I’m glad people get to see this because it really communicates why Pulis are such a captivating breed. Their intelligence really comes across and dare I say it because that’s the right word, their charm. I have two. In my opinion they are easier to care for than say, a yorkie or a shih tzu. (I don't like shaved coats). You never brush this, you just need to keep the debris out and then give them an hour long bath every few months.
@embernocte how do you keep things from catching in the cords? Instead of brushing the dog do you sit and just pull debris out? I have only had short haired breeds and very curious
I'd love to repeat the comment I left for a Komondor as I love to talk about my boy. I grew up with a Puli dog. What a fine boy he was! So independent and intelligent, he rode a bike with me. He was sitting on a trunk like a second bicyclist in a human pose with his front paws on the back of my saddle. Each time I took a bike out, he would get so excited. When he wanted to get into the house from the yard, he wouldn't move until someone said, "Please come in". No one taught him that, he just decided so. I don't think we did everything correctly with his coat but we certainly did our best. It was pre-internet time, we didn't even know we had a Puli. Some kids tried to put him in a dumpster when he was a puppy, a driver from Grandpa's work rescued him and took to the workplace. That's how he ended up with us. Grandma didn't even know she had a dog before a black cloud started sniffing her leg in the night. She got so scared she almost killed Grandpa. :D He was like a brother to me, we danced together and I taught him tricks and cleaned his coat. He had his own bathtub outside. Only recently, 13 years after his death, I was talking about him and it hit me -- I can Google a dreadlocked dog on the internet. I saw the photos and literally cried for so long. We always thought we had a mixed-breed dog and that we won't see another one like that. I'm biased but he was certainly a cutie, even compared to his own breed. To think that he almost ended up in a dumpster! I would love to have a Puli someday when I have a house of my own.
I used to have a Puli too. He was the best dog/friend ever! In summertime we used to go to the lake together and eventhough he hated water, always gave it a try to swim with me.
Thank you! This is a dream come true. As a kid, I had a puli. Or perhaps it's more accurate to say that I was part of a puli's family. They are smart, water-resistant, independent, loyal, stubborn, and selfless creatures. Thanks for taking such good care of Rosy
@@morganablackwater2017 They're not as popular! Which is a shame. There is a lot of work that goes into having a corded dog. Vanessa has groomed a Komondor, I think it might be on her other channel if not this one.

Ok, I have a REALLY important question… How do you keep your hands nice?! They always look so lovely and they are in water so much! It is as remarkable as your observation of dog behaviour. Love your content so much!
Bcz she's young, .. should be wearing gloves, especially when using pesticides/ flea dips. & Mask , later in life , from all that dog hair, dander, can develop groomers lung, form of copd.
She does wear a mask. Almost every time she uses the high-velocity drier. She's been doing this long enough and is professional enough, im sure she knows all about groomers lung. Also, you're onyl assuming she does flea-dips or pesticide work, because she's never shown that on her channel. Maybe she doesnt allow dogs with fleas in, since she does this in her home and has many dogs of her own. And as for water/soap, with modern moisturisers, I'm sure her hands will age at a standard rate and not be any worse for wear. I'm also certain that the dog shampoos she uses is way less damaging than, say, grease-fighting dish soap. @@Memow-pk1ng

OMG this dog is gorgeous. Her cords were so fluffy after drying & I prefer my hair to look fluffy instead of smooth. I have locs too but they're only back shoulder length. They already get heavy when wet so I can imagine how heavy her coat was while shampooing & rinsing. I let my hair air dry, after using a towel to squeeze most of the water and it takes about 4-7 hours to completely dry! you did an amazing job, I have never been this invested in watching dog videos, but I binge watch yours when I have free time!
its really intriguing to see the similarities between dog coats like this and my own hair! people never realize how high maintenance it is to naturally have highly textured hair. sometimes washing it can take up to 40 minutes, and your arms and fingers get super tired and worn from working over your head that intensely. the same is true with debris getting stuck in the hair and not being able to come out easily, so it just gets washed (multiple times, mind you) with all the rest. and thats even before we talk about the hour or more just combing through it and styling it back into a basic non-fancy maintenance style just to stave off the hair's desire to mat. so much said was true, about not wanting to scrub the hair in the cords due to making them frizz up and tangle more, making a bigger headache for all involved or at worst a fairly impossible endeavor of a mess to fix, and things like how the hair behaves like a sponge and just soaks up whats applied to it, making soaping and degreasing a task. all in all, its heartwarming to see the recognition of having to employ entirely different techniques and methods to deal with a coat of this texture, as well as its correlation to humans like me with similar hair
Something to note I believe poodles and poodle mixes are the only dogs considered to be born with hair not fur. Meaning the dogs coat is probably more similar to curly hair then any sort of fur coat.
@lilbroomstick420 yes it's very much like hair and tangles like mad, miss one days grooming and you have a lot of extra work for the next week or more. 😂
@@dorothy7743 Thank you for thinking it's beautiful! A lot of us aren't necessarily fashionistas, but just trying to get by in life with what grows out of our heads.
I do see the appeal of a corded fur dog, the bounce of freshly groomed fur and a happy puppy who can finally see again. Saw her trying to eat the cords that were getting in her eyes, and the genius idea to put those hairs into a ponytail. Rosy definitely fits her name, as she's got a rosy state of mind. Thank you Vanessa for the video of this beautiful pup, but also for the education and knowledge that you impart on us with each of these videos over here on the second channel! 💜
Gosh! Rosie is STUNNING! Such a gorgeous dog, and clearly well taken care of. Thank you for showing us how to properly bathe a corded dog. I’ve always wondered how they were dried. Good to know that they can be dried lol. Now I want to see you bathe and groom a Komondor 🤣
I can't help but wonder how corded dogs were maintained decades ago when working as livestock guardians, because it is hard to imagine busy farmers spending a whole day dilligently washing and squeezing their coats. They must've been walking mops of dust and twigs.
They would get dunked with the sheep once a year. They were outside working dogs, and a healthy corded coat is selfcleaning except for large burrs that would be hand picked out by the shepherd. Grew up with a puli right across from us, they are incredibly inteligent, and he never went indoors, not even in the coldest winter - he had a job protecting the house and herding us kids after school 😂 - he was a happy and helathy dog living to 15 yrs. Forgot to mention he loved "sandbathing" so I think that is partly what helped keep his coat healthy. When we would go down to the sandy riverside , he enjoyed rolling around in it, the a big shake getting it all over us😊
No dogs used to be washed and groomed in the past. The difference is that they now live inside the house with us and that most are no longer working dogs. We are the ones that don't want a dirty, stinky dog rolling around on our couches and beds and hanging out in our living rooms.
Rosie is such a sweet-tempered and patient girl! She is quite a contrast to some of the cranky dogs you've had lately. She turned out beautiful; nice job.
Omg, the way Rosie first looked at the camera when she was all done - my heart melted! You could tell she was feeling like the prettiest girl. Thanks for another amazing video, Vanessa!
Love her top knot. Those cords must be a heavy load to carry around. You obviously know and love dogs, you are a blessing to the clients and the fur babies.
My mom died 2 weeks and 1 day ago. She was just getting into the Puli breeding program and left behind seven dogs with her partner. Her death was very unexpected for all of us and she died way too young. This is bittersweet to watch for me. Thank you for sharing all of the information on the breed that you have. I know my mom would have loved that.

What a lovely dog! So sweet how she was listening to you and moving her head during the first seconds of footage of her on the table. It's great to see the techniques needed for corded dogs, reminds me of being a curly haired person but 1000 times even more work !
Good morning I came across your comment and I just had to reach out and say hi. Your perspective really caught my attention and I would love to get to know you better. Would you be interested in chatting sometime? Looking forward to hear back from you!
Despite all the benefits that corded fur has (and looking so darn cute), it is a LOT of maintenance that anyone looking to own a corded dog should be made fully aware of beforehand. You're either going to need a _really_ good groomer on the budget, or a _really_ big bathtub and a lot of time on your hands to groom them yourselves. Don't let the comfort of your dog's cords become a burden!
Yep. Or you can just get them shaved down every 3 or 4 months. I think that's the best way. Those cords must be so heavy and without regular baths, they attract a lot of dirt.
@@mygirldarbyI don't think you're allowed to shave these dogs, their hair doesn't grow back the same when you do. I thought that they needed natural, never shaven hair to cord well. Best is probably, prevent her from getting dirty, brush out the uncorded bits regularly and keep up with the cords before they matt up.
@@lafunk1978 Both heat and cold protection, weather protection, skin breathability, and significantly decreased shedding and less often needed bathing (though granted, those last two are more for the owner than the dog, and see original comment for caveat on the last one).
Wasn't she so well behaved? With such a high maintenance coat she must be use to a lot of handling and fussing, but it doesn't mean she would always tolerate it. What a gem she is. It was so interesting to watch...but makes me grateful for my greyhound wash - dry - brush LOL

As a hairstylist, I wish that doing dreads were as easy as this. We have separate them and re-twist them…..that’s a lot of palm rolling🙃. She was a very good pup!
Puli's need that, too. With a Puli/poodle/komondor coats, you have to grab the cords, and pull each one apart down to the skin as they grow out. You have to twist them and separate them into 1" sections as they grow in, their hair does "naturally cord" but you have to set the size and spacing as it grows or else you'll end up with monster sized ones that pull and bruise the dogs skin, or tiny ones that rip out easily and then the dog has nasty bald spots and broken ends. She showed the maintenance of them here, but setting them as they first grow in is a big job that takes MONTHS
I was just wondering if you could retwist their locs! I retwisted and rope twisted my son's locs yesterday. It was a process! I would be so tempted to palm roll this dog's hair!!
Rosy is the goodest girl! 12/10, would snuggle and give her all the treats 😍 I've been eagerly waiting for a corded coat to grace this channel and I was not disappointed. What a fascinating texture!
As some with locs this video is so satisfying to watch lol. Its like im watching my hair care routine just on a different species. Literally down to it taking 3 hours in total to do lol
She is so gorgeous. Her family takes great care of her and her coat for it to be that nice. She looks so much cleaner and lighter after her groom. Definitely was weighed down by oils and dirt/dust ❤ Great job, can't wait for the next video. Thank you for making this video on channel 2 so it could be longer 🎉
This gave me flashbacks to being the only thick curly haired girl at the salon, and the energy I got from the hairstylist: prepared for battle. Focused, very little niceties, pushing my head around where they were more gentle with my friends, me looking around trying to figure out what was happening bc they didn't have time to explain it to me, & do it at the same time, LOL. I'm feel you, Rasta Rosie
I also own a corded dog!! She’s a different breed, but the work we put into her coat is just the same. I must say that once their coat is properly corded, it’s very easy (but very time consuming) to maintain healthy, plus it looks so cool!! You did such a good job with Rosie
Scented products-1) I’m allergic but 2) on the rare cases when I took my standard dachshund to the groomer and they put perfume on him, he would just find the worst possible thing to roll in! And then I’d have to bathe him again. So no scent for him! Unless it’s rotted lizard, his favorite!
When you consider the sensitivity of their noses, spraying a dog with what we consider scented is absolutely horrible. There’s a difference between carcasses (organic, for scent masking) and a horrible chemical cocktail.
@@Solitude11-11 i will discretely add a comment that it distresses me that they are sprayed. Most fragrances have known carcinogens, with more being known by the year.
Rosy's hair looks just like mine. Dark brown/black throughout with naturally brown tips (I think the sun bleached mine) and grey wiry hairs that won't really integrate with the loc.
She's so pretty, what a lovely dog. I would never be able to keep a corded dog myself, but they seem like such unique characters. Well-loved locs always look so nice!
as someone with adhd, you're the equivalent of a real life, miracle working superhero like i truly cannot even imagine washing one strand this many times....heck not even my own hair....you're just the coolest
@@jadedavis822 i was gonna make fun of you but maybe you're genuinely asking so i will explain because it's important; adhd causes executive dysfunction and an inability to undertake tasks that use up too much time or effort whether that be mental or physical and it can be extremely difficult, impossible even, for an adhd patient to finish or start a task that a neurotypical person finds easy and quick. this is all due to a disruption in the ascending reticular formation in the brain and most likely a dopamine deficit and dopamine and the ARF both make up a large portion of a person's ability to stay focused and exercise self discipline, hence the inability to finish any time consuming task

I’m glad people get to see this because it really communicates why Pulis are such a captivating breed. Their intelligence really comes across and dare I say it because that’s the right word, their charm. The dog almost seems to understand exactly what the groomer is asking because they really were bred for their brains.

Her scrunchy ponytail is adorable 💕
While I'd never want a corded dog for myself, I can admire how good they can look and the sheer dedication of the owners to look after one.

Ok, I have a REALLY important question…
How do you keep your hands nice?!
Vanessa has very beautiful hands, and always nicely manicured--like a hand model.

Her face is beautiful. It's nice to see a dog's eyes. She looks better! Good job, you're so patient.
So cute she had a scrunchie in her fur. Great job, Vanessa.
its really intriguing to see the similarities between dog coats like this and my own hair! people never realize how high maintenance it is to naturally have highly textured hair. sometimes washing it can take up to 40 minutes, and your arms and fingers get super tired and worn from working over your head that intensely. the same is true with debris getting stuck in the hair and not being able to come out easily, so it just gets washed (multiple times, mind you) with all the rest. and thats even before we talk about the hour or more just combing through it and styling it back into a basic non-fancy maintenance style just to stave off the hair's desire to mat.
so much said was true, about not wanting to scrub the hair in the cords due to making them frizz up and tangle more, making a bigger headache for all involved or at worst a fairly impossible endeavor of a mess to fix, and things like how the hair behaves like a sponge and just soaks up whats applied to it, making soaping and degreasing a task. all in all, its heartwarming to see the recognition of having to employ entirely different techniques and methods to deal with a coat of this texture, as well as its correlation to humans like me with similar hair
Thank you for that info. I didn't realize the effort and time involved in keeping your textured hair so beautiful.
I truly appreciate not only the amount of work, but the sheer artistry required to do the cool styles I've seen. ❤

I can't help but wonder how corded dogs were maintained decades ago when working as livestock guardians, because it is hard to imagine busy farmers spending a whole day dilligently washing and squeezing their coats. They must've been walking mops of dust and twigs.
They didn't.
I've always wondered this too. It kind of seems to defeat the purpose of having a dog that is mostly self-sufficient.
When we would go down to the sandy riverside , he enjoyed rolling around in it, the a big shake getting it all over us😊
@eszterkun9638 my sheltie/collie mix used to herds us kids.😂😂 I've never had the pleasure of meeting a puli.

What benifits?
@@lafunk1978 Both heat and cold protection, weather protection, skin breathability, and significantly decreased shedding and less often needed bathing (though granted, those last two are more for the owner than the dog, and see original comment for caveat on the last one).

As a hairstylist, I wish that doing dreads were as easy as this. We have separate them and re-twist them…..that’s a lot of palm rolling🙃. She was a very good pup!
I think our techniques could help a pup like this...
It depends on the texture of person
12/10, would snuggle and give her all the treats 😍

I think that Rosie is quite wonderful with her gentle acceptance of the long time it had to take to get her so clean.
I also own a corded dog!! She’s a different breed, but the work we put into her coat is just the same. I must say that once their coat is properly corded, it’s very easy (but very time consuming) to maintain healthy, plus it looks so cool!! You did such a good job with Rosie
How adorable Rosie looked, after, your groom. I loved the Kupie Doll.
She was so obedient during the bath. Very sweet. You showed alot of patience, despite the time it took to groom the dog
My chihuahua favored dead frog. 😂
Fox poo here in the UK. 🤢

What does you having adhd have to do with anything 🧐
adhd too couldn't even imagine have enough trouble with cats let alone a corded dog 😢
