  • Hot Dog's are becoming a staple for the Steam Culture brand.. maybe because they are just so good! Today, Brent talks about how to cook a perfect hot dog with Steam. Just say no to "Dirty Water Dogs".
    Don't be fooled into eating a "Dirty Water Dog" ! When you get a hot dog make sure it is steamed. Steam helps cook the dog fully while not making it water logged. Also, make sure you only eat it with mustard!

    "The Classic" as I call it is mustard relish and ketchup. I don't have that too often, mostly I go for mustard and onions.

    I just bought the nordicware hot dog microwave steamer (literally just a piece of plastic) and I’m not sure if there’s any real difference between that or cooking it normally. Will have to try it more I guess.😕

    The problem with your second method is that the hot dogs are still partially submerged in water. If you're truly steaming hot dogs, they're being cooked purely by gas, not liquid, as in your first method. If a hot dog is touching water, even partially, it's going to lose some of its flavor to the water.

    • @Senriam
      @Senriam 2 роки тому +5

      Steam is not a gas, it is a compound substance comprised of water vapor (a gas) and minute liquid droplets of water.

      For those of us without full steamers, it's an alternative way to get 'similar' results. I've done this way several times, and the dogs always come out amazingly flavorful.

    I really like your steaming method but my only question is how much water did you pour into the pan?

    • @wareboilers
      @wareboilers  5 років тому +5

      You really only need "enough" water in that pan. You are not wanting to "boil" the dog but have enough water in there to create enough steam. So it sort of depends on how big the pan is and how many hot dogs you are cooking. Best way to figure it out is just play around with the amount and see which is best for your cookware. Thanks for watching!

    I made hotdogs earlier tonight and I was wondering why they were never as good as just a hotdog stand or sporting event or the movie theater. So I googled this, just made 2 and man, it was pretty much superior to the boiling way, you don't get that water juice all soaked into the dog, I put it in from frozen and it took 3 or 4 minutes but they turned out good, will turn out better in the future lol.

      Yes, cut in half lengthwise & fry in a bit of oil or in a non stick pan, delicious. Putting the hotdog in water, is not steaming to me. When I do steam them in instant pot, I wrap buns in foil & toss them in the instant pot also.

      Serious answer: it depends on the hot dog. I steam Sabrett's natural casing dogs, I deep fry Hummel's natural casing pork and beef dogs and I usually broil, grill or pan-fry skinless hot dogs. Your method needs to match your dog.

      So unfortunately we don't really have answers for either of your questions. It would make sense to say that once a hot dog has been cooked it's good to go but once it cools, warming it up might reduce the "freshness". So batching them out in steam to be warmed up later is probably better than serving up cold hot dogs. Thanks for the comment and good luck with the party!

    This is probably my favorite way of cooking hot dogs, except for grilling. Boiling them removes flavor.

    Lets see, placing a dog in boiling water is a boiling dog,,,,duh. But he thinks putting the same dog in a hot pan of water isn't boiling? I don't think he does know the difference.

    • @DentalBeaker
      @DentalBeaker 4 місяці тому

      I disagree. He’s steaming the dog there. The dog isn’t submerged in water therefore it’s not being boiled. I mean that’s the definition of boiling. I think he was just offering an alternative method if you don’t happen to have a steam basket.

    a hotdog in a skillet with boiling water is boiled hotdog!
    that's why you need ketchup on your hotdog so you learn 😜

      wrap the bun loosely with a paper towel and place in a chinese bamboo steamer over a pan of simmering water for 5 minutes. bamboo is better for steaming bread because water doesn't condense on the bamboo making the bread soggy.
