I actually liked the sound of the exaggerated example more... It really brought the track to life

Hello. I see on your mastering console at least 4 or 5 different compressors and Eq's. When you master a track do you use them all together or one by one?
    thank you.

the Bax EQ is a passive EQ?

No shit I’m actually listening on my iPhone 11 on loudspeaker and can even hear a difference. I own the UAD plugin version of this and the mid side enhancement is amazeballs

Do Mastering studios have any Preamps? curious.

RepublicAllegiance Everything should already be at line level so you don’t need to boost any instrument or mic level up to line but they may have some pre’s for coloration or saturation.

3db is the threshold of hearing or preceiving a change!!

    • @tuckerhill7095

Right but he is talking about changes in single equalizer band gain, the overall dB change of the signal is not equal to the change in a single band, it depends on Q and the behavior of other bands.

I don't know where you've got that from, but have you actually tested that yourself? You can hear far smaller changes than 3db.

The job of a mastering engineer today:
    - "How do I make this louder than Nicki Minaj's latest song?"
    - "Should I use Sausage Fattener or an iZotope Ozone limiter? Hmm decisions decisions"
    - "MONEY MONEY MONEY GIVE ME MONEY RIGHT NOW

I personally remaster existing songs to pull them out of the loudness war especialy by Eq and a touch of compression/limiter. It works quite good...

    PC??? really?

the BAX introduced a lot of sibilance..sibilance is the curse of audio..that, and the loudness wars.
The music was very generic pop unfortunately.
