The funny thing is that it actually causes the opposite effect. Because your components will overheat all of your case fans will have to ramp up their RPMs to keep them at a tolerable temperature resulting in a lot more noise lmao
Corsair has been fucking up hard recently, first with iCUE being a shit show with game integration and it's overall launch, and the recent addition of a keyboard nobody asked for at $100 price point! Where is the K65 Platinum Corsair?
Corsair: I used to like your stuff. However, when Be Quiet, Phanteks, and Fractal are all knocking it out of the park, and old stalwarts like Cooler Master making incredible strides, you have no excuse. What are you doing?
I agree, and especially in cases. I really like what Corsair have done with their other components, but I don't think they've made a decent case since the 570X in 2016.
@@xs3tsunax yeah i agree with that tbh. And its such a little thing they could've easily included. All of the cases they've made recently seem to me like just a little more thought would've gone a long way, but none of them seem fully thought out in terms of features and design.
My quiet build attempt: First of all it's an ITX build. Case is Fractal design Define nano s. I removed all the fractal fans and replaced them with Be Quiet Silent Wings 3 (2x 140mm intake + 1x 120mm exhaust). PSU is a Be Quiet Straight Power 650W, and CPU cooler is Be Quiet Dark Rock 4. Loudest fan is on my EVGA GTX 1070.
i use a Fractal Define R4 (without glasspanel). i put in 6 BeQuiet Purewings2 140mm fans. intake: 1 in the bottom (in front of the PSU with a fangrill), 2 in front; exhaust: 1 in the back and 2 in the top. the exhaust-fans were also combined with a 20% RPM throttle. All fans are then connected to the integrated fan controller (2 with a Y-splitter on each of the 3 fan plugs). And this is setup to medium (7V) speed. This is very low noise, and overpressure cooling setup. It works really good, even in games. It keeps the noise profile low, and the dust out. If more cooling is needed (like in the summer) you can just flip the controller to max (12V) speed and you have your airflow. I got the case for just 25€, because it was a used one, without any fans included but still had all dampening materials in place, and all screws and accessories were still included. And still the old Define R4 makes more sense then this overpriced and fail engineered case in any regard.
The first thing you do is remove the top fan and have it as an intake at the bottom, use your AIO cooling solution as an outflow at the top. It makes no sense to have air, which is warmed by the radiator, as an intake at the top. That defeats the purpose of trying to cool the CPU. All other fans should be intake and the AIO as the outflow. The only reasons I want this case are because of the optical drive bay (because I still use a blueray player) and the fact that it supports SIX HDD and up to four SSD's at the same time. I never cared about noise.

The one thing that the Define case went to was a lighter, cheaper door on the front while giving you a reversible swing on the R5, that I did not like. As for a 5.25" bay, I like them for an Icy Dock and other peripherals, so I wish reviewers would stop acting like they are just for limited use of DVD's or have no significance, they do. Other than that, I still love your content as always!
Couple of yrs ago, I bought a TT Core V31, mostly for cooling, as I had an Antec Sonata for silence/ However, there's lots of mesh on this case, so great for airflow ;) I have 2 front fans, 3 top, and 1 rear - all running at low RPMs, as well I have a Hyper 212 CPU cooler. I don't OC my sys, but Toronto has been hot the last few summers, so it was more for keeping the case cooler ;) The V31 still has optic bay and drive cages, but are placed in such a way that front air flow is possible with air able to pass over/thru the drives for cooling ;) It was only $100 Cdn approx.. I'm happy with it. Thanks for sharing, D!!
I've found that with half decent airflow and quality fans, it's very easy to have a quiet pc. I used a Sama Maxcool case (very budget oriented case), replaced the included fans for 2 Cryorig 120mm fans on front intake, 1 Cryorig 120mm fan on rear exhaust, with a Cryorig C7 cooler on a Ryzen 2200G build for my parents. It was super quiet. So quiet in fact that I could not hear it during normal operation and we could literally hear the Dish TV box 15 feet away over the PC. Don't skimp on your fans and choose cases where the airflow isnt choked and you will have a pleasant time.
You ask, what was my approach to a silent build? I started with a Fractal Define R6 Blackout non-TG which is just an awesome case all around - then installed an NZXT Kraken X72 AIO on the top for the CPU and a Kraken X42 140mm AIO for the old 1080 GPU on the rear... both exhausting... I contemplated getting Noctua fans but decided to try the three included Fractal 140mm fans - two front, one bottom all intake and run a relatively low RPM on all 7 total fans (just the stock "silent" curve profiles)... the fans are good quality... they don't have to run hard and the included rubber mounting washers cut vibration... the Define R6 is an awesome case... I can hardly hear it under my desk and thermals just aren't an issue. Now if I was also going for something pretty to sit on the desk next to me that might be different but my goals were performance and quiet over flashy design so I just went with "what would Batman do?" lot's of matt black lined with sound absorption material sitting under my desk powering my world... I love the Define R6... if you're going to spend US$200 on a case then look no further in my opinion.

OPEN DESIGN! I'm currently rocking an old school Antec 900, but with fans running at 1300 RPM it's silent. Granted, I paid a little extra and swapped the fans with Antec's excellent TrueQuiet fans and I'm rocking a hyper 212 EVO, but even under full load, you only hear the air moving through my system, and not the fans. The minimal air nose that exists is easily drowned out by whatever game I'm playing (seriously, people stand next to my computer and cannot tell it's on.) Great video, giant steaming pile of product.
Best thing I did for noise was get a meshify S2. Never tried out any "silent" branded cases but the high airflow at lower rpm thing works and the temps on my 1080 ti are great.
This was about what I paid for my Be Quiet 900 2 years ago and it is a much more full featured case with silence and cooling balance to perfection considering it contains an 8700K and 2 1080Ti's.
I've found open cases with well designed air filters work best for both cooling and silence. I've seen a lot of open cases that actually create the turbulent noise u spoke of in this review with the top air filter. Running a meshify c now with 2x140mm corsair ML fans as intake and 1x120mm ML exhaust and 2x120mm ML on phanteks tc12dx air cooler with fans maxing around 1000rpm and idling at about 500rpm. Definitely the best setup I've ever had for sound. No obvious turbulent air noise just smooth airflow under load and completely silent under light load and idle.
You guys really need to redo the data points for temps on the Meshify S2. As people pointed out in the P600S video, the fans was mounted really high in the front, which lead to the CPU getting 99% of the fresh cold frontal intake air. With some minor adjustment I'm pretty sure the Meshify S2 will have a pretty chilled out GPU when comparing datapoints. Minor things like that really skews the whole review. Hoping you guys will redo that.
Corsair is going the way of Antec. They were top of the pack a few years ago but the competition has passed them by while they continue to coast on name recognition and a steep brand tax.
Define R6 knockoff that is clearly greatly inferior that costs... More. See, I expected it to not be as good when I first saw pictures, but I also expected it to be around $100. But no...
Dimitri, for my near silent PC build, i have gone the high airflow route for my PC case, using a Meshify C coupled with Noctua Chromax fans for intake and exhaust, alongside a Noctua CPU cooler. The only audible noise is some coil whine from the gpu when using VR
Wow, so we could go down to the Phanteks P600S for an impressive setup, or up to the be quiet! Dark Base 900 Pro/rev 2 and pick up almost complete modular design for all manner of cooling and actual vents on three sides. I haven't seen anyone else copy the idea of being to able slide the motherboard down so the memory modules and vram heatsinks (on high end mobos) don't clash with a big radiator and fan stack in a high end case.
So many companies that insist in gimping the front airflow intake. Why, why?!? For so long I wanted to get the Enthoo Evolv but didn't because of the crappy airflow. Then Phanteks finally had mercy on my soul redesigned it into the Evolv X... and hell yeah, best case ever for the size. Also, that price tag on the 678C shouldn't really matter at this point. People who do their homework won't buy it anyway.
I agree. I was just looking at this case. I have the Corsair Carbide 500r. I haven't upgraded my case since 2012 but since then, have upgraded my components. Mainly I like to keep my case due to the 5.25" bay that cases nowadays don't have anymore. But while this case is very nice, love the features, no way would I pay £170, you can buy a decent GPU for that.
Was wondering why UA-cam is putting ADs at the end of the videos, which plays only after the video skips after being watched? I mean if viewing ADs somehow generates some revenue for the creator then there's no way they could earn properly since most of us (probably >98%) just skip when the outro plays.
The internal layout reminds me so much of the NZXT H440. But all the hard drive support makes cases like these good for an in home NAS ( A super large NAS but still ). If you really want to backup everything =).
no, this case i definitly dont recognize as h440, more like mix of fractal and bequiet. but anyways, this day most pc stand next you your ear and hearing 6-8 harddrives scratching in your ears isnt nice, i have only one hdd and this drive me nuts even if its only holding up games and pictures, nothing in this pc is so loud like this, meanwhile gaming idc cuz my gpu is louder, but if i go for watercooled gpu, rip. A external Nas is a godsend.
I was considering this case and after watching this video I'm really glad to know that it checks all the boxes for me of what is unacceptable in a computer case and I'll be able to save my money for a while.
I’m still loving my 750d airflow case at home. Even tho my mom and dad don’t use my pc. Left it at home cause I was deploying so it would get used and not be just in storage but safe at home I guess. These new cases are disappointing to me.
Seems pretty good for the price. The PSU Department and top plate seem a bit airflow obstructing but that top plate has a reason at least. But for premium and if you have the money I'd still go with something like a Fractal Define.
200$?!?! It's a 99$ (max) case... for 149$ you can get Define R6 (actually there is a promo now on newegg for 119$) or BeQuiet Silent Base 601 or 801... but 2 Benjamins for that? NOPE!
I got mine for 115€ (110€ and 5€ shipping). Discounted from 130€. Guess Fractal Cases are the only computer related thing that is cheaper in europe than in the US Edit: Yes I know they are an European company
yep, they have there headquarter in sweden like bequiet here in germany, so maybe thats why ? cuz everything is still produced in china.@@Someone-ci8wf
@@Someone-ci8wf Well... since it's a European case (designed and made here in EU) I'd say it's only natural for it being on par or slightly cheaper than in the US. TBH. it should be either even cheaper here or much higher there.
@@RafalBorowski I wished the price difference would be like this for products from the US being sold here... Nope they gotta increase it by like 30€ (if you compare it like 1€=$1 even though the euro is currently worth more)
@@Someone-ci8wf Taxes man... taxes... we need to make a "Boston Tea" here in Europe :P EDIT: just maybe we could empty out a full ship of CPU's or GPU's instead ;) (Intel CPUs and nVidia GPUs to be exact - not an AMD fanboy or anything just think intel and nvidia prices are ridiculous at the moment)
Yikes this case is the stuff of nightmares. I've found that the best way to build a quiet system is to get a case with good airflow and pair that with good components and good fans. Good fans can seriously make a huge difference when it comes to your systems volume. All of the fans in my system are noctua NF-P12 redux and they're amazing. They're not inaudible or anything but they have a really neutral sound that is hard to discern from ambient noise, and in my system in helps that they're in a pull configuration behind a front mounted radiator so their sound is baffled. My GPU doesn't have its fans turn on until it hits 60c and so it's completely silent when not gaming. It does all get a bit louder under load but I think it's a tall order to have a quiet and relatively cool system under load.
I need a case with a 5.25, but so few have them. This is nice, but the door swing is too limited. Also, love your "I will just "be quiet."" I want a nice upgrade from the Antex P100. Not that I dislike it, but the sound dampening is cheap in the p100 case, and I need a denser foam option.
@@pixel_vengeur391 32bit is built into every 64bit OS. Which is why I can play old games like Total Annihilation, star craft, age of empires II, and the like. There is a reason you have two program directories, one labeled x86. The fact that they kept cmd around is because of legacy support. Otherwise they would be using powershell almost exclusively. X86 support is built into every modern domestic CPU. Because of this, they are compatible with previous architectures. As a bit of history, the Pentium 4 actually only emulated 64bit support, which is why those processors did worse than the AMD counterparts. As a side note, and an edit to this post, not all old applications work on Windows 10, but it is related to Windows 10, and not the processor.
the screwdriver holes didnt seem inconvenient. they seemed to work just fine? i think "inconvenient wouldve been just a solid panel there, forcing the person to use a shorter screwdriver or angling their screwdriver awkwardly.
Just buy the cougar MX 330-g. Excellent airflow. I have used premium cases before. Cougar has one of the best airflow cases. Phanteks is also good but pricey.
I bought this case a while ago because I liked the look and wanted something quiet - wish I'd seen this before. The case doesn't really make that much of a difference to and is really heavy
same i have 6 fans and 350 mm cooler so its all good not sure wtf he was talking about he was prbl using stock fans which is garbage its nice case dont know wtf he was complaiing about
love your case reviews, I personally go for a mix of both, I like as quiet an operation as possible, but do appreciate that to get the optimum performance a degree of noise is to be expected. this case just doesn't compare to many of the better options for less money, in some cases (pun) even at half the price (meshify)
My try for a Quiet PC? 5 140mm Premium Fans in a Define (2 be quiet Shadow Wings as Front Input, 1 more on the floor providing fresh air to the GPU, 2 Noiseblocker eLoop as output in the back and on Top - the best fans around but they don't like an obstructed Input flow), as well as a SSD main drive with Bulk storage provided by a WD Red buffered by another SSD using Intel RST. Also a good single Tower CPU Cooler with an 120mm Noiseblocker eLoop, all Case Fans PWM Controlled by the Motherboard with custom curves, and an oversized semipassive PSU with good efficiency rating and a large Fan. Also the case doesn't have a Window as that reduces Sound Dampening, and no PSU Bracket as that would obstruct airflow of the Fan in the bottom. And the case is below the Desk and not next to my Ears. Worst Noise offenders in order: The FREAKISH loud Blu-ray Drive (if in use), stuff not buffered by the SSD like AV Scans, and the GPU - while decent (an KFA GTX 1070 EX, 2 large mostly quiet fans) and well supplied with fresh air - can be heard slightly under load.
I Highly appreciate your honest fact-finding and I'm wondering your review on the "SXFI AIR BLUETOOTH AND USB HEADPHONES WITH BUILT-IN SUPER X-FI" Are they the stuff that dreams are made of or are they just stuff???
All I want is the corsair 275r case but with a hinge for the tempered glass panel like this one. That would be the perfect case. It has 360mm radiator support in the front, 240 up top, 120 rear, great cable management, it's nice looking etc. Literally the only downside is the Alan screws like fuck
when fron is closed fully like that then it should be closed fully... or it shoul have "gamemode" that makes the front pop open... atleast at 200 dollars
Feeling very proud of my Carbide 400Q right now. This 678C just seems like a back-step in every way (unless you really want that tempered glass) and much pricier to boot.
I am currently tossing up between this Corsair case and the Define R6 for my next build. There are design aspects of each that I prefer over the other. I agree that the price for the 678C is more than it should be. I regularly use a Blu-ray drive so I need a 5.25" bay and these two cases seem to be the only two decent ones around that would be a step up from the 450D I am currently using. Other than the Fractal, what other options are there with a PSU shroud, USB-C on the front and a good sized window that still has somewhere to mount an optical drive and a door to hide it when not in use?

Surprised that they would rip off the 3-screw Be Quiet design, which is ok, but not elegant in any way

Introducing the new Corsair 678C!
It's ultra quiet because your hardware overheated and no longer works!

Thanks for the honest review! Looks like a dud from corsair, a bit surprising...
Five and quarter inches drive bay are cool for DVD players, also USB and cards reader and hot swappables drive bay!
I feel like this should be named the Define C6. The "C" is for the word copy or cheap, you choose.
Ooooh that NZXT H500 Overwatch Edition... I saw it :p
Have been using the Define R6 for months now. Much
Ouch!! Thanks for your candor in reviewing this case. Edit: I have the Phanteks P600s, so far so good, happy with it.
Basically Define R6 from Corsair.
(I am using the R6 and it is great)
You insult your case, sir. It's a lot better in a number of ways.
@@DrBreezeAir You are correct, so this is the downgrade version of R6 from Corsair, not to mention the R6 is cheaper lol
that 5.25 mount is probably for the pump/res combo units.
Just get the corsair carbide 275r. But this looks nice as well. Just need to drop the price to around 100-150 max
Honestly actually thought about buying this case because of the 5.25 bay, glad I found fractal design though
I was considering this case and after watching this video I'm really glad to know that it checks all the boxes for me of what is unacceptable in a computer case and I'll be able to save my money for a while.
I think those Pcie thumbscrew holes are not a bad way to make removing those screws easier...
I’m still loving my 750d airflow case at home. Even tho my mom and dad don’t use my pc. Left it at home cause I was deploying so it would get used and not be just in storage but safe at home I guess. These new cases are disappointing to me.
If you want a Silent Case with good Airflow, buy the SilverStone Kublai KL07. You are welcome.
Guess Fractal Cases are the only computer related thing that is cheaper in europe than in the US
Edit: Yes I know they are an European company
yep, they have there headquarter in sweden like bequiet here in germany, so maybe thats why ? cuz everything is still produced in china.@@Someone-ci8wf
I love how your criticisms has such a positive tone lmao
Also, love your "I will just "be quiet.""
I want a nice upgrade from the Antex P100. Not that I dislike it, but the sound dampening is cheap in the p100 case, and I need a denser foam option.
Out of curiosity, what do you put in the 5.25" slot?
@@pixel_vengeur391 Blu-ray drive. I also have legacy collection of games I don't want to repurchase.
Don't those game need a 32 bit architecture? Or maybe you're running a virtual machine
Oooh! A sensible pocket knife...
And it's very well build to heat up hot pockets...
actually i have this case and my cpu liquid cooled, both fans on front and actually gives it good thermals and is really quiet
same i have 6 fans and 350 mm cooler so its all good not sure wtf he was talking about he was prbl using stock fans which is garbage its nice case dont know wtf he was complaiing about
@@HackEliteSPARK nah i took the 2 140 mm fans to the front and it works great
Thumbs up for noise rating! BTW can we have same fan (like Silent Wing 3) setup for all cases when you measure noise?
love your case reviews, I personally go for a mix of both, I like as quiet an operation as possible, but do appreciate that to get the optimum performance a degree of noise is to be expected. this case just doesn't compare to many of the better options for less money, in some cases (pun) even at half the price (meshify)
5:03 nice little hint...
We'll ill chim in; If you want low noise imo just get good fans, and coolers. I dont think the case will matter to much.
For this price, I would get a Lian Li PC-011 Dynamic, a Thermaltake View 71 or a CM H500P Mesh.
my case is pretty open
I have a custom loop and have all fans run as slow as possible.
I only really hear the pump.
Your obession for low noise ! I prefer frwaking cool temps
I Highly appreciate your honest fact-finding and I'm wondering your review on the "SXFI AIR
BLUETOOTH AND USB HEADPHONES WITH BUILT-IN SUPER X-FI" Are they the stuff that dreams are made of or are they just stuff???
I prefer the low rpm open case aproach that way if i want to i can get higher airflow
5:00 was so smooth
„I‘ll just be quiet“ 😂 Shots fired! 😎
I suspect this case may have been made for non-heavy usage and non-gamers but still, I wouldn't call it lazy. instead, it seems to be more a rush job.
OK so it's overprices, uninspired etc.. Then what do you recommend for a full ATX case?
Loved the roasting. Its been a while.
Nice looking at first glance.
Nice air filter.
Nice to include a 5.25".
I am out of compliments.
Still waiting for the hyperX mic review
All I want is the corsair 275r case but with a hinge for the tempered glass panel like this one. That would be the perfect case. It has 360mm radiator support in the front, 240 up top, 120 rear, great cable management, it's nice looking etc. Literally the only downside is the Alan screws like fuck
Corsair is doing strange stuff lately! Nice touch on the i’ll be quiet! You’re a legend Dimitri!
Meshify c w/5 fans at 60% fan speed. My Ryzen system is overclocked and so is my 980ti and I still manage to keep them below 76c. Noctuas FTW.
0:05 Is that the H500 OW case I spot there? ;)
when fron is closed fully like that then it should be closed fully... or it shoul have "gamemode" that makes the front pop open... atleast at 200 dollars
maybe they should revise the Graphite 600T, that case looks like worth every penny.
Someone was very creative when choosing that product name
Feeling very proud of my Carbide 400Q right now. This 678C just seems like a back-step in every way (unless you really want that tempered glass) and much pricier to boot.
put all fans as exhaust and let it use negative pressure from the bottom of case ?
Last time I was this early Corsair still knew how to make cases.
0:18 I'm pretty sure i have that exact same pocketknife
PC Case ASMR at 0:19
"as your components die in their own heat"... man that's brutal!!
