does itself shut down early enough to be lipo friendly.

    Got this car for Christmas, and I LOVE IT! It runs fast, however the battery sometimes does die off quickly. The grip is amazing and I like to steer at high speeds. And also you can control the speed on the controller. Mine goes faster than on your vid. It comes stock at 75 percent throttle. You can change it for battery save( when you dont need speed) and put it on 100 percent throttle to go as fast as possible. There are upgrades on websites to upgrade to brushless motor to make the performance better (for about 5-10km/h). I didn’t try it so you can do that if you want. Good review! Just out of curiosity, what oil shocks would you recommend that would fit perfectly (No modifications needed.) to improve performance? And, imo knowing the performance is not as good, this looks better than those "flat jobs" that don't look anywhere near like a monster truck. Just noticed what appears to be a "flat spot" in the rear left tyre. Now, about those shocks, Phil?

    I bought one of these for myself recently, and I have to say that I think the comments section here has been a little bit hard on it. Its not by any means perfect, and certainly not as quick as advertised, but for being the toy\hobby grade hybrid that it is, its surprisingly sturdy and capable, and a lot of fun to mess with. Liion batteries are much more stable and forgiving than LiPo, but they are less energy dense and have significantly worse voltage sag and current delivery.
      Makes them great for cheap small Chinese brushed motors, but they melt down with even 540 motor loads.

    The styling is weird, it's so close to being good but not quite there.
    I really don't know why they use 390 motors in 1/10 stuff so much. There's nothing wrong with them fundamentally but a 540 isn't going to break the bank, probably costs about 10p more to make and will be more powerful and less stressed.
    18650 type batteries aren't ideal but they do the job at this price point I guess. The shocks always confuse me though, they could at least make them capable of being filled. I find it really odd that so many Chinese brands give you bearings even in entry level stuff like this but omit oil dampers. Some established brands like Tamiya do the opposite! You get oil shocks but no bearings!
    It's a lot easier to get the right size bearings than it is to find oil dampers that are a good match. For bearings, you just need the right measurements and the world's your oyster. For shocks, you never really know if they will be suitable till they turn up. I know which one I'd rather have to buy myself.
    Doesn't seem to shabby overall but I think it could do with costing a bit less or coming with proper dampers.

    • @modelnutty6503
      @modelnutty6503 4 роки тому

      agree, for a 1/12 scale rwd old school on road pan car, a 390 motor would be good and fast, because they're so simple and light weight. just not enough power for a 1/10 awd basher. a 390 in a 1/12 or even 1/10 crawler can be decent enough too if its geared right, like the "Doomsday".

    buy cheap buy twice - Chinese knock off crap doesn't last and it puts people off the hobby (the reason the RC world is suffering) ...... parts are scarce ..... drives like crap ..... save your $ and spend them on something decent - PS this crap should not be put in the spotlight and killing the industry

    • @TomleyRC
      @TomleyRC  4 роки тому

      Disagree. Cheap RC’s are allowing more people in to the hobby. Everything is made in China... it just varies on quality. Not everyone can afford 200...300....400 or even 1000 for an RC. I have plenty of ‘cheap’ RC’s that have outlasted my named brand stuff. My La Trax Teton broke the Servo on the first run, and the diff on the second run.... where as the $35 equivalent is still going strong! It may be the case in this example, which is why I have given it an honest review and said it seems a bit ‘cheap’ and I wouldn’t personally buy it. I’d say If anything, it actually encourages people to buy better brands when they buy cheap and it breaks, rather than putting them off. I like the X-Maxx... but how many people have spend over $1000 on one and then killed the spur gear on the first run? Or bent a chassis on an Arrma?

      @@TomleyRC the principle is that these knock offs take away pioneering companies that push the RC envelope while chingwah copy for nothing but free easy $$ - no passion invested. Without pioneers there will be no progression and we'll all just get bored of the same crap everywhere - LRP/NOVAk the pioneers of brushless - GONE! . i'm sure someone can do what you do cheaper too... our electronics industry is going to crap because of exactly the same issue. people expect the world for peanuts as that's where it now starts... many major players pulling or winding down investment......

      I think you are 10-15yrs to late for that theory/idea. Everyone jumped ship to China along time ago for the cheap labour and now even the big names have ‘Made in China’ stamped all over them. I used to buy and restore 80s/90’s BMX’s, and from about 96> nearly everything was made in China but prices didn’t reflect the cheaper manufacturing. So maybe it was not all down to China, but greedy companies trying to save a few $$$. I do agree with what you are saying, but in 2020 is just the norm now.
