  • The discovery of a young woman's body in a dark alley in Liverpool one rainswept morning in September 1970, led to one of the city's biggest manhunts. But in spite of the huge efforts of Liverpool CID, detectives were stumped. It began to look like the murder of Lorraine Jacob would be one of those cases which are condemned to remain unsolved mysteries - but, in the most surprising way, it was not.

Very strange that Lorraine’s friend never came forward to report the incident with Harvey’s cameras. The case could have been resolved and the murderer punished. Or Richardson’s landlady who could surely have reported the girls visit. Sad that Lorraine was buried in an unmarked grave.

Well, I am extremely grateful to you for beginning a series of printed books from these episodes! I just received my copy from Amazon!!!! Yes!!! It’s here already, and I am delighted!
    Although my glaucoma has been
managed well for years with some simple eye drops used daily, I do find that I get more easily fatigued when reading on the Internet. Of course, I can enjoy your work by just listening, but I really find your drawings and historical photographs, along with some new ones you have taken “on location” while doing research, to add a great deal to both my enjoyment and understanding of the subjects..
THANK YOU for taking that step of going into print. I am hardly the only reader who will be enjoying these volumes, and as I have with your other published books, I will be buying them again for birthday and holiday gifts throughout the year!
Did you know that in Norway, it has become a recognized national pastime to read crime stories during the long winter months? It may be odd, but it’s true! My husband’s family is Norwegian, and the Sons of Norway Magazine in America that comes to members, as we are, has written about this!
I think it’s very very sad that UA-cam makes inexplicable decisions that harm the work done by some of its best creators! This month, several of my favorites have left the platform altogether, and have been looking into similar platforms where fewer creator headaches exist.
You once mentioned that your daughter has been helping you somewhat with various technical and sponsorship things, and I’m hoping she will help you find other, likely better!, places to feature your excellent writing and drawing. There just must be some “creator owned” outlets. Here there is one called “Maximum Fun” for all kinds of podcasts. There must be others for writers and artists!
I’ll continue to enjoy your work, and I will follow it wherever it finds a congenial home - especially in print!
So, you are stuck with this long winded fan!!!!

Best wishes on your written versions of your stories. It's a shame UA-cam doesn't tell you what phrase or word caught the attention of their algorithms and caused them to flag your last video. If it makes a difference, it showed up on my UA-cam. Perhaps it's the individual restrictions that some of your viewers put on their UA-cam accounts that flagged it?

On the other issue Mark, I can access the Betty Williams case video behind a VPN and also without a VPN, although I can see some comments on there that indicate that others were having difficulty viewing it. I am sure that this is not 'human' intevention, rather the platform's use of algorithms which are picking up key words and putting certain restricions in place. I get certain comments of mine blocked / deleted because of this (although, touch wood, never on your channel). Doubt that your entire channel would be taken down, but I feel sure that, whatever happens, the quality of your content is so high that your followers here will support you wherever you wish to go. I think UA-cam is an idiot. Article not conducive to our advertisers? Then get different advertisers. It's obvious there are people interested in these stories. Just put a marker of some kind so people can find them and advertisers will know what to avoid. My roommate and I pay a small monthly amount to avoid the ads altogether. I quit watching t.v. because of the ads. I don't quite get why they'd frown on your stories. It's not like you have used copyright material without saying where it's from. Written stuff from you. Music from others. As we've seen with the Ed Sheeran case, people will try to claim ownership of what isn't theirs. It's unfortunate that UA-camrs get shafted because of this. Anyways, it was another enjoyable listen. Thank you as always. Stay safe.🤗

Only the files will reveal the extent of their inquiries and these will probably not be released in my lifetime...

He could have left no note and this would never have been solved, not even by the 'historical standard' these cases are judged by.
Although I agree with others - I want to know more about the pictures, and how this came about. It's quite a leap from working in a bar and knowing a customer to having them visit and taking photos. It does imply a stronger connection of some kind.

It is all somewhat recent, and her children are, of course, alive and living with the consequences of all of this. My chief reason for covering this case was the unusual circumstance of the matter coming to light almost 40 years later. When the police files are released (probably not for some decades yet) there will, I am quite sure, be a great deal on file about Lorraine, the photos, and their relationship.

It occurs to me that the police have only one reason to keep the investigation files 'sealed'. That would be to protect themselves, in the event that the name and related incident involving of Harvey Richardson had come up and that they had failed to investigate it thoroughly enough. Without the benefit of actually reading those files, this is just a theory, of course. Even with the best of intentions, a failure of this magnitude would surely be a major embarrassment. Let alone undermining public confidence in local law enforcement, especially for people who may have moved up within ranks or even politically. . . . When cases like these are 'Unsolved', all we really have is logical conjecture & our instincts. It takes a great deal of research & long hours to produce such thorough videos, especially when You have included accurate images of the people & places concerned. Just want You to know that this has NOT gone unnoticed. Truly appreciating Your interpretations of these events. Thank You, Mr. Maguire !!!

Mark, I've since listened to your fine story of this incident. As I was saying to myself, why didn't the girlfriend implicate the killer about the camera theft, you addressed this issue. If Investigators had just been given that lead. He would have paid for his crime. With the resources applied to her murder investigation, I'm sure they would have caught him.
Another fantastic video, even though it was a frustrating investigation without the proper outcome.

Many thanks, Michael - I completely agree. It seems quite inconceivable that the incident concerning the cameras did not come up, and yet that is the police claim. @They Got Away With Murder that's always one issue that amazes me about the Law Enforcement Investigation File in Britain, they can be sealed for years. Here in America, as I'm you're aware, Law Enforcement Investigation Materials are considered Public Record and must be released for public consumption once the incident has a conclusion and the Investigation is complete. FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) mandates and only a Judges order can sealed. And even then, Suit can be filed and taken up to the SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) for a ruling, if necessary.

Yet, I’ve seen the best, most original and educational channels (who incidentally know what a primary source is) have found themselves in YT’s crosshairs. They do put up a notice advising viewers that the content deals with suicide and you have to press a button saying you understand and wish to proceed, but this is often displayed on other channels when the subject concerned is suicide. The printed form is a good idea but I like listening to stories. Harvey Richardson is an unusual murderer - do we assume this was his only murder? He led a seemingly reclusive life in his latter years and interestingly, kept his folder of his murder victim. When he entered a hospice he had time to destroy its contents but he didn't so maybe it was his "legacy" to the police.

Unfortunately, many important facts were overlooked by the detectives and police regarding Lorraine's murder, if you were the detective on this case, this case would have been solved during Richardsin's lifetime and he would not have gone unpunished.;) It affected me greatly that Lorraine who was not lucky in her life, after her death, was interred in an unmarked public grave , as if she had never existed.

Thank you very much, Madonna - yes, a sad, premature and quite unnecessary end to Lorraine's life. It also struck me that she lived just 400 metres (Russell Street) from the place she died, in Rodney Street: and yet the two streets could not have been more different: Rodney Street is an elegant street of well-to-do people, in which a Prime Minister (Gladstone) was born, and Russell Street (in 1970) was at the other end of the social spectrum... The two worlds met here on that September night...

@@TheyGotAwayWithMurder But was it? Richardson comes across to me as someone who may have had autism or something of that nature. He was certainly involved , but if he had some kind of neurodiversity that might explain his obsession and why he referred to himself in the 3rd person. Because he was projecting himself? I grew up Thinking of myself in the 3rd person, and it was only recently when I realised I was doing it again, that I worked out I stopped around the time I married! As far as I know I have not killed anyone.
I put it down to being a frustrated writer. By using the 3rd person I Can disassociate, but I can also project that 3rd person into other people's situations and thought processes. That is what writers do. It is called Empathy. You will never Be that person, but you can attune to Them better.
If a friend of mine is having an issue I never say 'I would...'I say 'have You considered...'
Not that I think Richardson had any empathy at All, I am just saying that not everyone who thinks in the 3rd person is a homicidal maniac!
in fact it was a very long time before I realised not everyone does it!
The odd thing is, when I write, I write in the First! It is my way of getting inside the character. And because the emotions are not happening to Me, but a projection, I can write more honestly. This should make sense to you, as you are very proficient writer and I am just a wannabe.
I think there is a whole novel just in this one case. It is like buying a jigsaw from a charity shop and getting home to find all the major pieces are missing. All you have are the peripheries. Which is a mystery in and of itself.

Their 'human' masks are so well-cultivated and perfectly-fitting that they are almost completely indiscernible from real human beings. I hope Richardson's mind was plagued with guilt and his life an anxiety-ridden misery - but somehow, I doubt that was the case. I hope Lorraine Jacob's children and family have lived wonderful, full lives, met beautiful people and realised their deepest-held dreams - I am sure they will have been watched over with pride, and with love, by one they had taken from them many years ago.
