  • In this video we demonstrate how to change the oil on a 2007-2008 Yamaha R1. It is relatively similar for other generations and models years as well.
    The reason we use Rotella T6 is because it is one of the most widely available full synthetic oils that is Jaso MA approved, and that means that it is okay to be used in wet clutch systems such as the Yamaha R1.
    Tools needed are a 4MM allen wrench, 17MM wrench or ratchet, and 3.1 quarts of oil.
    Please subscribe as it helps our channel and let us know in the comments if there is something you want to see in the future!

      Thank you very much! We love feedback, especially when its positive.
      Anything in particular you would be interested in seeing on 07-08 R1? We are about to set the bike up for intermediate track riding before october 16.

      Thought about you should male a video about changing the clutch plates on a R1 07-08. There are a log of bad videos out there. I Think People’s are very interested in that.

    To avoid the filter oil on the headers, take that off while bike is on kickstand…Yamaha designed it that way

    New Zealand here bro. I have an identical bike. Mine is black with gold forks and gold levers. Im the 3rd owner. Bike has 19,000 miles on the clock and is very tidy. I paid $750 for some Two brothers slip on's and sounds great. How many miles should I do until the next oil change?. Once again .. A great video

      If your only street riding I change my oil every 3-5000 miles when running full synthetics. Track riding or if your riding only consists of spirited constant hard throttle then drop it down.

    Will carb cleaner spray work instead of break cleaner

    • @motomigos
      @motomigos  2 роки тому

      Carb cleaner will be better than nothing but carb cleaner can leave an oily residue. Carb cleaner will "most likely" be better than doing nothing at all but do your best to not leave an oily residue behind.

    All the information I’ve read is saying 4.2 qt. So is it 3 or 4qts?

    • @motomigos
      @motomigos  2 роки тому +1

      It is 3.1 litres not quarts. That was our screw up because we are used to measuring in quarts for American vs Japanese.

    Hey, I’m looking at a 2007 r1 with 18k miles, everything is stock, he asking for 6k. He said sometimes the neutral light goes out. Do you think this would be a good buy & any problems with these past 18k miles? Thank you

    • @motomigos
      @motomigos  2 роки тому

      I would check a few things like plastics to see if they have been replaced and cases. Beyond the abnormal the 07 08 r1 are great motorcycles. 18k miles doesn't scare me. The R1 in the video gets tracked often and driven cross country yearly on trips and has close to 25k miles. Check the maintenance on it and see if the owner seemed like he cared about taking care of his things.

    • @johanneskoskela384
      @johanneskoskela384 2 роки тому +1

      18k is nothing on R1 if it's maintained properly. I have 08 with 50k miles, everything works fine. Listen for timing chain. Mine makes some noice, but i asked about it from certified Yamaha shop and they said no reason to open it up yet. And that many 25k driven have worse Condition chain.

    • @Bbrown0329
      @Bbrown0329 2 місяці тому

      I just bought an 07 R1 and that was what was wrong with it. The automatic timing chain adjuster failed on it. Currently waiting for the manual adjuster to arrive so I can put it all back together. Going ahead and doing a tune up and oil change while I have the engine apart.

    Why did you use 5w-40 instead of the recommended 10w-40?

    • @motomigos
      @motomigos  2 роки тому +1

      That's because Rotella T6 only comes in 5w and 15w that is Jaso-Ma/Ma2 approved. They dont make a 10w jaso ma approved oil

    Did you really use Rotella? I know you can use a lot of different oils but what I was taught at school is it needs to be a Jaso approved engine oil for your bike. It has the right detergent and additives for motorcycle engines. Hopefully it didn’t do any damage. And no oil is not oil there are different oils for different engines.

    • @motomigos
      @motomigos  Рік тому +1

      Please read the description of the video or watch the video that's pinned in the comments. Rotella T6 is Jaso/MA and MA2 approved. Google would be a good friend in this case and could easily help you find a list of jaso approved oils ready to be put in your motorcycle with a wet clutch system. Also if you have a dry clutch requirements change.

    • @motomigos
      @motomigos  Рік тому +2

      The bike is a pure track bike and has bolts that are from a kit. All they do is hold plastic on. If you are willing to pay for oem bolts and fairings we will be happy keep the bike maintained to your standards. Otherwise we don't care what it looks like on the track.
