    I truly respect you for taking your time with the securement and tarping aspect of your load good sir. I'm a flatbed driver myself(2 years) and I love my career. It's not for everyone and one thing I hate worst than a liar is a lazy flatbed driver. They are the ones with load claims and shifted loads on the shoulder of our already dangerous highways. I salute you good sir being prior military as I have served as well. Stay safe.

    Here's a 2 year video of yours Dan. I have to credit you with the time you take to explain your load, the securement, whether it's a Baby sitting job or a Not bad Load. Your a credit to all of us out on the Hiway and No. One instructor. Of course, it's another look at your Ol Pete. which I liked the looks of. Keep it safe out there and I always look twice when I see a similar rig as yours. It Might be yours to say hello and a thanks to all these great videos.

    Do like I use to do sneak them up the road without a tarp, I always love it when the load sat outside in the weather and it would say on the bill tarp load, lazy dispatchers never wanted to take the time to ask they would just put on the bill must be tarped.

    Couple things you can use for padding on this type of load is furniture pads (bout the best) or (believe it or not) Pampers. Yip ,,, disposable diapers. One more point. On a load of uniform sized beams movement may not be a huge problem. But if you're hauling structural steel ordered for a particular building site. With all different sizes, large to small. You will have some good sized beams. Any real steel hauler will know this. But each end of a lift, not each end of total load. The chain WILL loosen no matter how tight you get it to start. An old steel haulers trick. On each end of a lift, tighten the binder as tight as possible. THEN go to other side and apply a SECOND binder to the same chain. Tighten this one as tight as possible and I GUARANTEE the chain WILL stay tight.

    Good stuff Dan! I was wondering why you had those 2" straps on the outside but then you mentioned they were there to keep the seems down. Now thats paying attention to the details because i was definitely gonna ask you about that. I was looking at it (brain fart) but it didn't register....lol. Good job Dan👍

    I did flatbed for a long time. Roll up your pant legs on your coveralls while you are up on top of the load working. You do not want to trip and fall off that load. You will thank me later.

    just save old tarps and use them to cover rough edges.....ran flatbed 20 years..... hauled lots of steel and never ripped a tarp..... just throw old doubled tarps over ends of beams and cover with good tarps.....apply bungies.... fix log book.....and....run....btw, I would put cardboard or pieces of old mudflaps or something under those straps up top in the middle

    Have them spin the bundles so the ugly is in the middle and the tarps bridge.

    Why do you even need to tarp steelbeems. They are treated with paint , they wont melt, rot, get dinged up, bend or break.they are steel I beems!!, They may get wet if it rains thats about all. I did very little flat bed in my 15 years as trucker and everytime i
    did pulla flatbed was told to tarp loads thats made no sense tarping..I once picked up a load of steel from a company that stored all their steel outside. i was told i need to tarp the load.I signed the bill and just drove out of their yard. When i got to the receiver they unloaded it in their yard and piled it outside along with all the other rusted colored steel..Make no sense at all...Great video BTW.thnkx.

    What's he gonna use for padding ... This should be interesting ... Should use about 4 or 5 furniture pads ,,, DOUBLED !!!

  • @vargo0515
    @vargo0515 4 роки тому +3

    STEEL SHOULD BE CHAINED AND AT LEAST ONE CHAIN CROSSWAYS IN FRONT OF LOAD AND CHAIN IN BACK PULLING IT TOGETHER! THEN AT LEAST TWO CHAINS ACROSS THEN TARP AND USE STRAPS OUTSIDE HELPING HOLD TARP YOU CAN NEVER OVER SECURE STEEL LOADS BECAUSE IF YOU DONT !!?? 😮😲😟😵😳😰A NIGHTMARE WILL DEVELOP!! NEED I SAY MORE???😵😰😭😬

      True....I respect his work on his videos..but on this one no so much....no bulkhead...so x chain it on front..or at least 2strapsfirst 4 feet...can't go wrong with oversecurement on steel beams....

    I hear FB Drivers say steal on steal? Is that not always the case as I see you use straps and not chains.....advise.....thanks Jay....or it depends on the company policies etc.

    • @SuperTruckerdan
      @SuperTruckerdan  7 років тому +1

      +Ana Marie Winger these were painted steel structural beams the ones like they use for a large metal buildings I didn't use chains because it would damage paint/finish on the beams
      Chains or straps on unfinished steel is your preference or company policy

      +Ana Marie Winger I haven't heard much bad about the three you mentioned. As a new driver I would check to see which company offers the most training.

      It's not s mater of how long it's on the truck. It's how much does it pay. That load paid $900 for 300 miles. $900 for about 8hrs of work.
