Brendan, Where did you purchase your new block & parts from and what was the total cost for you on this project? I'm considering doing the same thing with my 1998 Volvo Penta 4.3l boat engine but might also just replace the whole system with a larger engine if the cost savings aren't significant.

I got a short block from S&J engines in Washington and had it shipped to Utah. If I remember correctly the block ran about 2k in 2020. And then just a gasket kit and head bolts, another $200-$250. Just the Felpro and AutoZone special. The heads I had machined at a local shop I think that was about $500-$600. Your mileage may vary there. Our boat was a 21’ so, pretty big for a V6 and it still got me up on slalom ski. But V8’s are more fun haha.

Can you post all links for parts?

Hey Branden, I’m looking to buy a 2005 Four Winns 18’ with a seized Volvo Penta 4.3 GL only 165 hours. Would I start with just buying the block?

@@erickup823 I would not start off by buying a new block. I would tear it down and see what it needs, and then take it to a machine shop and see if they can salvage it. Only if they can’t save it I buy a new block.
