    Thank goodness for some expert advice, this gal knows her stuff and cares about the pooch too. I am a groomer with 15 years experience and completely concur with your advice about nothing shorter than a 7f for all the reasons you state. I am in Australia and a dogs coat protects against the heat & cold. Please never clip your collies or Chow Chows or Shepherds or Retrievers or Labs etc etc.

    I'm SO GLAD to have found your channel! I love that your methods are so incredibly supportive & comforting for both our dogs & us. My poor Chorkie (Chihuahua-Yorkie) needs her nails trimmed desperately & could really use a haircut. I've been combing through video after video in an attempt to learn how to do these things myself during the COVID-19 lockdown. After watching your nail trimming video, I'm confident I can do that. Hopefully after watching this video again (I've seen it once, ordered my clippers, & now that they've arrived I'm watching it again, just to make sure I've got it down), I'll be ready to put my baby into the bath & get her makeover started! Thanks for doing these invaluable videos!!

    Just bought the Wahl Km10, it came with the 10 blade, and I got the Wahl original Comb Attachments ( they had a new version of Wahl combs attachments, but they looked flimsy or less sturdy) so I went with the original ones ...and of course the Andis Cool Care & Oil. The KM 10 CLIPPER is AMAZINGLY QUIET wow wow, just wow ! Trying to get an attachment on was TRICKY, but I get it now...the spring action on the bottom lip.

    thank you! i never had dogs that needed grooming before, then got a Burnadoodle, and ended up with my mom's Schnauzer when she went into an assisted living place. the lady i was taking them to was chargine 5 for the little one and 120 for the big one. in two years it went up to 80 for the little one and 170 for the big one... so invested in two sets of clippers... to be fair, i try to do it while they're sleeping so many times they are done on one side and not the other, but we're not entering any competitions! nice to get the skinny on these things.

    Hi Amy. Nice video! I also use blade wash. I use it after brushing the hair out of my blade and before oiling it. I spend a great deal of time cleaning my blades because it’s so important. I was talking to a woman online and she didn’t even realize you were supposed to oil the blades! She said how do you clean them and where do you put the oil? It made me wonder just how many people out there were neglecting them like that! Love ya! Mary 🥴

    I have an f1 GoldenDoodle who will be 5 months old on the 29th of this month. I live in Rural central Texas, so not a lot of groomers around. Fortunately have a Church Lady friend who got a similar Doodle about 2 years ago, so I've started picking her brain about her experiences. I'm 75 & have never owned a dog that needed this much attention for grooming; just weekly brushing & Nails. I'm spooked about nails as I've gone too short before, so I'm looking at every video I can to see how to do a better job. My vet will do it for a reasonable fee, but only if I take Jack in for shots or a procedure. I don't want Jack to have a bad experience, so I'm working hard on that skill, so I won't hurt him. Been watching your videos non-stop for about a month, and you inspire confidence Trimmers won't be here for a few weeks, so Jack is getting combed & brushed almost every day. There is just SO much to do with a puppy. Thanks for all you are sharing. I'm watching daily! LindaMc outside Bandera, TX.

      @sunnygirl87 3 роки тому +1

      Make sure you have good nail trimmers. She suggests some. And know, with time and use, they dull. Buy new ones. I was SHOCKED at how new nail clippers sliced so easily.
      Take little nips. If you practice on a few toes a day, you make it a habit for your pup!

    I have 2 schnauzers. One 2 and one 16. I have to take great care of my 16 year old. Groomers don’t like older dogs because you have to groom in increments of time. Takes a long time. I am about to order clippers because mine is at least 30 years old. Just had it sharpened and cleaned by a professional. I will follow the guide in clipper blades. Thank you so much for all your information. So, what jacket (grooming frock) do you use...I have dog hair all over me...I now wear a mask. But my cloths I have to wash right after I do any clipping. I will look on Amazon. Thanks again.

    GSD female. I want to clean up her sanitary areas, tummy and hind leg area. I bought a Sminiker with adjustable balde (.8 mm to - 2.0 mm) and 4 clip on combs (3n - 6- 9- 12 mm). Of course I just now saw your guide for buying clippers with detachable blades (sniff-sniff). I may have to return the Sminiker.

    Great Video!! Some of these groomers who have 200k suck! You are truly a good example... I have a German Malinois (German Shepherd / Belgian Malinois Mix). She is mainly INDOOR with me. I know not to shave her double coat and that it can take 2 years (give or take) to regrow, risk promoting bug bites, and ruin protection against the sun, etc.. That's why I mention she's indoor with me mainly. Do you think cutting with a 1-2inch clipper would be bad? What do you think is ideal in regards to utilizing clippers? I brush her, I use deshedding shampoo + conditioner once a month sometimes once every 2 months, but I'd like to ask your opinion on this topic so I make the safest decision - after I compare your answer across other research of course because I care THAT much :)

I see you understand the purpose of your beautiful dogs coat and the importance of properly caring for it so it can do it's job for your pet. Please watch this video COMPLETELY as I made it for pet owners with double coated dogs. I want to hear your thoughts in a comment after you watch that video:) Cutting into a double coat will absolutely effect the regrown and undercoat to top coat ratio. Hope this helps my friend:) ua-cam.com/video/mNffp7wdN3E/v-deo.html

      Sister are you still having a webpage and sharing in the comments? This is the end of September 2023 I was going to buy a Clipper for a lady friend in the Philippines and send it from the USA she's trying to make a living there she's got children it's very very difficult she used to be a groom or working for the veterinary for several years and I said well maybe I can buy you a Clipper set and I watched your video thank you for the information but now I see the prices of them are very high is this normal is this overpriced the km10 Wahl is about 275 dollars plus I need to get her the oil and the cool spray and one through seven blades thank you for the advice but should I be looking for a bargain price or is that about it $275 for the clipper? Because I'm poor and it's just going to be a gift and sent to a foreign country what do you think is this price to high thank you

    I got everything I wanted and first time used the Wahl KM10 with blade #10 and F7 yesterday. My Labardoodle looks like he walked out from the groomer shop. Wish I can send you a picture. My husband said that my dog has the best hair cut. His hair looks evenly. Wow!!!! What a big difference result using the good tool. I was scared at the beginning and keep replayed your VDO to get it right and make sure it safe for my lovely boy. The only area that I still can’t do it is around his paws. The V shape cut. He doesn’t stand still. Any advise/tip?

    Just today, I decided I will do my pet grooming with my own yorkie, and thus I just ordered at amazon a Wahl Clipper Pet Pro Combo Kit - Model 9284. I wonder if you can tell me what blade size do you recommend to use with a yorkie? By the way, aren't detachable blade clipper too expensive to use by a non-professional at home? I believe the clipper which I mentioned above is a non-detachable clipper. Thank you for your informative video.

    I have yorkies and shih tzu. I have the k wahl 10... thanks to you. Do I need all of those different sizes blades. If not which should I have besides the 10. The same question for the clipper guards.

    Hi, thanks so much for your videos, I’ve learnt so much and now grooming my mums 4 standard poodles. I purchased the wahl KM10 and were great for the first 3 grooms then they’ve started getting really hot after 2 minutes running and are catching the coat.
    I’ve cleaned and oiled the blade but so many times but makes no difference. Do you think they are faulty or am I doing something wrong?

      Debbie D hmmm... I have never experienced that with this clipper. However, I know they come with a 1year warranty. Maybe you should call the device number and talk to a rep.

    I want to buy the clipper set you talked about, but Amazon is so expensive. I'm 81 on S/S and can't afford my groomer anymore so have to learn to trim her myself. Is there less expensive kit I can buy? Plus scissors. My Maltese Cheri needs my help to keep her cute. I love your video and instructions. So happy I found you on UA-cam.

    Hey! I love your videos, they are very informative. I recently adopted a dog from a dog shelter. His undercoat is extremely matted right next to the skin, maybe with a 5mm growth underneath the mats. In my city there are no reliable professional groomers, so I need to remove his coat myself. He’s got a very thick double layered coat. You say in this video that anything below a 7 is dangerous for the dog’s skin. But I would need to go with a 6mm-5mm blade in, otherwise the mats will not come out. What would you advise in this situation?

      @GoGroomer  8 місяців тому +1

      Any video on my channel shaving matted dogs you will see I use a 7 blade: my choice.

    Just found this video and you did a wonderful job explaining! I'll be watching more.
    I have a very figity Maltese. He will not even let me brush his legs most of the time. He's very fragile (?) and will yelp when I touch certain body parts as if he's in pain. Vet said he's not in pain. Very fine hair. I want to keep his hair length about 1-1/2 inches. (Trimmed... NOT shaved)
    What size blade and/or clip should I use?
    It come with these comb sizes.....
    3mm/6mm/9mm/12mm/15mm/18mm
    No where does it say what the fixed blade size is.
    I just ordered a oneisall set (fixed blade) as it is the only one I could get without waiting WEEKS with all the backorders from covid situation and doesn't cost a hundred dollars or more.
    I imagine I'll return it for one that I can use interchangable blades. I still have to wait 2 weeks (?) for it to arrive.

    This video is awesome!!! I really appreciate you showing how to care for the clippers at the end. Just a few questions. Is it possible to wait too long after caring for the clippers and have to re-oil before clipping? Where can you go to sharpen clipper blades? Just wondering if it's better to just buy new ones when they don't cut as well vs pay some service fee to sharpen. Thank you!!!

    Hi Amy! Thank you SO much for your videos! They are saving me and my dog's high maintenance fur during quarantine! I'm forever grateful! Question: Is there a more eco friendly/ sustainable substitute or way to care for the blades besides the not super eco friendly/ sustainable looking Andis Cool Care? Thank you!!:))

    • @GoGroomer
      @GoGroomer  4 роки тому

      Alcohol followed by vegetable oil? I never tried this but the alcohol will sterilize and the veggie oil will lubricate. Of course only use a tiny bit of both:)

    • @TailWaggyDog
      @TailWaggyDog 2 роки тому

       @Go Groomer I know this answer is long after the original question, but may help others along the way...
      I think that using the Andis cool care IS more "sustainable" as caring for the blades will stop you needing to replace them, and delay needing to have them sharpened. Their manufacture would take a lot of energy, more than the spray is 'bad'.
      Chemically, vegetable oil goes gluggy at high temperatures/as it evaporates and can also go rancid as it oxidises, NEVER use veg oil for lubricating, only for eating ;-D never on anything like bike chains, sewing machines or clippers.. that goop on your cookwear is vegetable oil residue. It is chemically "very stable" which actually means 'near impossible to break down'.
      This residue will utterly ruin your blades, stop them from sliding over each other and builds up faster as the blades get hotter. This is a job for very high quality mineral oil.
      It is easy to make these mistakes while trying to consider sustainability, but Sustainability starts at manufacture, and loving and caring for the precious things we need to use so they don't need to be replaced unnecessarily.

    I have an Anatolian Shepherd in Texas. For his comfort, we give him monthly hair cuts. Occasionally, I'll pay to have it done, but that's about $150 for a decent clip. He's also lazy. He just lays down and I clip one size at a time. He's pretty awesome. What size blade would you recommend? He is double coated. It normally takes about two hours to clip him.

    Hi! Thank you for all the info. I am trying to purchase some tools and gain some knowledge to practice on my own dogs to see if I would enjoy being a groomer. I looked on amazon and there are so many options I wanted to just purchase what you recommend. But almost all of the product you have linked is out of stock. For a very new beginner should I just purchase anything and start from there or should I try getting the tools from a different source. Thanks for your help!
