You read my mind i just recently thought how cool it would be to learn harmonica cause i never understood it
*Tip:* buy a harmonica neck holder so you can have your hands free to play guitar, piano, etc. This is extremely difficult thing to master but helps you understand how the harp should be played with accompaniment of other instruments.. learning to play harp with JUST the harmonica is not a good idea. Its like how people get pretty good at guitar, but because they've only practiced by themselves, they find it extremely difficult to play with a band. You need to play/listen to another instrument to accompany the harmonica. Even if you just play a song on spotify and play along with your harmonica.
*Tip #2:* this one is obvious and was mentioned by Marty, make sure youre in the right key. You dont necessarily need a G harp for a song in G, but a relative minor ir play the 5th of the key.
An advantage of the harmonica is you can take it anywhere. Even your car.

The Harmonica is a music worthy of learning by itself and having your full attention. Plenty of guitarists can play a few riffs on the harmonica sure, like Bob Dylan for example. But that's "really" playing the harmonica.

The first thing that you never mentioned.Was how hard it is to hit a single note.Most people can't do it right away. Takes quite a bit of practice to be able to do without ending up blowing a chord.
Not really. It’s easily achievable within the first few days of playing.

Found a harmonica at a yardsale recently for a dollar. My first instrument I learned was the digerdoo, then I learned (am learning) guitar. Finding the harmonica interesting because some of the techniques i learned with the didge, transfer to the harmonica, as well as some things from the quitar. Music is truly magical to me
Thanks for this video, Marty! Harmonicas need a serious comeback. I've been playing Lee Oscar's and Special 20's for years. It's difficult at best to find fellow players, and people who give lessons are rare. I'll have to try these new pentatonic harps!

Blues harmonica is one of the coolest things out there. Some of the great blues players really make some sweet sounds with the harp. There are not many people out there that are a master of the harmonica. I encourage you to pick one up and try it. You can take it anywhere and you can always practice.
If you’re looking for a harmonica master, check out the Australian, Ambrose Kenny Smith and his band The Murlocks. He fucking SHREDS on the mouth harp!

Just found this video and thought I'd comment I just bought my first harmonica and it's in the key of e minor, so many songs are in e Minor and it's great to be able to jam along and actually sound like you are able to play like a pro. Thanks for all the great videos keep it up bro!
You’re gonna want to use an A (2nd pos minor) or D (3rd position) to play to tracks in Em. Very few songs will mesh well playing an Em harp in 1st position.

Just this weekend I searched UA-cam for harp lessons! Have had a key of C harp for a while and never learned! (Didn’t know enough to know what key to get!)
Key of C is the prefect starting key. You play it in cross harp (2nd position) in the key of G for blues.
Dang I feel like im learning so quick my first dayI find it hard to do a steady transition from breathing in and out

Hohner blues harps are a tricky starter harmonicas. I had to do a lot of work to get it playable. Maybe try a special 20 or a budget fender deluxe harmonica.

I've been using a C harp when playing Am blues 🤷♂️
I'm 43 years old now. How long does it take to learn a few songs and then make up your own. My Dad best friend Grant was a professional musician (he was a music teacher when he was young). I think he just told me to follow a few numbers and you can play a short tune (that sounds amazing). I'd be about 5 years old though. If you can just follow a sequence of numbers to produce a professional sounding song I'll buy a good one. And start learning.
